In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, “Temple of the Horseman” follows “Belly of the Beast.” Meet Mitsuhide near Shoryuji, then infiltrate Honnoji Temple as Naoe and confront Oda Nobunaga. The mission continues into “Lightning and Thunder” after the ending scenes.
Before you start
PowerPyx lists this as a Yamashiro main mission in The Onryo > Oda Nobunaga, available after “Belly of the Beast.” That guide reports a recommended level of 12 and a reward of 1,000 XP; treat both figures as guide-reported values, not guarantees for every game version or player. PowerPyx’s walkthrough
Meet Mitsuhide and begin the operation
- Travel south from Toji Temple toward Shoryuji and speak with Mitsuhide.
- Choose “Let’s go” to proceed to Honnoji Temple. If you choose “I’m not ready,” Neoseeker reports that Mitsuhide remains available so you can return later. Neoseeker’s walkthrough
Infiltrate Honnoji Temple
Naoe’s target is in the large building at the northern end of the compound. The walkthroughs describe different approaches, and neither establishes a single mandatory route. Avoid treating the guarded main entrance as your only way in; choose a quiet approach that fits your preferred level of risk.
Outer wall and well route
PowerPyx describes using the outer wall, a well and nearby bushes to move through the compound. Whistling can draw individual guards away, giving you an opportunity to pass or deal with them separately. PowerPyx’s route notes

Rooftops and crawlspace route
Gamer Guides describes moving across rooftops and using a crawlspace beneath stairs to reach the area near Nobunaga. This offers a different way to approach the target building; use the path you find most manageable rather than assuming either guide’s route is required. Gamer Guides’ route notes
Fight Oda Nobunaga
The mission ends the infiltration with a phase-based encounter. PowerPyx describes three phases, while Gamer Guides warns that Nobunaga’s unstoppable attacks come more frequently later in the fight and that burning debris can threaten you. Their tactical advice is to dodge these attacks and use the openings that follow; watch his timing rather than relying on a fixed attack pattern. PowerPyx’s boss notes · Gamer Guides’ boss notes

After the fight and story scenes, the mission concludes and “Lightning and Thunder” begins. At the hideout, the dialogue offers a choice between finding Junjiro and going to Mitsuhide. Game8 reports that choosing Junjiro leads Naoe to find him at the start of the next quest. The available walkthroughs do not establish a materially different outcome for choosing Mitsuhide, so make the choice based on whom you want Naoe to seek out first. Game8’s choice guide
