Yes—with an important qualification. In a European year-to-date chart covering PC and console sales through July 28, 2025, Assassin’s Creed Shadows ranked second overall and was the top new release of the year. It did not lead the overall chart: EA Sports FC 25, released in 2024, ranked first.
How well did Assassin’s Creed Shadows sell in Europe?
The Game Business reported the European GSD-based chart on August 18, 2025, with sales data through July 28. In that snapshot, Shadows was No. 2 among all games sold during 2025 and No. 1 among games released in 2025. EA Sports FC 25 led the overall ranking despite being a 2024 release. See the European chart and its reporting scope.
That makes “one of 2025’s best-selling games so far” a fair description of the chart’s result. Calling it the best-selling game of 2025 would not be: it ranked second overall, and the chart was a midyear snapshot of major European markets, not a final worldwide ranking.
What do the full-year French figures show?
A separate SELL chart, based on GSD data for France’s 2025 console market, puts Shadows fourth by combined physical-and-digital sales value and fifth by units. SELL reported sales value of €27,164,380 and 369,423 units. The chart excludes bundles and does not include Nintendo’s or Kepler Interactive’s digital sales. See SELL’s French market report.

These figures are not a continuation of the European ranking above: they cover France rather than major European markets, the full year rather than data through July 28, and consoles rather than PC and console. They also present both value and units, while the midyear result cited above is a rank. The two charts therefore answer different questions and should not be combined into a single ranking.
What Ubisoft said about the game’s performance
In its May 14, 2025 full-year results, Ubisoft said Shadows had delivered a solid performance and was clearly ahead of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The company also said the game had the franchise’s second-highest day-one sales revenue, behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. These are Ubisoft’s relative performance and revenue claims—not a disclosure of the game’s unit sales. Read Ubisoft’s FY2024–25 results.

Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot called the launch “a defining moment.” That statement conveys the company’s view of the launch, but it does not add a sales total.

The cited figures and Ubisoft statements do not establish Shadows’s worldwide 2025 unit total or a definitive global rank. The European chart, French console chart, and Ubisoft’s day-one revenue comparison use different markets or measures. None should be treated as a global unit-sales figure.
