Ubisoft announced the update on June 24, 2025, with a planned release time of June 25 at 14:00 UTC / 10:00 EDT / 7:00 PT. Ubisoft’s June 25 announcement confirmed that it had released that day. Ubisoft’s 1.0.6 release notes contain the original schedule and change list.
How large was the 1.0.6 download?

What did update 1.0.6 add?
Nightmare difficulty
The patch introduced Nightmare, a higher difficulty aimed at experienced players, affecting both combat and stealth. Ubisoft’s notes also specify distinct kunai rules: on Hard, kunai are found or recovered less often; on Nightmare, used kunai cannot be recovered. The Tools Master gear perk consumes kunai from Naoe’s inventory on both Hard and Nightmare.

Free Critical Role quest and ally
“A Critical Encounter” is a free Critical Role collaboration quest that adds recruitable ally Rufino and a trophy or achievement. Ubisoft’s press release identifies Robbie Daymond as Rufino’s voice actor. The notes also mention a separate Critical Role-inspired weapon pack sold through the in-game store; it is distinct from the free quest content. Ubisoft’s available announcement does not establish the quest’s unlock conditions, so consult the in-game quest log rather than relying on an assumed start requirement. Ubisoft’s June 25 announcement covers the collaboration.
PC frame-rate option
Ubisoft said the update added an option intended to help PC players with limited GPU configurations experience better frame-rate conditions. That is Ubisoft’s stated purpose, not a published benchmark or a guarantee of improved performance on every PC.

What else changed or was fixed?
Update 1.0.6 restored multi-select in shops and vendors. Its fixes covered quest progression, character switching, mastery-point awards and refunds, ally-training requirements, and several stuck or broken activities. Named quest and activity issues included “Diary of Lady Rokkaku,” “Lost Honor,” the “Heads Will Roll” anomaly, the Tournament after death, the Oni Drawing, and fast travel from a stuck Red Zone.
Ubisoft also listed visual and audio fixes, including gear visibility or clipping, NPC horses that looked identical, Oni armor movement physics, and footsteps stopping after opening the map while moving. Is update 1.0.6 still the latest update?
No. Ubisoft’s June 16, 2026 article identifies a later release as Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ final update, so 1.0.6 is not the current patch. Ubisoft lists the game for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC through Ubisoft Store, Epic Games Store and Steam, and Apple-silicon Macs through the Mac App Store, as well as Ubisoft+.
