Then open the pause menu and choose Play Together to invite a friend or use Play Co-Op Now for matchmaking. If those checks do not help, follow Ubisoft’s connectivity guidance and use Xbox support if the console reports a wider multiplayer or NAT problem.
Check the co-op requirements first
Ubisoft says co-op becomes available after Sequence 3. If the co-op option is missing, make sure the relevant game content is installed as well. See Ubisoft’s co-op session instructions.
- Progress: Both players should have reached Sequence 3.
- Internet: Both consoles need internet access.
- Console multiplayer access: Ubisoft’s instructions, updated 2024-10-08, list an Xbox Game Pass subscription for console as a requirement. Plan names and eligibility may change and can vary by region, so check the current Xbox terms for your account and location.
- Friendship: Add the other player to your Xbox friends list.
- Installed content: If co-op is unavailable in the menus, confirm the relevant content is installed.
Start a session using the right option
- Pause Assassin’s Creed Unity.
- Select Play Together.
- Choose Invite Players to play with someone on your friends list, or choose Play Co-Op Now to use matchmaking.
If an invitation fails but matchmaking works, or vice versa, note which route is affected: the distinction helps narrow down whether the problem is specific to joining a friend or to matchmaking.
Follow Ubisoft’s connectivity guidance if the game cannot connect
For problems connecting to Unity’s online services, Ubisoft directs players to its Assassin’s Creed Unity connectivity troubleshooting page and then to Ubisoft support if the issue persists. The available game-specific guidance does not establish a particular Xbox-only fix or provide port numbers, so avoid treating port forwarding as a confirmed solution.

Use Xbox support for console-wide multiplayer or NAT errors
If Xbox itself reports a multiplayer connection, NAT, or network error—or other games also cannot use online multiplayer—check Xbox’s platform guidance for the error shown:
These are Xbox platform support pages, not proof of a Unity-specific cause. If only Unity co-op fails while other Xbox multiplayer features work, Ubisoft’s game-specific connectivity route is the more relevant next step.

Does Unity co-op still exist on Xbox?
Ubisoft’s current Assassin’s Creed Unity page describes online co-op for up to three friends, including heists and co-op missions. Ubisoft also announced a 60 FPS update for Xbox Series X|S in March 2026 in its console frame-rate update announcement. Neither announcement is a live service-status notice, so neither confirms whether an individual session or service is available during a particular connection failure.

The official sources cited here do not establish a current Ubisoft or Xbox outage, nor do they publish a Unity co-op failure rate or uptime figure. Check current official service status if the setup requirements are met and both Ubisoft’s and Xbox’s relevant troubleshooting routes fail. Do not assume an outage—or that buying another copy, changing accessories, or subscribing will fix the connection—without evidence of the specific cause.
