A purported ASUS GeForce RTX 5080 retail listing reported before CES 2025 showed a price of €1,699.95 and mentioned DLSS 4. Neither detail was confirmed at the time. NVIDIA later announced an RTX 5080 starting price of $999 for its January 30, 2025 launch, and officially detailed DLSS 4—including which features are limited to RTX 50-series cards.
What the January 3 listing reportedly showed
HotHardware reported on January 3, 2025, before NVIDIA announced the RTX 50 series, that a leaker had shared a fuzzy image of a purported ASUS RTX 5080 listing at an unspecified European retailer. The image showed €1,699.95. HotHardware cautioned that it was a single-vendor image and might not be genuine; the report did not establish the retailer, exact ASUS model, or a completed sale.
The report also attributed an estimate of about $1,349, excluding VAT or tax, to the leaker. That was speculation, not ASUS’s official U.S. price. European and U.S. prices do not translate directly because taxes and regional pricing differ, and board-partner cards may carry premiums.
How the hinted price compared with NVIDIA’s launch price
| Figure | What it referred to |
|---|---|
| €1,699.95 | Price visible in the purported listing image described by HotHardware on January 3, 2025; unverified and from an unspecified European retailer. |
| About $1,349, excluding VAT or tax | Estimate HotHardware attributed to the leaker on January 3, 2025; not an official U.S. price. |
| $999 starting price | NVIDIA’s official RTX 5080 launch price, announced January 6, 2025, for availability beginning January 30, 2025. |
NVIDIA’s $999 figure was the announced starting price at launch, not a guarantee that every ASUS model—or every later retail listing—would sell for that amount. ASUS announced TUF Gaming and Prime RTX 5080 variants on January 7. Its announcement described the Prime model as a 2.5-slot design, but did not authenticate the earlier listing image.

What “DLSS 4” meant—and what NVIDIA later announced
In HotHardware’s January 3 report, the DLSS 4 reference was only a clue in the purported listing. NVIDIA had not yet officially detailed DLSS 4’s features. That changed with the RTX 50 announcement and NVIDIA’s January 30 GeForce News article.
Multi Frame Generation is RTX 50-specific
NVIDIA announced DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation for RTX 50-series GPUs. The company’s January 2025 launch announcement said: “DLSS 4 will be supported on GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs in over 75 games and applications the day of launch.” That was NVIDIA’s launch-day support count, not an independent test or a claim that every game supports every DLSS feature.

Other DLSS 4 upgrades also apply to older RTX cards
DLSS 4 is not wholly exclusive to RTX 50. In its January 30, 2025 article, NVIDIA said: “All GeForce RTX gamers benefit from the upgrade to DLSS 4, with DLSS Super Resolution, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, and DLAA now using our new DLSS 4 transformer AI model.” NVIDIA also described the newer frame-generation model as available on RTX 40 and RTX 50, while Multi Frame Generation is specific to RTX 50. Feature availability still depends on game support.

The early image is best understood as an unverified price signal, not a confirmed ASUS MSRP or evidence of the card’s current value. The later official announcements establish the launch starting price, ASUS’s TUF Gaming and Prime product lines, and NVIDIA’s DLSS 4 feature distinctions; they do not prove that the image showed a real ASUS listing.

For a purchase decision, compare the exact board-partner model and local street price at the time of purchase, then check cooler design and card dimensions against your case. Confirm that the games you play support the specific DLSS feature you want. ASUS’s TUF RTX 5080 OC product page identifies that model as a 16GB GDDR7 card, but the early image did not establish that it was the TUF OC variant. Current prices, stock, and present-day game support are not established by the dated announcements cited here.
