ASUS introduced the 2025 TUF Gaming laptop refresh at CES 2025, led by the TUF Gaming A18—the first 18-inch model in the TUF laptop family. The lineup also includes refreshed 16-inch A16 and F16 models. The important buying detail is that these are product families, not single fixed configurations: processor, GPU, display, memory, storage, price, and availability vary by model number and region.
The TUF Gaming A18 is the headline addition
The A18 gives ASUS’s more affordable-to-upper-midrange TUF Gaming range a larger desktop-replacement option without moving into the company’s premium ROG branding. ASUS lists the A18 family under model designation FA808.

Its highest listed display configuration is an 18-inch, 2560×1600 panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 240Hz refresh rate. ASUS’s regional product guide also lists the higher-end panel with 100% DCI-P3 coverage and 500-nit brightness. Those display specifications apply to the relevant configuration, not automatically to every A18.
Other announced or listed maximums include an AMD Ryzen 7 260 processor, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, up to 32GB of DDR5-5600 memory, and up to 2TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage. ASUS US listings specify Windows 11 Home. The family is also associated with a 90Wh battery.

What 18 inches changes
The larger chassis and screen are most useful if the laptop will spend much of its time on a desk. An 18-inch 16:10 display provides more physical workspace for games, editing timelines, spreadsheets, and side-by-side windows than a typical 16-inch laptop.
It is not automatically the better choice, however. The A18 will take more room in a bag and on a desk, and comparable configurations may cost more. A 240Hz panel can show up to 240 refreshes per second, but it only matters fully when the game produces very high frame rates. Demanding AAA games may not approach that rate at 2560×1600.
The RTX 5070 designation also needs care: this is a mobile GPU whose performance depends substantially on its configured power limit, cooling, and the rest of the SKU. The screen size does not make it equivalent to a desktop RTX 5070.
A16 and F16 complete the refresh
The A18 is not replacing the existing 16-inch choices. ASUS also refreshed the AMD-based A16 and Intel-based F16.

TUF Gaming A16
The A16 is the more portable AMD alternative. ASUS’s US technical listings include Ryzen processors and RTX 5050, RTX 5060, and RTX 5070 configurations, along with up to 32GB of DDR5-5600 memory and up to 2TB of PCIe 4.0 storage. Its listed display ceiling is 2560×1600 at 165Hz.

It may also offer better value, although the exact GPU, panel, and memory configuration must be checked before comparing prices.

TUF Gaming F16
The F16 uses Intel processors and is listed with configurations reaching an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX and an RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. It shares the 16-inch, 2560×1600, 165Hz display ceiling and can be configured with up to 32GB of memory and 2TB of PCIe 4.0 storage.
Thunderbolt 4 is specifically associated with the F16 in the launch material, which may make it the better choice for buyers with compatible docks, displays, or high-speed peripherals. The Core Ultra 9 275HX should not be assumed to outperform the Ryzen 7 260 in every situation: power limits, cooling, application, and GPU pairing determine real results.

Shared design and upgrade features
ASUS describes the 2025 TUF Gaming designs as using second-generation Arc Flow Fans, full-width heatsinks, and expanded venting. The larger chassis may provide engineers with more physical room, but there is not enough independent testing in the announcement to claim a guaranteed thermal or acoustic advantage for the A18.
Common lineup features reported in the launch material include:
- MIL-STD-810H durability testing or compliance claims
- A 180-degree hinge
- RGB-backlit keyboards
- Two SO-DIMM memory slots
- Two PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD slots
- USB-C charging support up to 100W
- Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3
- HDMI 2.1 and wired Ethernet
- Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res Audio, and AI noise cancellation
These features should still be verified against the exact regional SKU. A MIL-STD-810H claim does not mean that a laptop is indestructible, waterproof, or independently validated against every possible military test. Likewise, a 90Wh battery is substantial but does not establish a particular battery-life result; gaming performance is normally restricted when running unplugged.

Which TUF model should you consider?
Choose the A18 if:
- You want the largest built-in screen and plan to use the laptop mostly at a desk.
- You specifically want the option of an 18-inch, 2560×1600, 240Hz display.
- The larger footprint and possible price premium are acceptable.
- You value workspace and immersion more than easy transport.
Choose the A16 if:
- You want a more manageable 16-inch AMD laptop.
- A 165Hz, 2560×1600 display is sufficient.
- You want to compare lower-cost RTX 5050, 5060, and 5070 configurations.
- You want a better balance between portability and performance.
Choose the F16 if:
- You prefer Intel and the exact configuration has the processor and GPU combination you need.
- Thunderbolt 4 is important for your dock or peripheral setup.
- The F16 offers a better price, memory configuration, or display than comparable A16 models.
What the announcement does not establish
ASUS’s announcement and product pages establish the lineup and its listed configuration ceilings, not universal real-world performance. They do not by themselves establish battery endurance, fan noise, panel response time, sustained GPU power, thermal behavior, or independent gaming benchmarks across all models.
The key distinction is between a family specification and a retail unit. “Up to” 32GB of RAM, 2TB of storage, an RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, or a 240Hz panel describes what may be available in the range—not what every A18, A16, or F16 includes.
