What the Reddit post says happened
The account comes from a Reddit user, not an ASUS press release, published warranty ruling or stated change to ASUS’s standard RMA policy. In the post’s searchable excerpt, the customer wrote: “Some of you might remember my post from a few weeks ago about ASUS sending me a black TUF RTX 5080 as a replacement for my white ROG Strix RTX 4080 SUPER OC.”

That sentence establishes the first two cards in the exchange: a white ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4080 SUPER OC was the original card, and a black ASUS TUF RTX 5080 was the first replacement. The customer later reported that ASUS approved another RTX 5080, this time in white, after the request was escalated.
Why the second swap mattered
The unusual part is not simply that a newer-generation card replaced the original one. It is that the first replacement appears to have satisfied the RTX 5080 product tier while failing the customer’s stated aesthetic requirement. For an all-white build, a black cooler can be as visually conspicuous as a mismatched case panel, so the customer pursued a color-matched solution rather than keeping the first replacement.

The available account does not document why ASUS selected an RTX 5080 for the initial replacement, whether the original model was unavailable, or which warranty rule was applied. It also does not establish that ASUS normally upgrades every RTX 4080 SUPER RMA to an RTX 5080. Those details should not be inferred from one customer’s experience.

Those omissions matter because different RTX 5080 board designs can vary in cooler size, connector placement and power requirements. Anyone trying to identify the exact replacement should wait for the customer’s invoice, shipment record or a clear photograph of the model label rather than assuming that every white ASUS RTX 5080 is the same product.

What this means for other RMA customers
Do not treat color as an automatic warranty entitlement
A warranty generally concerns repair or replacement of the failed product, while this account shows one customer successfully arguing for a cosmetic match. The post does not prove that color matching is guaranteed. If the exterior matters to your build, state that requirement before accepting a proposed replacement and ask support to record it in the case.

Ask for the full model name, not only the GPU generation. “RTX 5080” identifies the processor class but not the board partner, cooler, finish or physical layout. Confirm whether the replacement is new, refurbished or equivalent under the applicable warranty terms, and ask how the original card must be returned.

Check fit and power before shipping
Compare the approved model’s published dimensions, slot thickness, power connector and recommended power supply with your case and existing cabling. The Reddit post supplies none of those specifications, so they must be verified against the exact ASUS listing or retailer page for the card being offered.

Search by the complete board model and finish rather than relying on a listing’s thumbnail. Confirm the exterior color from current product photographs, then verify dimensions, connector requirements, warranty coverage, return window, price and stock at the time of purchase. A white ASUS RTX 5080 listing is not necessarily the same card this customer received, because the final submodel was not identified.

Keep screenshots of the listing and your support correspondence. If a replacement arrives in the wrong color or as a different model, photograph the unopened packaging and contact the RMA team before installing it; that creates a clear record without assuming that a cosmetic mismatch alone guarantees another exchange.
