Its defining practical trade-off is straightforward: it offers a substantial set of video outputs and cooling features, but at 29.8cm long it needs a roomy case, two 8-pin power leads and careful used-card checks. ASUS announced the model in Japan on March 31, 2017, with sales scheduled to begin April 1, 2017, so this is a legacy GPU—not a current-generation recommendation based on modern game tests.
What this model is
This review concerns the exact 11GB OC SKU, model number ROG-STRIX-GTX1080TI-O11G-GAMING, based on NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. ASUS lists two clock profiles: Gaming mode and OC mode. The OC profile raises the listed core and memory clocks, but the actual boost frequency varies with operating conditions. ASUS’s specification sheet cautions that boost behavior depends on the system.
| Mode | Base clock | Boost clock | Memory clock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gaming | 1,569MHz | 1,683MHz | 11,010MHz |
| OC | 1,594MHz | 1,708MHz | 11,100MHz |
These are ASUS’s listed mode specifications in its 2017 announcement and datasheet, not guaranteed sustained clock speeds. [ASUS Japan announcement; ASUS specification sheet]
Core specifications and display outputs
The GTX 1080 Ti on this board has 3,584 CUDA cores, 11GB of GDDR5X memory and a 352-bit memory interface, according to ASUS’s 2017 datasheet. The card’s native outputs are useful if a build needs a mix of newer and older displays:

ASUS gives a maximum digital resolution of 7680 × 4320. That is an output specification, not a promise that contemporary games will run smoothly at that resolution; resolution support and playable performance are different questions. [ASUS specification sheet]
Will it fit and can your power supply connect?
Check the case and motherboard layout before buying. The card measures 29.8 × 13.4 × 5.25cm (11.73 × 5.28 × 2.07 inches), and its cooler occupies 2.5 slots. ASUS explicitly advises checking chassis and motherboard clearance. Allow for the full card length and thickness, as well as room for the power leads and any neighboring expansion cards.

Power input is through two 8-pin PCIe connectors. Confirm your power supply has both appropriate leads and sufficient capacity for your complete system. The cited ASUS datasheet specifies connector count but does not state a recommended PSU wattage for this exact model, so a wattage recommendation cannot be derived from it. [ASUS specification sheet]
Cooling and board features
ASUS equips the Strix with three Wing-Blade fans, an IP5X-certified dust-resistant fan design, MaxContact cooler technology, Aura Sync lighting and GPU Tweak II tuning controls. FanConnect II provides headers for two system fans, allowing the card to connect case fans to GPU temperature control.

ASUS describes fan-stop operation at low GPU temperatures. Its Japan launch announcement gives a stop threshold at or below 54°C, while its ROG article describes the fans stopping until temperature exceeds 55°C. Read these as an approximate 54–55°C manufacturer-described range, not a precisely established universal switching point. ASUS Japan also claimed 40% more heatsink fin area than a conventional two-slot cooler and 105% higher air pressure from the Wing-Blade design; these are vendor claims, not independent test results. What the historical review can—and cannot—tell you
Tom’s Hardware reviewed this model and notes that GPU Boost frequency changes with cooling, power limits and processor quality, so a benchmark chart represents one sample and test setup rather than a universal result. Its captured specification comparison lists a 275W power-target entry for the Strix. That historical figure is not a measured whole-system power draw and should not be used as one. The accessible review material does not establish current performance in modern games, present-day driver support, temperatures or noise under a disclosed contemporary test suite, or current value against alternative cards. For a present-day purchase decision, compare the card’s actual asking price and condition with tested alternatives available to you. Relevant factors include warranty or return terms, cooler condition, exact model and clock profile, case clearance, power connectors, display outputs, and independently measured performance in the games and settings you use. Launch-era specifications alone cannot establish whether a used listing is a good value.

The ASUS ROG Strix GTX 1080 Ti OC is a feature-rich, large-format 2017 card whose main buying questions are physical fit, two 8-pin power connections and the condition and price of the specific used example. Its 11GB memory, factory OC profile, fan-control features and range of display outputs are identifiable strengths on paper. The available historical documentation is not enough to recommend it over current alternatives or to claim how well it performs in today’s games; those calls require current comparative tests and a real listing price.
