ASUS ROG Strix XG32UCG: 4K at 160Hz or Full HD at 320Hz

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Yes—but as two alternative modes. The ASUS ROG Strix XG32UCG is a 31.5-inch Fast IPS monitor that runs 3840 × 2160 (4K UHD) at up to 160Hz, or switches to 1920 × 1080 (Full HD) at up to 320Hz. It does not run 4K at 320Hz. Choose the detailed UHD mode for image quality and slower-paced games, or the lower-resolution mode when maximum refresh rate matters for competitive play.

What the XG32UCG actually supports

ASUS lists a 31.5-inch, 16:9 Fast IPS panel with a native resolution of 3840 × 2160. Its dual-mode feature changes both resolution and the supported refresh-rate ceiling:

Mode Signal resolution Maximum refresh rate Best suited to
UHD mode 3840 × 2160 (4K) 160Hz Single-player games, productivity and detailed visuals
Fast mode 1920 × 1080 (Full HD) 320Hz Competitive games where motion clarity and frame rate take priority

ASUS’s UK product description calls this a switch from “stunning 4K @ 160 Hz” to “FHD @ 320 Hz” using a hotkey. That is marketing language, but it accurately describes the two choices: the monitor is not a simultaneous 4K/320Hz display.

How to choose between 4K 160Hz and Full HD 320Hz

Use 4K at 160Hz when detail is the priority

At 3840 × 2160, games, desktop text and high-resolution content remain sharp on the large 31.5-inch screen. Reaching 160 frames per second at 4K still requires a powerful graphics card and game-specific settings, so the practical result will vary by title, GPU and image-quality settings.

#1 Best Overall
ASUS ROG XG32UCG 32 Inch 4K 60Hz USB-C G-SYNC UHD Gaming Monitor
  • Dual Mode Display Technology: 32-inch 4K (3840 x 2160) gaming monitor with versatile dual mode (4K @ 160 Hz or FHD @ 320 Hz)
  • Ultra-Fast Response Time: ASUS Fast IPS technology enables a 0.3ms response time (minimum) for sharp gaming visuals with high frame rates
  • Advanced Motion Blur Reduction: ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB SYNC) technology enables ELMB together with variable refresh rate, eliminating ghosting and tearing for sharp gaming visuals with high frame rates
  • Superior Color Accuracy: 95% DCI-P3 color gamut with ASUS advanced gray-scale tracking technology ensures smoother color gradation delivered and uniformity
  • Convenient Settings Management: DisplayWidget Center enables easy monitor settings adjustments with a mouse

Use Full HD at 320Hz for competitive play

The 320Hz mode gives compatible games a much higher refresh ceiling, but it does so at one quarter of the UHD pixel count. Text and fine textures will look less detailed than in native 4K. It is a deliberate performance trade-off, not an enhancement of the 4K mode.

Switch modes for the game, not for a claimed combined maximum

Think of the XG32UCG as one monitor with two operating profiles. Select UHD when resolution matters and FHD when your system can deliver very high frame rates and you value the fastest refresh cycle.

Connections and equipment you need

ASUS lists three display inputs:

  • One HDMI 2.1 input
  • One DisplayPort 1.4 input
  • One USB-C input with DisplayPort Alt Mode and 15W USB-C Power Delivery

The source device, cable and selected mode must all support the signal you want. Check the graphics card or console output specification and the cable rating before assuming that 4K at 160Hz or FHD at 320Hz will be available. USB-C Power Delivery is limited to 15W, so this is not a full-power laptop-charging dock.

A practical Windows setup

  1. Connect the PC with DisplayPort, HDMI 2.1 or USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode, depending on the source and desired mode.
  2. Open Windows Settings → System → Display → Advanced display.
  3. Select the XG32UCG and choose the available refresh rate. Select 160Hz while using 3840 × 2160, or 320Hz after switching the monitor and operating system to 1920 × 1080.
  4. In the game, select the same resolution and enable a frame-rate limit that your hardware can sustain. If a refresh option is missing, recheck the cable, GPU output, monitor input and active resolution.

Variable refresh and motion features

The specification lists Adaptive-Sync, AMD FreeSync Premium, G-SYNC Compatible and VESA AdaptiveSync Display certifications for 160Hz/320Hz operation. These identify supported technologies and certification claims; they are not independent measurements of input lag, pixel response, overshoot or VRR stability.

ASUS also lists ELMB Sync, which is intended to combine strobing motion clarity with variable refresh in supported conditions. Whether it looks better depends on the game, frame-rate consistency and the settings you use.

  • Enhanced Visual Clarity: ASUS Smart Pixel technology enhances every detail, delivering sharper, more vibrant visuals, even at lower resolutions
  • Advanced Motion Blur Reduction: ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB SYNC) technology enables ELMB together with variable refresh rate, eliminating ghosting and tearing for sharp gaming visuals with high frame rates
  • Superior Color Accuracy: 95% DCI-P3 color gamut with ASUS advanced gray-scale tracking technology ensures smoother color gradation delivered and uniformity

Image, HDR and response specifications

ASUS publishes the following figures for the model:

  • 350 cd/m² typical brightness
  • 400 cd/m² peak HDR brightness
  • 1000:1 typical contrast ratio
  • 95% DCI-P3 color gamut
  • VESA DisplayHDR 400 and HDR10 support
  • 1ms GTG and 0.3ms minimum response-time figures on the US specification page

These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. DisplayHDR 400 and the listed brightness do not by themselves establish the kind of local-dimming contrast or highlight impact associated with more advanced HDR monitors. The response figures likewise should not be read as a guaranteed transition time in every overdrive setting or refresh mode.

A compatible VESA arm or wall mount can provide a different placement, but confirm the arm’s load rating, mounting hardware and clearance for this monitor.

Power and regional pricing notes

ASUS lists power-on consumption below 30W on its US specification page. The page does not define a particular real-world test setup, so treat that as a manufacturer figure rather than a universal measured draw.

At the time of the cited page checks, ASUS displayed a US store price of $599 and the UK page showed £449, with £519 also displayed. Those are regional page snapshots that may include promotions or different purchase conditions; they are not a durable worldwide price. Check the live ASUS or authorized-retailer listing in your country before buying.

Who should buy the XG32UCG?

It makes sense if you want one large screen for two jobs

The monitor is unusual in offering native 4K at 160Hz and a 320Hz Full HD profile in the same 31.5-inch chassis. It suits players who alternate between visually demanding games and competitive titles and prefer not to maintain two displays.

Consider another monitor if you require maximum resolution and refresh together

If your requirement is 4K at 240Hz or higher, this model’s dual-mode design does not provide it. Likewise, readers prioritizing measured HDR contrast, calibrated color, response-time consistency or input-lag rankings should consult independent instrumented reviews for those specific results; the published ASUS sheet does not establish them.

Quick buying checklist

  • Confirm that your GPU or console can output the resolution and refresh rate you intend to use.
  • Use a suitable DisplayPort, HDMI 2.1 or USB-C cable and verify the mode appears in the source settings.
  • Budget for lower image detail when selecting 320Hz Full HD.
  • Do not expect the 15W USB-C connection to replace a laptop charger.
  • Check local price, stock, warranty and package contents because these vary by region and over time.
