The Asus ROG Tessen is a foldable, wired USB-C controller designed for Android phones. It folds for storage and opens to hold a phone in landscape orientation. ASUS highlights programmable rear paddles, mechanical face buttons and D-pad, Armoury Crate customization, and 18W pass-through charging. The key buying caveat: ASUS lists Android compatibility, but its published specifications do not provide a full phone, case, port-placement, or game-support list.
How the foldable design works
The Tessen opens around a phone and holds it in landscape orientation, then folds down for storage. ASUS lists unfolded dimensions of 191.5 × 92 × 40 mm and folded dimensions of 94 × 92 × 85 mm, with a weight of 136 g. These are ASUS-published specifications, not independent measurements. ASUS’s specification page notes that specifications can change and availability may vary by market.
ASUS describes rubber support pads and an extended USB-C connector intended to accommodate compatible phones with protective cases. That is not a guarantee of fit for every handset or case: the published specifications do not state a universal case thickness or give a comprehensive device-fit list. Before buying, check your phone’s dimensions, the position and orientation of its USB-C port, and whether the case interferes with the controller’s supports or plug. ASUS’s product page
Controls and customization
Rear paddles and remapping
The controller has two aluminum rear paddles. ASUS says they can be programmed as face buttons either with the ROG Button or through the Armoury Crate app. This can put selected face-button actions within reach of the rear controls; ASUS does not claim that the paddles provide additional game-specific functions by themselves. Face buttons, D-pad and joysticks
ASUS describes the face buttons and D-pad as using mechanical switches, and calls the joysticks “console-grade.” These are manufacturer descriptions; the cited material does not provide independent durability, latency, or performance test results. ASUS ROG Pressroom
Wired connection and pass-through charging
The Tessen connects to a phone by USB-C and is listed as a wired controller. ASUS advertises 18W pass-through charging, allowing charging power to be connected while playing. The 18W figure is ASUS’s stated feature, not a guarantee that a particular phone will charge at 18W; actual charging depends on the phone, power source, and charging conditions. The controller does not independently supply that power. ASUS’s product page

Compatibility: check more than the USB-C plug
ASUS lists Android as the supported platform. A USB-C connector alone does not establish iOS support or ensure that a particular game will recognize the controller. TechRadar reports that the Tessen did not work properly with iOS in its testing; that report is a reason not to assume Apple-device compatibility, not a universal test of every setup. Nor do the cited specifications establish that every Android phone will fit or that every Android game supports controllers. Check the exact combination you plan to use:
- Phone: Confirm its physical dimensions and that the USB-C port aligns with the controller’s plug.
- Case: Check whether its shape and thickness allow the phone to sit securely despite ASUS’s case-oriented support pads and extended connector.
- Game: Confirm with the game publisher or in the game’s support information that controller input is supported.
- Specific handset: Do not treat a reader’s question or another user’s report as proof that a particular model works. Verify with ASUS support or the game publisher.
