Asus ROG’s CES 2026 lineup is led by the ROG G1000, a 104-liter full-tower gaming desktop with an AniMe Holo case display, desktop-class expansion, and graphics options reaching the GeForce RTX 5090. Alongside it, Asus refreshed several very different laptop families: thin Zephyrus models, upgrade-friendly Strix machines, the dual-screen Zephyrus Duo, and the convertible Flow Z13.

The important distinction is that “upgradeable” does not describe the entire range equally. The G1000 offers the broadest expansion potential; Strix G16 and G18 provide accessible RAM and SSD slots; Zephyrus G14 and G16 keep their RAM soldered to achieve a thinner design.

The ROG G1000 is the CES headline

Announced on January 5–6, 2026, the ROG G1000 combines the spectacle of a premium prebuilt with a more conventional enthusiast-PC expansion model. Asus lists configurations reaching an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090- or RTX 5080-class ROG Astral graphics cards, and AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT variants. These are configuration ceilings, not specifications shared by every retail system.

The desktop measures approximately 29 × 58.27 × 61.48cm and weighs about 40kg, making it closer to a piece of furniture than a compact gaming tower. Its 420mm liquid cooler, 1000W 80 Plus Gold power supply, Wi-Fi 7, and 2.5Gb Ethernet are aimed at high-end desktop use rather than easy relocation.

Cooling is divided into thermal zones

On the G1000 Edition 20, Asus describes a ROG Thermal Atrium design that separates airflow for the CPU, GPU, and power supply. That tri-zone arrangement is intended to keep the major heat sources from competing for the same air, while the large liquid-cooling system handles the processor. Asus’s thermal and performance language remains manufacturer positioning rather than independent test data.

AniMe Holo is the visual differentiator

The tempered-glass enclosure can project customizable holographic imagery through parts of the case using Asus’s AniMe Holo system. It is more distinctive than ordinary RGB lighting and turns the G1000 into a visual centerpiece, but it does not make games run faster. Buyers should decide whether the display and industrial design justify the premium over a conventional tower or custom build.

What can actually be upgraded?

Current US specifications list four DDR5 U-DIMM slots supporting up to 128GB, four M.2 storage connectors, six SATA ports, and PCIe expansion including a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot. Asus also highlights Q-Release and M.2 Q-Latch features intended to simplify graphics-card and SSD servicing.

That is substantial expansion for a prebuilt, but it is not proof that every part is interchangeable in the same way as a self-built ATX system. Before replacing a motherboard, power supply, cooler, or graphics card, check the exact retail SKU, motherboard format, connector layout, GPU clearance, radiator space, PSU dimensions and cabling, BIOS support, and warranty terms. Slot sharing and lane allocation may also affect how multiple drives and expansion cards operate. The official specifications confirm the interfaces; they do not establish every possible replacement scenario.

How the 2026 ROG laptops differ

Rather than one unified redesign, ROG’s laptop announcement covers distinct buyer categories.

Family Primary appeal Memory and storage CPU/GPU upgradeability
G1000 Expandable desktop performance Four DIMM slots, four M.2 connectors and six SATA ports listed Desktop components may be replaceable, subject to platform limits
Strix G16/G18 Sustained gaming performance User-accessible RAM and SSD slots CPU and GPU are fixed laptop components
Zephyrus G14/G16 Thin premium gaming Soldered LPDDR5X RAM; replaceable SSD CPU and GPU are fixed laptop components
Zephyrus Duo Dual-screen productivity and gaming Verify the exact SKU before assuming expansion Not a conventional modular laptop
Flow Z13 Tablet and 2-in-1 flexibility Verify by model Portability takes priority over internal expansion

Zephyrus G14 and G16: premium and portable, but buy the memory you need

The refreshed Zephyrus G14 and G16 focus on thinness, premium materials, OLED image quality, and high-end mobile graphics rather than long-term internal serviceability.

Depending on model and configuration, the range brings updated Intel and AMD processors, Intel Core Ultra Series 3 options with up to 50 TOPS of NPU compute, CNC-milled aluminum chassis designs, and OLED Nebula HDR displays. Brightness claims vary by panel and mode, reaching roughly 1,000 nits or more on selected models. The G16 includes a 2.5K 240Hz OLED option, while the G14 is listed with a 3K 120Hz OLED display.

The G14 reaches an RTX 5070 Ti on the listed US page. The G16 is listed with configurations reaching RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 Laptop GPUs, depending on SKU and region. “Up to RTX 5090” should therefore not be read as a guarantee that every G16 has that GPU.

The compromise is permanent RAM capacity. Asus says the G16 uses soldered LPDDR5X memory, with configurations up to 64GB, and directs buyers seeking upgradeable memory toward the Strix family. The SSD remains replaceable through an M.2 slot. Choose enough RAM at purchase; a later memory upgrade is not an option. This trade-off helps enable a thinner chassis and fast onboard memory, but it matters for buyers planning years of heavy gaming, content creation, or virtual-machine use.

Strix G16 and G18: the practical upgradeable laptops

The ROG Strix G16 and G18 are the better fit for buyers who value serviceability over the Zephyrus look. Asus emphasizes tool-less access to the RAM and SSD areas, so owners can expand memory and storage more easily.

Listed configurations reach an Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and an RTX 5080 Laptop GPU. The G16 range includes a panel reaching 300Hz. The G18 offers an 18-inch 2.5K 240Hz Mini LED display with G-SYNC in the listed configuration. Vapor-chamber and tri-fan cooling are designed around sustained performance, although real-world results depend on the exact configuration, power mode, game, and testing conditions.

These are larger, thicker laptops than the Zephyrus models. That is the expected cost of more cooling capacity, higher sustained power, and accessible components—not a design failure. “Upgradeable” here means primarily RAM and SSD. The CPU and GPU are soldered laptop parts and should be treated as non-upgradeable during normal ownership.

Zephyrus Duo and Flow Z13 serve specialist needs

The Zephyrus Duo 2026 is built around two full-size 16-inch 3K OLED touchscreens and a detachable keyboard. Asus describes it as a dual-screen gaming laptop, and the second panel can be useful for streaming controls, code, creative tools, chat, or reference material while gaming. The extra display, hinge or stand mechanism, detachable keyboard, weight, and cost also introduce more complexity than a conventional laptop. Check the exact model’s service information rather than assuming that its premium price includes upgradeable RAM.

The Flow Z13 occupies a different niche as a gaming tablet and 2-in-1. A Kojima Productions collaboration adds visual appeal to the range, but the product is aimed at buyers who prioritize portability and an unusual form factor. It should not be evaluated as a desktop-style expansion platform.

The desktop-replacement option arrived later

The Strix SCAR 18 belongs in the broader 2026 ROG refresh, but its US availability announcement came later, on June 24, 2026. Asus lists configurations reaching an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, up to 320W of total system power, and an 18-inch 4K 240Hz Mini LED option. Those figures apply to the SCAR 18 announcement, not to the entire ROG laptop lineup. It is a desktop replacement for buyers who want maximum laptop performance and accept considerable size, cost, and limited component replacement.

Announced specifications versus US availability

CES announcements describe product families and possible configurations. Retail pages show what Asus exposes for a particular market and date. They are not interchangeable.

Product Official US price signal seen August 18, 2026 Important qualification
Zephyrus G14 2026 $3,599.99 Price shown on the listed ASUS US product page; SKU and promotions can change
Zephyrus G16 2026 Starting at $3,699.99 Starting price, not a universal price for every configuration
Strix G18 2026 $3,299.99 Price shown on the listed ASUS US page for its listed configuration
ROG G1000 2026 No dependable dollar figure available in the supplied US page data Do not infer a price from a blank or “starting price” field

Prices and stock vary by country, SKU, retailer, and promotion. The CES announcement also used different storage descriptions in different materials, including references to up to 2TB and up to 4TB. Confirm the exact model number, installed capacity, memory configuration, display, and GPU before buying.

Which 2026 ROG system makes sense?

  • Choose the G1000 if you want a dramatic premium prebuilt, desktop-class cooling, and future RAM, storage, SATA, and PCIe expansion. Its size, roughly 40kg weight, uncertain exact US pricing, and potentially proprietary parts make a custom desktop worth comparing.
  • Choose the Strix G16 or G18 if accessible RAM and SSD upgrades matter more than thinness. The G18 is particularly suited to large-screen desktop-replacement use; the G16 is the more compact performance option.
  • Choose the Zephyrus G14 or G16 if portability, OLED quality, premium construction, and a slim chassis matter most. Buy sufficient RAM upfront and treat the SSD as the main internal upgrade.
  • Choose the Zephyrus Duo if a second full-size OLED screen solves a real gaming, streaming, coding, or creative-work problem. Its versatility is the reason to buy it, not presumed modularity.
  • Consider a custom-built desktop if you want standard parts, complete control over the motherboard, PSU, cooling and firmware, or frequent graphics-card upgrades. Compare the complete G1000 system—not just its CPU and GPU—with an equivalently equipped custom build.

What to check before ordering

  1. Record the exact model number and country-specific SKU.
  2. Confirm the installed RAM capacity and whether additional slots are available.
  3. Check the number of populated and free M.2 slots, lane sharing, and included SSD heatsinks.
  4. For the G1000, verify GPU clearance, power connectors, PSU compatibility, motherboard format, BIOS support, and warranty conditions before swapping major parts.
  5. For a laptop, assume the CPU and GPU cannot be upgraded unless Asus explicitly documents otherwise.
  6. Measure your desk, floor space, and route through doors before buying the 104-liter G1000.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
