The fastest way to troubleshoot an ASUS TUF Gaming A15 is to identify where the failure occurs: before the ASUS logo, during Windows startup, or after Windows loads. The A15 name covers multiple generations and model codes—including FA506 and FA507—with different BIOS files, wireless cards, GPUs, displays, and drivers. Find the exact model before downloading firmware or drivers, then work from the least destructive fix to the most involved one.
Do not begin with a BIOS flash or Windows reset. First determine whether the laptop has power, completes POST, reaches Windows, and detects the affected component.

1. Identify the exact A15 model first
Find the full model code on the bottom label, in BIOS/UEFI, in Settings → System → About, or in MyASUS. Examples include FA506NC, FA506IH, and FA507RE. Use that exact code on the ASUS support page.

Before troubleshooting, record the Windows version and build, BIOS version, CPU, GPU, and anything that changed immediately before the problem: a Windows, BIOS, graphics-driver, Armoury Crate, RAM, SSD, or hardware update. Disconnect USB hubs, external drives, docks, controllers, SD cards, and external monitors. Back up important data before opening the chassis, resetting Windows, updating BIOS, or sending the laptop for repair.

2. The five-minute triage checklist
- Connect the original ASUS AC adapter directly to a wall outlet.
- Check whether the charging indicator responds.
- Remove every peripheral and external display.
- Hold the power button until the machine shuts down if it is frozen, then reconnect AC power.
- Power on while pressing F2 to try entering BIOS. ASUS documents holding F2 and pressing the power button as a BIOS-access method.
- Note whether fans spin, keyboard lighting activates, the backlight turns on, the ASUS logo appears, Windows sounds play, or the system repeatedly restarts.
- If the laptop appears to boot, test an external monitor or TV.
| What you see | Most likely diagnostic area |
|---|---|
| No lights, fan, or charging indication | Adapter, charging port, battery, embedded controller, motherboard, or power rail |
| Lights or fans, but no ASUS logo | POST, BIOS, RAM, display, GPU, or motherboard |
| ASUS logo, but Windows fails | Bootloader, storage, Windows, update, or driver |
| Windows loads but one component fails | Driver, permissions, Armoury Crate/MyASUS configuration, or hardware |
| Works but crashes or throttles under load | Cooling, power mode, drivers, fan condition, or failing hardware |
3. The A15 will not turn on
Disconnect all accessories, connect the original charger, and check the charge indicator. Try entering BIOS with F2 while powering on. If the laptop remains unresponsive, follow the model-specific EC/RTC reset procedure in ASUS’s black-screen and no-display guidance.
If there are still no lights after the reset, stop repeatedly pressing the power button and avoid opening the laptop unnecessarily. Possible causes include a failed adapter, damaged DC-in port, battery failure, embedded-controller state, motherboard damage, liquid damage, or a short circuit. A random USB-C charger is not a substitute for the required barrel adapter unless ASUS specifies that support for your exact model.
4. The laptop powers on but the screen is black
No ASUS logo appears
This is a pre-Windows problem, not automatically a Windows graphics-driver problem. Disconnect external displays and accessories, perform the ASUS EC/RTC reset procedure, and try F2 during startup. Test an external monitor. If the external display works, prioritize the internal panel, display cable, backlight, MUX/GPU mode, or display-driver configuration. If neither display works and the ASUS logo never appears, suspect POST, BIOS, RAM, GPU, or motherboard faults.
If the issue began after a BIOS update, use only the recovery instructions for the exact model. Do not guess at a BIOS file.
Windows starts and then the screen goes black
Try Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B to reset the graphics driver. If possible, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, open Task Manager, and restart Windows Explorer. Microsoft’s blank-screen guidance also recommends Safe Mode, driver rollback, and checking display connections.
From Windows Recovery, use Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart, then press F5 for Safe Mode with Networking. Roll back or reinstall the display driver and remove recently installed GPU utilities or display-mode changes.
5. Boot loops, Automatic Repair, or slow startup
- Disconnect recently added hardware.
- Enter Windows Recovery Environment.
- Try Startup Repair.
- Use System Restore if the failure followed a driver, application, or update.
- Boot Safe Mode and uninstall the latest update or driver.
- Check whether the SSD is detected in BIOS.
- Back up data while Windows still opens.
- Use installation media only if built-in recovery fails.
Microsoft’s Windows recovery guidance distinguishes Startup Repair for startup failures from System Restore for problems following recent software changes.

Useful administrator commands are:
sfc /scannow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
chkdsk C: /scan
In Windows Recovery, the Windows partition may not be C:; verify the drive letter first. Do not run chkdsk /f or chkdsk /r casually on a failing SSD. Preserve important data before intensive disk repair.
6. BSODs, freezes, and random restarts
Photograph the stop code and note what the laptop was doing. Remove recently added RAM, SSDs, USB devices, and drivers. Test Safe Mode, then check Reliability Monitor with:
perfmon /rel
Also inspect Event Viewer, temperatures, fan behavior, and memory stability. Install the correct ASUS chipset, system-control, and graphics drivers for the exact model. Disable overclocks and undervolts. Update BIOS only when the file applies to the exact A15 model and the laptop has stable AC power. Microsoft’s stop-code guidance recommends investigating recent hardware and Safe Mode rather than treating every restart as the same fault.

7. Overheating, loud fans, and throttling
- Use the laptop on a hard, level surface.
- Keep intake and exhaust vents unobstructed.
- Clean external dust from the vents.
- Check that both fans are detected and operating.
- Compare idle temperatures with a repeatable game or workload.
- Check CPU/GPU utilization instead of judging temperature alone.
- Keep the charger connected during gaming.
- Install current BIOS, Windows packages, and model-specific drivers.
Armoury Crate modes involve trade-offs: Turbo favors performance but increases heat, noise, and power use; Performance is a middle ground; and Silent reduces noise at the cost of performance. Manual fan curves provide more control but can be configured poorly. ASUS also warns that setting Armoury Crate fan control to 100% does not necessarily equal the physical maximum fan speed. See ASUS’s overheating and fan guidance.
A cooling pad may improve airflow, but it cannot repair a dead fan, blocked internal heatsink, failed heat pipe, dried thermal material, swollen battery, or motherboard fault.
Seek service if the laptop overheats at idle, shuts down under light workloads, a fan does not spin, temperatures remain abnormal after cleaning, or there is a burning smell, swelling, or visible damage.

Tuned operating modes balance clock speeds and acoustics for the task at hand, customizable to your needs.
Install the wireless and Bluetooth packages from the exact ASUS model page. Different A15 configurations use different wireless hardware; a driver labeled only “A15” is not necessarily correct. For example, ASUS lists a specific Realtek wireless package for some FA506NC configurations.
Remove and re-add the Wi-Fi profile before using network reset. In Windows 11, the path is Settings → Network & internet → Advanced network settings → Network reset. Microsoft warns that network reset removes and reinstalls adapters and may require VPN or virtual-switch software to be configured again, so treat it as a later step. See Microsoft’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide.
9. Missing GPU, poor gaming performance, or wrong GPU selection
Check Device Manager, Settings → System → Display → Graphics, NVIDIA App or AMD software, and Armoury Crate GPU mode. Reinstall the correct integrated and discrete graphics drivers. If the GPU appears in BIOS but not Windows, prioritize drivers and configuration. If it is absent from BIOS too, the problem is more serious and may involve firmware or hardware.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchAfter a Windows reset, a practical driver order is:
- Windows Update.
- ASUS chipset and system-control components.
- Integrated graphics driver.
- Discrete GPU driver.
- Network drivers.
- Armoury Crate and MyASUS after core hardware works.
A black screen after changing GPU mode may be display routing or a driver problem. Avoid installing several competing driver packages or third-party driver tools without a rollback plan.
10. Armoury Crate problems
If Armoury Crate will not open, performance modes are missing, RGB controls fail, or installation loops, restart Windows and install pending Windows updates. Update ASUS System Control Interface and related model drivers. Then use ASUS’s official Armoury Crate uninstall tool, restart, and reinstall Armoury Crate from ASUS.
A corrupted Armoury Crate installation can affect fan, lighting, and power-mode controls, but it is not required for every diagnosis. Core BIOS, Windows, display, network, and hardware tests should still be performed independently. Third-party utilities may provide alternatives, but they can reduce access to ASUS-specific features and complicate support.
11. Battery does not charge or stops at 60% or 80%
A charge limit below 100% can be intentional battery protection, not a failed battery. Check Armoury Crate and MyASUS battery-health settings before replacing anything.

Some models expose only part of MyASUS’s diagnostic feature set. ASUS documents the battery workflow in its battery troubleshooting guide.
12. Keyboard, touchpad, audio, microphone, camera, and USB faults
Restart Windows, check function-key and function-lock behavior, and determine whether the failure affects one application or the entire operating system. Inspect Device Manager and reinstall the relevant ASUS system-control, chipset, audio, touchpad, camera, or USB driver.
For cameras and microphones, check Windows privacy permissions. Test a known-good external device. Where practical, test the component in BIOS or another operating system. If a device is missing from BIOS or remains absent from Device Manager after the correct driver is installed, prioritize hardware diagnosis over repeated driver reinstalls.

Power down and seek service for no power after the proper reset, no POST, failed BIOS recovery, repeated thermal shutdowns, a non-functioning fan, liquid damage, a burning smell, or a swollen battery. Do not continue charging a swollen or physically damaged battery.
For warranty or repair support, have the model name, serial number, proof of purchase, and a clear description of the failure ready. Back up data before shipment. Use ASUS’s support and repair portal and check warranty status through ASUS’s warranty lookup.
14. Repair versus self-repair
| Situation | Best next step |
|---|---|
| Driver missing after reinstall | Install the exact ASUS model driver |
| Component missing in Device Manager | Check BIOS, install the correct driver, then diagnose hardware |
| Component missing in BIOS | Treat it as a firmware or hardware issue |
| Black screen after Windows login | Try graphics reset, Safe Mode, and driver recovery |
| Black screen before the ASUS logo | Use EC/RTC, BIOS, RAM, display, and board diagnostics |
| Battery capped at 60% or 80% | Check battery-protection settings first |
| Fan absent or overheating at idle | Arrange service or internal inspection |
| Laptop under warranty | Prefer ASUS diagnosis before opening the chassis |
| Liquid damage, swelling, or burning smell | Power down and seek service immediately |
ASUS offers repair services for in- and out-of-warranty cases and a customer self-repair program for eligible models and parts. Self-repair is best reserved for owners who can identify the exact part and safely disassemble the laptop. Eligibility, warranty treatment, parts, and regional terms vary.
The Bottom Line
The reliable A15 troubleshooting method is symptom-first: identify the exact model, separate pre-boot failures from Windows problems, use the official ASUS driver and BIOS resources, and escalate when the evidence points to power, motherboard, display, battery, or cooling hardware. That approach avoids the most damaging mistakes—flashing the wrong BIOS, resetting Windows unnecessarily, or replacing a healthy battery because a protection mode stopped charging at 80%.
