Verdict: The Asus TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5070 OC Edition is an excellent 1440p graphics card when quiet operation, strong cooling, and a substantial build matter more than price. Its cooler is the real upgrade: independent testing found it dramatically quieter than Nvidia’s Founders Edition. The factory overclock, however, adds only a few percent of performance, so the TUF is worth buying only when its premium over a competent RTX 5070 is modest.

The short version

The TUF RTX 5070 OC is a premium custom card, not a meaningfully faster RTX 5070. In ComputerBase testing, its Performance BIOS delivered roughly a 3% advantage over the RTX 5070 Founders Edition, despite sustaining approximately 2,800MHz versus 2,691MHz for Nvidia’s card. In one Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition 4K result, the TUF reached 44.3fps compared with 42.9fps for the Founders Edition. (ComputerBase)

That makes the buying decision straightforward: choose the Asus if you want a particularly quiet, cool-running 1440p card and your case has room for its 329mm, 3.125-slot body. Choose a cheaper RTX 5070 if maximum value is the priority. If the TUF approaches RTX 5070 Ti pricing, or if you want long-term 4K performance and more VRAM, step up instead.

Price and value

Nvidia launched the RTX 5070 at a $549 reference price. An Asus US Store page displayed the TUF RTX 5070 OC at $799.99 in the supplied pricing snapshot, but that is a manufacturer-store price signal rather than a reliable measure of current street pricing. GPU prices and availability vary by country, retailer, tax, and stock, so check live listings before buying. (Asus US; Nvidia)

#1 Best Overall
GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 5070 WINDFORCE OC SFF 12G Graphics Card, 12GB 192-bit GDDR7, PCIe 5.0, WINDFORCE Cooling System, GV-N5070WF3OC-12GD Video Card
  • Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
  • Powered by GeForce RTX 5070

At a small premium over the least expensive reputable RTX 5070, the TUF’s acoustics and construction can justify the difference. A large premium cannot: the OC badge does not produce a proportionate frame-rate increase. The same rule applies to even more expensive premium cards such as Asus’s ROG Strix RTX 5070 OC, which Asus listed at $889.99 in the research snapshot.

BIOS Performance and Quiet

The card uses three Axial-tech fans, a large heatsink, Asus’s MaxContact cooler, a phase-change GPU thermal pad, and a vented metal shroud and backplate. It also includes a support bracket, although the exact bundle can vary by region. Fans stop below 50°C and restart above 55°C according to Asus’s documentation.

Those dimensions are a major part of the buying decision. Measure GPU clearance with front fans or a radiator installed, check the distance to the side panel and power connector, and account for neighboring PCIe cards. A case advertised as GPU-compatible may not leave enough room for the power-cable bend. Use the included bracket or an equivalent support.

Cooling and noise: the TUF’s best feature

ComputerBase’s direct custom-card comparison shows why this model costs more than a basic RTX 5070. Its test used a Ryzen 7 9800X3D system in a Fractal Design Meshify 2 with six case fans. The results below are specific to that test environment, not universal guarantees.

Card or mode GPU temperature Noise Sustained clock
TUF Performance BIOS 61°C 35dB(A) 2,800MHz
TUF Quiet BIOS 68°C 29dB(A) 2,781MHz
RTX 5070 Founders Edition 74°C 41dB(A) 2,691MHz

The Quiet BIOS is especially impressive. At approximately 29dB(A), it was the quietest card in ComputerBase’s comparison, while its roughly 68°C GPU temperature remained entirely normal. Quiet mode is not a cooler mode: it deliberately allows a higher temperature in exchange for lower fan speed. ComputerBase measured approximately 910rpm in Quiet mode and 1,380rpm in Performance mode.

Performance mode lowers temperatures and preserves the highest sustained clocks, while Quiet mode is the better choice for a silent-focused build. Switch BIOS profiles only with the computer powered off and follow Asus’s instructions. Neither profile replaces adequate case airflow.

Gaming performance

1440p is the natural target

The RTX 5070 is primarily a high-refresh 1440p GPU. It is well suited to conventional rasterized games at that resolution, and Blackwell features make supported ray-traced games more practical with DLSS. TechPowerUp’s full review provides the broader game-by-game raster, ray-tracing, DLSS, temperature, noise, power, and efficiency results; individual settings matter more than any single average. At 1080p, a fast CPU can become the limiting factor, making the TUF’s expensive cooler harder to justify. At 4K, the card remains usable with sensible settings and DLSS, but it is not a universal native-4K, maximum-settings solution for demanding modern games.

Do not confuse generated frames with native performance

Nvidia’s RTX 5070 supports DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation, which can substantially raise the displayed frame rate in compatible games. That does not mean the GPU is rendering the same number of native frames. Super Resolution reduces internal render resolution, while Frame Generation creates additional frames using AI. Base frame rate, latency, image quality, and generated frame rate should be considered separately. Nvidia’s platform claims are workload- and game-dependent, not guarantees for every title. Power, PSU considerations, and efficiency

The reference RTX 5070 specification is 250W, but ComputerBase measured approximately 266W for the Asus TUF in both BIOS modes. The test also reported an Asus telemetry power limit of up to 300W. Measured gaming power is not the same thing as transient power or whole-system wall consumption.

The TUF is therefore not a compact, low-power design. Use a quality modern PSU appropriate for the complete system, confirm the correct connector and cable clearance for the exact regional model, and avoid judging PSU suitability by wattage alone. A powerful processor, overclocking, poor airflow, or several drives can change the system requirement.

Is 12GB of VRAM enough?

Its 12GB of GDDR7 is appropriate for the RTX 5070’s 1440p focus, particularly when texture settings are chosen sensibly. It is not automatically inadequate for modern games, but neither is it a guarantee of comfortable long-term maximum-quality gaming.

Buyers planning heavy ray tracing, 4K gaming, large texture mods, professional GPU workloads, or a particularly long ownership period should consider a card with more memory. DLSS lowers render resolution but does not remove the memory cost of high-resolution textures and game assets. The inconsistent AI TOPS figures shown on different Asus regional pages are not useful reasons to choose this model; gaming performance, memory capacity, price, and acoustics matter more.

Who should buy it?

  • Buy the TUF when it costs only a modest amount more than a good RTX 5070, you value low noise, your case supports a 329mm card, and 1440p is your main resolution.
  • Choose a cheaper RTX 5070 when price per frame matters most or the OC label is the only reason you are considering the TUF. A competent cheaper card provides nearly the same gaming performance.
  • Consider an RTX 5070 Ti or higher-memory model when 4K, heavy ray tracing, or long-term ownership is more important than silence.
  • Consider AMD when native raster performance per dollar and additional VRAM matter more than DLSS, Multi Frame Generation, CUDA, NVENC, or Nvidia-specific creator features.

The Founders Edition is an attractive alternative when available because it is smaller and closer to Nvidia’s reference price, but ComputerBase measured it at approximately 41dB(A), substantially louder than either TUF BIOS. MSI’s Gaming Trio was also quiet in the same comparison at approximately 31dB(A), while Zotac’s Solid design was more compact but louder than the TUF. Exact dimensions, prices, and warranty terms vary by region.

Final verdict

The Asus TUF GeForce RTX 5070 OC is a premium-silence RTX 5070. Its cooler keeps temperatures low, its Quiet BIOS is genuinely useful, and its construction and dual-BIOS flexibility are meaningful advantages. The factory overclock is not: roughly 3% more performance is not enough to justify a major price increase.

Buy it at a modest premium for a quiet 1440p gaming PC. Buy only at a discount if value is your priority. Skip it if your case is tight, if you need more than 12GB of VRAM, or if its price approaches a substantially faster RTX 5070 Ti.
