The Asus V16 V3607V is a relatively portable 16-inch laptop that pairs a 144Hz screen with discrete Nvidia graphics, but the model name covers configurations with very different gaming performance. The reviewed RTX 3050 version is best for 1080p or 1920×1200 gaming at adjusted settings; if an RTX 4050 version costs only about $100 more, it is the more compelling choice. The shared compromises are a narrow-gamut display, plastic construction and no Ethernet port.

Verdict: Consider the V16 as a budget multimedia laptop that can game, not as a full-power gaming machine. Buy with at least 16GB of RAM, check the exact GPU and its power limit, and choose a stronger alternative if display color, wired networking or sustained performance matters most.

Which Asus V16 V3607V configuration was reviewed?

The detailed test behind this review is of one specific configuration, not every laptop sold as a V3607V. Notebookcheck tested and published its review on March 19, 2025, listing the machine at $900 at that time. Those prices are historical, not current quotes.

V3607V is a family identifier, not a complete specification. Asus’s US pages list RTX 3050 and RTX 4050 options, while listings in the US and other regions also show RTX 5050 and RTX 5060 configurations. Before comparing prices, verify the CPU, GPU, GPU power limit, RAM capacity and channel configuration, SSD, screen specification and warranty region. Asus and Notebookcheck also caution that some components, including panels, can vary by supplier.

The distinction matters: Notebookcheck’s gaming figures below are from the 65W RTX 3050 test unit. TechRadar’s review covers an RTX 4050 version. Neither set of results should be treated as a benchmark for every V16. See Asus’s US V16 specifications and its US configuration page for the family’s listed options.

What kind of laptop is the V16?

The V16 makes most sense as a budget multimedia laptop with gaming capability. Its understated styling and relatively manageable weight suit a student, home user or office worker who wants one machine for everyday tasks and games without a conspicuous gaming-laptop design. It is not built around the premium materials, high-powered graphics or display quality expected of a more expensive gaming system.

  • A good fit: schoolwork, browsing, programming, office applications, media and occasional gaming.
  • A conditional fit: creative work, if the built-in display is not relied on for color-critical decisions.
  • A poor fit: competitive players who need wired networking and a fast-response panel, or buyers seeking maximum sustained gaming performance.

Is the 144Hz display good?

The 16-inch, 1920×1200, 16:10 panel offers useful vertical room for documents, coding and web pages. Its 144Hz refresh rate can make cursor movement and supported games look smoother than on a standard 60Hz display. The resolution is also a sensible match for the RTX 3050 configuration: it is less demanding than a higher-resolution panel while still offering a sharp-enough workspace.

But this is a fast-refresh budget panel, not a creator display. Notebookcheck measured about 297.6 nits average brightness, 59.7% sRGB coverage, 42.2% AdobeRGB and 40.9% Display P3, with contrast around 627:1. It also noted backlight bleed and response times that may disappoint competitive players. Asus’s regional specifications describe a 300-nit, 45% NTSC panel, broadly consistent with limited color coverage. TechRadar likewise found the screen potentially washed out and reflective.

For gaming, study and general media, the panel is usable; in bright rooms, its modest brightness is a consideration. For photo editing, video grading or design where colors must be dependable, use an external color-accurate monitor. A 144Hz label alone does not make the screen an esports-grade panel. Panel specifications can differ by SKU or supplier, so verify the exact model listing rather than assuming every V3607V has the measured panel. How well does the RTX 3050 version game?

The tested RTX 3050 has 6GB of graphics memory and a 65W power limit. It is a settings-conscious 1080p or 1920×1200 gaming option, not a laptop for expecting high frame rates in every demanding game at maximum quality. Esports and less demanding games are a more natural match than intensive AAA titles. In supported games, DLSS can help improve performance, but results depend on the title, settings and implementation.

Notebookcheck’s results for its particular Core 7 240H/RTX 3050 configuration illustrate the range:

Game and test setting Measured result
Cyberpunk 2077, 1920×1080, high with ray tracing Approximately 45.4 fps
Cyberpunk 2077, 1920×1080, cited high-preset benchmark without the heaviest ray-tracing burden Approximately 44–45 fps
The Witcher 3, 1920×1080, ultra Approximately 31.6 fps
Far Cry 6, 1920×1080, high Approximately 89.7 fps
Strange Brigade, 1920×1080, high Approximately 106.9 fps

These are Notebookcheck lab results for the tested unit, not promised frame rates for every V16. Game patches, drivers, power mode, memory configuration and thermal conditions can change performance. In particular, single-channel RAM may hold back some CPU-sensitive games and applications versus a dual-channel setup, but there is no universal penalty percentage established for this laptop.

For a demanding game, start at 1920×1080 or 1920×1200, select a medium-to-high preset, and lower demanding effects such as ray tracing if smoothness matters more than image detail. Treat the 144Hz panel as useful headroom for lighter titles and esports, not as evidence that the RTX 3050 will deliver 144 frames per second in modern AAA games. Which GPU configuration should you buy?

For many buyers, the RTX 4050 is the sensible target if the price gap remains small. Notebookcheck said that version cost about $100 more than the reviewed RTX 3050 model at the time and reported more than 50% faster graphics performance in its comparison. That is a publication’s comparison, not a guaranteed uplift in every game or configuration. TechRadar also reviewed an RTX 4050 V16, but its results describe that version rather than the RTX 3050 test unit.

The RTX 4050 uses Nvidia’s Ada Lovelace architecture and supports DLSS 3. Still, a GPU name does not reveal its laptop power limit: the same GPU model can perform differently in different chassis. Check the listed TGP, RAM and display as well as the GPU tier. Prefer a 16GB configuration over an 8GB model unless the exact machine has a practical, affordable memory upgrade path.

RTX 5050 and RTX 5060 V3607V listings may look attractive, but compare their GPU power limits with those of thicker gaming laptops before paying a premium. For example, a Best Buy listing identifies one V3607VM RTX 5060 configuration at approximately 45W; that is a specification for that listed model, not all V16 RTX 5060 machines. Sources: Notebookcheck’s comparison and verdict, TechRadar’s RTX 4050 review, and the Best Buy V3607VM listing.

  • RTX 4050 with 16GB: the preferred balance if its premium over the RTX 3050 remains modest.
  • RTX 5050 or 5060: consider only after checking TGP and comparing the live price with higher-powered alternatives.
  • RTX 3050: reasonable when meaningfully discounted and your expectations are 1080p/1200p gaming with settings adjusted.
  • 8GB RAM: avoid unless upgradeability, total cost and the target SKU are clear.

Do not carry the reviewed RTX 3050’s benchmarks over to other GPUs, or assume an RTX 4050/5050/5060 label guarantees full-power performance.

Is the Core 7 240H fast enough for work?

The Core 7 240H is a 10-core, 16-thread Raptor Lake-H Refresh processor with boost clocks up to 5.2GHz. Notebookcheck found productivity performance broadly comparable to the Core Ultra 7 155H in its tested benchmarks, although the Core 7 240H lacks an NPU. It is well suited to office work, programming, browsing and ordinary content creation, but it is not a premium workstation CPU.

In Notebookcheck’s lab tests, the reviewed unit scored 14,686 in Cinebench R23 multi-core, 11,285 in Geekbench 6.7 multi-core and 2,646 in Geekbench 6.7 single-core. These figures apply to that configuration and test conditions. Notebookcheck also cautioned about processor throttling under sustained workloads, so short benchmark bursts do not tell the whole story for long renders, exports or compilations. How are the keyboard, touchpad, webcam and speakers?

The V16 has a backlit chiclet keyboard, a large clickpad, a 1080p webcam and stereo speakers. These are practical everyday features rather than standout reasons to buy it. The keyboard should suit school and office tasks; players who prefer a mechanical keyboard may still want an external one. A large clickpad is convenient away from a desk but is not a substitute for a gaming mouse.

Notebookcheck rated the keyboard at 77%, the pointing device at 81%, audio at 70% and camera at 46%. Its results suggest the webcam is adequate for calls but not a major strength. TechRadar found the keyboard useful and MyAsus functional, though less polished than some competing utilities. The limited color coverage is more consequential for creative work than the ordinary webcam or speaker quality. Sources: Notebookcheck’s component ratings and TechRadar.

Is it portable, and how sturdy is the chassis?

At approximately 1.974kg and 22mm thick, the V16 is manageable for a 16-inch laptop with discrete graphics. Its 503g power adapter takes the combined laptop-and-charger load to roughly 2.48kg, which is the more useful figure for a regular commute. The all-plastic chassis keeps the look relatively understated, but does not provide premium materials or exceptional rigidity.

Reviews differ in emphasis: Notebookcheck noted twisting in the lid and base and a surface that collects fingerprints, while TechRadar described the machine as sleek, understated and reasonably well assembled, though not the sturdiest gaming laptop. Together, those observations point to a design that travels reasonably well and looks restrained, but is not a premium-feeling metal build. What ports and wireless connections does it have?

The tested unit provides three USB-A ports, one USB-C port with Power Delivery, HDMI, DisplayPort support and a 3.5mm combo audio jack, along with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3. It has no RJ-45 Ethernet port. TechRadar also noted that the ports are concentrated on the left, with none at the rear.

The omission is relevant if your desk setup relies on wired networking, multiple peripherals or a neat monitor connection. A USB Ethernet adapter or hub can address the missing wired network connection, but adds another item to carry. Check the exact configuration for port details before buying. Sources: Notebookcheck’s connectivity specifications and TechRadar’s port observations.

How long does the battery last?

Notebookcheck measured approximately 8 hours 59 minutes of Wi-Fi web browsing with Eco/Balanced settings and the discrete GPU inactive. That is a respectable light-use result for a 63Wh laptop with an H-series processor and discrete graphics; it is not a prediction of gaming endurance. Play demanding games while plugged in. Brightness, refresh rate, GPU mode, Windows power settings and background software all affect battery runtime. Test conditions and result: Notebookcheck’s battery test.

What are the thermals and fan noise like?

TechRadar observed noticeable heat on the keyboard during gaming, particularly around the space bar, while finding the fans relatively quiet for the class. That balance can suit a classroom, office or shared room, but quiet fans should not be read as proof of high sustained graphics power. Notebookcheck tested in Performance mode and used MyAsus to switch performance and GPU operating modes; it reported that the discrete GPU can be disabled without restarting.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For gaming, use a performance-oriented mode while plugged in. Eco or battery settings are intended to reduce power use and are not a fair way to judge maximum GPU performance. Sources: TechRadar’s thermal and noise observations and Notebookcheck’s test conditions.

How does it compare with alternatives?

The best alternative depends on what the V16’s compromises cost you. Compare actual configurations rather than broad family names: GPU model and TGP, screen brightness and gamut, RAM, weight with charger, Ethernet, storage and live price. These are options to investigate, not a claim that one family always wins.

Alternative Consider it if you prioritize… Trade-off or evidence
Acer Nitro V Gaming value and newer graphics TechRadar identified an RTX 5050 Nitro V 15 configuration as a stronger specification at similar cost; compare its exact GPU power and display.
HP Pavilion Plus 16 A stronger built-in display Notebookcheck cited over 99% sRGB coverage for the comparison, but noted a typically higher price and less gaming-focused design.
Dell Inspiron 16 Plus Display and chassis alternatives Notebookcheck’s comparison points to a potentially stronger screen and chassis, with greater weight and often higher cost.
Asus TUF Gaming A more gaming-oriented design and potentially higher-powered graphics Usually a heavier, less understated class of machine; compare the exact SKU and GPU power.
Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 16 Productivity, screen quality and portability A useful comparison when gaming performance is less important than everyday work and display quality.

Comparison context: TechRadar’s Acer Nitro V comparison and Notebookcheck’s alternatives and comparison tables.

Who should buy the Asus V16?

Choose a V16 when its exact configuration is attractively priced and you want one relatively portable 16-inch machine for work, study and moderate gaming. Favor 16GB RAM and the RTX 4050 or newer if the price and GPU power limit make sense. The RTX 3050 model is a plausible budget pick only at a meaningful discount.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Look elsewhere if the price approaches a better-equipped RTX 5050 or RTX 5060 laptop with higher GPU power, or if you need a color-accurate built-in screen, wired Ethernet, a rigid metal chassis or reliable maximum performance in long CPU-heavy workloads. Do not choose solely by the V3607V family name or the GPU badge: the SKU and its power limits define what you are buying.
