The sales figure is a milestone reported in 2024, not a current sales total. In January 2025, Game World Observer cited Niko Partners for a figure of more than 25 million copies globally. That is a later, dated report—not an October 2026 total. The sources cited here do not establish a current official sales figure.
What was actually confirmed about the expansion?
GameSpot said Hero Games investor Daniel Wu told Bloomberg that the game could sell 30 million copies over its lifetime and bring in more money with an expansion “that’s on the way.” The 30 million was a forecast, not a final sales result. Is Black Myth: Zhong Kui the Wukong expansion?
No. On August 19, 2025, PC Gamer reported that Game Science had revealed Black Myth: Zhong Kui as the second entry in the Black Myth series. It is a separate game, not the Wukong expansion. What the sales milestone does—and does not—tell players
The 18-million figure shows the scale of the game’s early commercial success, but it does not supply a development update. Wu’s statement connected the game’s sales potential with a planned expansion; it did not provide a schedule or feature list. GameSpot also reproduced Wu’s view that “Wukong proves not only that we have top-notch game-making capabilities, but also we can tell a good story with Chinese elements.” That is Wu’s assessment as an investor in Game Science through Hero Games, not an independent evaluation of the game.
