At Fate’s End has a compelling hook: sword duels shaped by family secrets and conversations, with estranged siblings at the center of its story. But it is not a 2026 release—or a proven must-play. Thunder Lotus has delayed the game to 2027, and the only playable version currently available is a free Steam demo.
Is At Fate’s End out yet?
No. The full game is in development and is now planned for 2027. Thunder Lotus announced the delay on October 6, 2026, saying the team wanted more time to polish the game and would share a more precise date when ready. The current Steam listing also gives 2027 as the release window. The studio’s original 2025 announcement named 2026, but that window has been superseded.
Can you play the demo?
Yes. Thunder Lotus released a free demo on Steam on October 6, 2026. The studio has not confirmed demo versions on other platforms. The preview focuses on Shan’s sister Camilla and lets players try to overcome her with swordplay, words, or both. The developer and Steam both caution that the game is still in active development, so the demo may not reflect the final content or polish.
What kind of game is it?
Thunder Lotus describes At Fate’s End as a single-player action-adventure. You play as Shan, heir to the Hemlock clan, exploring a hand-crafted fantasy world, facing creatures, solving narrative puzzles, and confronting estranged siblings. Its defining idea is to connect sword combat with tactical dialogue: knowledge of family secrets and psychological insight can inform how Shan approaches a confrontation.

The studio says relationships and outcomes can change depending on whether Shan defeats or reconciles with her siblings. Seven swords are intended to expand her abilities. Steam uses tags including action-adventure, exploration, metroidvania, side-scroller, hand-drawn, and choices matter; those are store classifications, not a detailed confirmation of the game’s map structure.
Is it like Spiritfarer?
There is a connection in the studio’s stated creative approach, but the games should not be treated as the same kind of experience. Thunder Lotus describes At Fate’s End as more intense and action-driven than Spiritfarer, while retaining an intimate emotional focus. Creative director Nicolas Guérin said the new game takes lessons from Spiritfarer’s emotional core and the interplay of mechanics and narrative into “thrilling new territory.” That is the developer’s framing, not an independent assessment of how the finished games compare.

What platforms are planned?

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the demo’s rating make it a must-play?
Not on its own. On October 7, 2026, Steam showed the demo at 81% positive from 27 user reviews. That is an early snapshot of feedback on a free preview, and the score and count can change. It is not a review score for the full game, which had no user reviews on its Steam listing at that time, and it does not establish broad critical consensus.
