Atari 2600 My Play Watch Brings Retro Gaming to Your Wrist for $79.99—but There’s a Catch

The Atari 2600 My Play Watch is a $79.99 retro collectible with four built-in games, but its offline design makes it very different from a normal smartwatch.

The Atari 2600 My Play Watch is a real playable watch, but it is not a conventional smartwatch. For $79.99, Atari’s wearable includes four built-in games—Centipede, Missile Command, Pong, and Super Breakout—along with retro watch faces, Atari sound effects, and basic activity tracking. The catch is that it has no Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, phone notifications, GPS, or companion-app synchronization.

That makes it more accurately a retro gaming collectible that tells time than a cheaper alternative to an Apple Watch, Fitbit, or Android smartwatch.

What you get for $79.99

Atari lists the Atari 2600 My Play Watch at $79.99. The current product listing includes:

  • A 2.02-inch TFT touchscreen
  • Four built-in Atari games
  • Atari-themed watch faces and sound effects
  • Basic fitness features, including steps, heart-rate monitoring, and calorie estimates
  • A metal bezel and rotating crown
  • Two interchangeable reversible bands
  • A magnetic charging cable

The watch runs MyPlayWatch OS. It is not an expandable Atari console: Atari does not list cartridge support, downloadable games, or an additional game store.

See Atari’s current product listing.

The four built-in games

The included games are Centipede, Missile Command, Pong, and Super Breakout. They are adapted for the watch rather than presented as a full Atari 2600 console experience, so buyers should not expect original-cartridge support, a television-sized display, or the complete Atari 2600 library.

The rotating crown is the most distinctive control. Atari positions it as a paddle-style input, making it especially relevant to Pong and Super Breakout. You can open the game list by swiping left from the home screen or pressing the side button. During play, pressing the crown pauses the game; the guide then provides an option to quit.

For Pong, Centipede, and Super Breakout, sensitivity can be adjusted through App List → Settings → Game Options. The guide lists level 3 as the default sensitivity.

The catch: it is offline by design

The My Play Watch platform intentionally leaves out the connected features most people associate with a smartwatch.

Feature Atari 2600 My Play Watch
Phone notifications No
Bluetooth No
Wi-Fi No
GPS No
Phone fitness synchronization No
Third-party apps None listed
Built-in games Four fixed titles
Activity tracking Basic

This can be a benefit if you want a distraction-free watch with no accounts, alerts, pairing, or cloud history. It is a major limitation if you want message notifications, GPS workouts, synced fitness data, music controls, calls, or software updates. My Play Watch markets the lack of updates as a way to avoid obsolescence, but it also means you should not expect the feature additions and security support associated with connected watches.

My Play Watch describes its offline platform.

Fitness tracking is basic

The watch can provide steps, heart-rate readings, and calorie estimates, but it should not be treated as a medical device or a replacement for a dedicated fitness tracker. There is no GPS-based workout tracking, advanced training analysis, or phone-based fitness history listed in the supplied product information.

  • SELECTIVE TECH – NO DISTRACTIONS – A non-connected smartwatch with no notifications, no tracking, just pure gameplay and fitness.
  • RETRO-INSPIRED DESIGN – Features custom crown that honors the visuals of Tetris with thoughtful details, deep Tetris themed software.
  • VIBRANT FULL-COLOR DISPLAY – 1.91” TFT touchscreen for sharp, colorful visuals, perfect for gaming and everyday use.
  • FITNESS MEETS NOSTALGIA – Track heart rate, steps, and calories with a Tetris-themed fitness interface.

Its fitness functions are best understood as convenient estimates built into a novelty wearable—not the reason to buy it.

Hardware, charging, and water resistance

Atari lists a 2.02-inch TFT touchscreen, a metal bezel, interchangeable bands, and an IP68 rating. Atari describes the watch as dust protected and water resistant beyond one meter. IP68 does not mean universally waterproof, however. Seals can age, and exposure to swimming, diving, showers, impact, or high-pressure water may exceed what the rating or warranty covers. Buyers should check Atari’s specific usage guidance rather than assume unrestricted water use.

The U.S. Atari product page does not state battery capacity or a guaranteed runtime. A Japanese My Play Watch site lists a 230mAh battery and approximately four days of average use, with two-to-three-hour charging, but that should not be treated as a confirmed U.S. specification.

  • PRACTICAL EVERYDAY FEATURES Stay on schedule with a 1/100-second stopwatch, daily alarm, hourly time signal, auto calendar, and selectable 12/24-hour time format. Designed for reliable everyday performance whether you're at work, school, or on the go.

  • DEPENDABLE CASIO QUALITY Built with Casio's legendary reliability, this watch features quartz accuracy of approximately ±30 seconds per month, water resistance for daily use, a durable chrome-plated resin case, and a stainless steel bracelet designed to withstand years of everyday wear.

The official guide says to connect the magnetic USB cable to a USB power source, place the connector on the rear charging contacts, and allow roughly two to three hours to fully charge a low-battery watch. The cable’s orientation matters. The power adapter itself is sold separately. If the watch stops responding, hold the crown for five seconds to reboot it.

What is in the box?

Atari’s current listing says the watch includes two interchangeable reversible bands, including designs associated with Centipede and Super Breakout. Some launch coverage mentioned a possible third Missile Command band for early orders, but that should be treated as a historical promotion rather than a guaranteed current inclusion.

Who should buy it?

  • Atari collectors: The themed crown, watch faces, sounds, artwork, and bands give it more character than a generic budget wearable.
  • Retro fans: The four games provide quick offline play without a phone or internet connection.
  • Gift buyers: It is an accessible Atari novelty at a relatively modest price.
  • Notification-averse users: The absence of alerts and accounts is intentional, not a missing setup step.
  • Casual players: It works for short bursts of simple gaming, provided four fixed titles are enough.

Who should skip it?

Do not buy it as a replacement for an Apple Watch, Fitbit, or full Android smartwatch. It lacks notifications, GPS, phone integration, advanced health features, and a broader app ecosystem. It is also a poor substitute for a dedicated retro handheld or console: the display is small, the game library is fixed, and the controls cannot reproduce the full television-based Atari experience.

Alternatives by buyer type

  • Want a different My Play Watch collectible? The Centipede 45th Anniversary My Play Watch includes three Centipede versions—Arcade, Atari 2600, and Remix—instead of the four-game Atari 2600 mix.
  • Want better retro gaming? The Atari Gamestation Go is a dedicated handheld with more than 200 built-in games, a seven-inch display, paddle and trackball controls, HDMI, and Wi-Fi updates.
  • Want a lower-cost Atari handheld? Atari lists the Super Pocket Atari Edition at $59.99, though it is not a watch or fitness device.
  • Want cartridge-based television play? The Atari 2600+ is the better fit for buyers who want Atari 2600 and 7800 cartridge support.
  • Want serious health tracking or phone features? Choose a conventional smartwatch or fitness tracker instead.

Price and availability warning

Atari’s U.S. product page lists the watch at $79.99 and says it ships in two to three days. However, Atari’s My Play Watch collection page has also labeled the same model “Sold out.” That may reflect regional inventory, cached store data, or a catalog error. Check the actual product page and checkout status before paying.

Atari publishes a general one-year limited warranty, but eligibility, exclusions, proof-of-purchase requirements, liquid damage, accidental damage, normal wear, battery deterioration, and sales-channel restrictions may apply. Confirm that the specific watch and seller are covered.
