Atari Gamestation Go: What CES 2025 Revealed—and What Launched

The Atari Gamestation Go is a My Arcade-made retro handheld built around an unusual idea: one portable device can offer the different controls that classic games were designed for. It combines a paddle, trackball, numeric keypad, d-pad, bumpers and standard gamepad buttons with more than 200 built-in games. Shown around CES 2025 and later launched at a $179.99 MSRP, it is a dedicated game system—not a general-purpose gaming PC.

What Atari and My Arcade showed around CES 2025

The Gamestation Go is a collaboration between Atari and My Arcade. My Arcade announced in March 2025 that the device had been featured in Yanko Design’s “CES Best in Show 2025” awards. The announcement described a 7-inch display, HDMI output, USB-C ports for external controllers, SmartGlow controls and more than 200 games, with a $179.99 price. It initially anticipated a third-quarter release, while also referring to availability later in the year. My Arcade’s March 2025 announcement

That was a pre-release picture, not the final word on timing. On September 8, 2025, My Arcade announced the launch, giving an October 2025 start for select retailer availability and naming GameStop, EB Games and Atari.com for preorder. Its launch description added built-in Wi-Fi and estimated battery play of 4–5 hours. My Arcade’s September 2025 launch announcement

Why the controls are different from a typical handheld

Most handhelds rely on a familiar set of directional controls and buttons. The Gamestation Go adds input types associated with different eras and genres of arcade and console games: a paddle, a trackball (spelled “trak-ball” in Atari’s product listing), and a numeric keypad, alongside a d-pad, bumpers and A/B/X/Y buttons. The point is to let games designed for those distinct controls be played on one portable system rather than forcing every title into a standard gamepad layout.

  • 🕹️ 200+ video games built-in, including PAC-MAN, Atari: Recharged and Balls of Steel, Asteroids, Breakout, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Missile Command, Tempest, Warlords, Yars Revenge and many More!
  • 🎯 Also includes licensed games from Jaleco & PIKO Interactive. Game Save options.
  • High resolution 7” full color display. The integrated paddle, d-pad, trak-ball, numeric keypad, bumpers, and classic gamepad buttons (A,B,X,Y) allow you to play every game in the collection with the controls it was designed for.
  • 🕹️ Connects to TV via HDMI. Built in Wi-Fi for easy updates. Powered by a built-in rechargeable battery.

SmartGlow LEDs illuminate the controls needed for each game. My Arcade describes the feature as a way to make gameplay intuitive; it is a product claim, not independent testing. The lights also serve as a practical guide when a game calls for an input that a conventional handheld would not have.

What the launched product includes

  • Game library: More than 200 built-in titles, including Atari Recharged games, Balls of Steel, PAC-MAN and games from Atari 2600, 5200, 7800 and arcade catalogs. The listed library also includes licensed games associated with PAC-MAN, Jaleco and PIKO International.
  • Screen and TV connection: A 7-inch full-color display and HDMI output for connecting to a television. My Arcade’s product page lists an HDMI cable in the box, so a separate cable is not required for that connection.
  • Connectivity and power: Built-in Wi-Fi, USB-C ports for external controllers, and an included rechargeable battery. My Arcade estimates 4–5 hours of play; this is a manufacturer estimate, not an independently measured battery test.
  • Other listed box contents: AC adapter, charge cable, user guide and HDMI cable.
  • Portability: Atari’s product page lists a pop-out stand for setting the handheld upright.

The published descriptions establish a built-in library, but do not establish that users can install arbitrary games. Atari says USB-C ports can connect external controllers, but its reviewed product information does not specify the full range of compatible controllers.

How the CES expectations compare with the later product

The core pitch remained consistent from the CES-era coverage through launch: a 7-inch screen, more than 200 games, HDMI, SmartGlow and the unusual mix of controls. The later launch announcement made Wi-Fi and the 4–5-hour battery estimate more explicit and put October 2025 retailer availability behind the product. Atari’s current official listing shows the product as available at $179.99, with shipping in 2–3 days when checked for this article; stock, price and delivery estimates can change. Price, availability and optional TV-play accessory

Atari’s product page lists the Gamestation Go at $179.99. That is the current listed price, not a guarantee that the price or stock will remain the same. For buyers considering TV or couch play, Atari also lists the Gamestation Gamepad as a popular add-on at $59.99. The gamepad is optional; the handheld includes its own controls and an HDMI cable for TV output.

Who the Gamestation Go is for

The device is best understood as a self-contained retro library with hardware tailored to games that use more than ordinary directional controls and face buttons. Its standout case is variety of inputs in a portable format; its trade-off is that the appeal depends on wanting its preloaded, licensed catalog. The official product information does not describe an open platform for adding any game a buyer chooses.

For a quick comparison with another retro handheld, focus on the actual differences that affect play: the Gamestation Go’s 200+ built-in games, paddle and trackball, keypad, 7-inch display, HDMI output and manufacturer-estimated battery life. Atari lists USB-C external-controller support, but not enough detail to assume a particular controller will work.
