Your route depends on character Leads and earlier choices, not just a final menu. If you want to see more than one outcome, keep a backup save before committing to consequential Leads or the finale.
How many endings does Atomfall have?
There are six major main-game routes under the clearest reader-facing count: Operator, Sims, Garrow, Joyce Tanner, Mother Jago, and Holder. Some guides count small epilogue variations differently, so this is a count of the six named routes, not every variation in how an ending may play out.

The routes differ in what happens to Oberon and who escapes with you. The telephone, Sims, and Joyce routes destroy Oberon; Jago’s route stimulates its growth; Holder’s route poisons it; and Garrow’s route takes a sample as part of her GEN ERA plan. Sims’s outcome is distinct: Operation Atomfall evacuates Protocol while nuking the quarantine zone.
What to do before choosing a route
Unlock Oberon’s endgame
The shared endgame gate is the Interchange. Unlock its doors in Slatten Dale, Wyndham Village, Casterfell Woods, and Skethermoor. In the Interchange, activate the central processor with the battery found there, then power Data Stores Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta using four atomic batteries. Use a Signal Redirector at the junction boxes to route power to the central processor, then pull the processor lever to reach Oberon and its endgame decision space. Know that routes can lock one another out
There is no final-choice menu that reliably preserves every ending. Character Leads and prior actions can close other routes before the finale; Push Square specifically warns that helping one character can fail another character’s Leads. To explore multiple outcomes, make a backup save before a major character commitment or the final sequence. This is a precaution based on documented route lockouts, not a guarantee that every pair of endings is mutually exclusive. Push Square’s guide explains the Lead-based conflicts.
The six Atomfall endings
1. Operator / telephone — destroy Oberon and return to Bunker L8
At Oberon’s dig site, rearm the four explosives and pull the self-destruct console lever. Escape through the Interchange, then follow the telephone instruction to return to Bunker L8 in Slatten Dale, the starting bunker. This is the simplest route once the Interchange is powered. The caller’s identity and purpose remain unresolved; theories about who is calling are not confirmed story facts. PC Gamer’s walkthrough describes the route.

2. Captain Sims — Operation Atomfall
Build Captain Sims’s trust in Wyndham Village by reporting suspicious activity, then recover his Protocol Radio Part from the Speaking Cave in Casterfell Woods. At Oberon, rearm the explosives and pull the self-destruct lever. Follow the note or diary instruction to Skethermoor Protocol Camp, where Sims offers escape by helicopter. His route carries out Operation Atomfall: Protocol evacuates while the quarantine zone is nuked, killing its inhabitants. PC Gamer notes that freeing Dr. Garrow during Sims’s prison-related step may be possible without losing Sims if you lie to him afterward; treat that as a guide-specific route detail, not a universal guarantee. 3. Dr. Garrow — Back Door / GEN ERA
Free Dr. Garrow from Skethermoor Prison and return her Robotics research notes. At the Casterfell Dam Data Store, run the GEN ERA command. Return to Garrow, reach Oberon, collect a sample from the Control Room, and return to escape through a secret tunnel. The command matters: GEN ERA is Garrow’s route, while GEN MOVE belongs to Joyce Tanner. PC Gamer and Push Square distinguish the two.

4. Joyce Tanner — Emergency Extraction / GEN MOVE
Meet Joyce at the remote bunker and pursue her Leads. At the Casterfell Dam Data Store, run GEN MOVE, then activate the three radio towers with their keycards. Reach Oberon and take a sample, destroy Oberon, then find Joyce’s extraction message in Data Store Charlie. Follow its coordinates to her plane. This route shares the Data Store with Garrow’s plan, but the commands and objectives are different: GEN MOVE for Joyce, GEN ERA for Garrow. PC Gamer and Push Square outline the route.
5. Mother Jago — At One with the Soil
Meet Mother Jago in Casterfell Woods and recover her book from the Castle Ruins. Follow her instructions at the Speaking Cave, then retrieve the Growth Stimulant from the Interchange Medical Tunnels. At Oberon’s dig site, put the stimulant into the Fire Safety Fluid Input and operate the fire-safety system. Return to the underground pit at the Castle Ruins. Rather than destroying Oberon, this route feeds it the stimulant and causes it to grow. PC Gamer and Push Square describe the steps.

6. Dr. Holder — Oubliette
Find the Church Cellar Key in the Interchange Medical section and meet Dr. Holder in the basement of St. Katherine’s Church. Retrieve Sample One, return it to him, and complete the steps that produce Poisoned Sample One. At Oberon, insert the poisoned canister into the Fire Safety Fluid Input and activate the system; then find Holder in the Medical Tunnels to escape.
Important conflict with Garrow: PC Gamer says that if you have freed Garrow, telling Holder where she is leads him to kill her before providing the poisoned sample. Holder and Garrow therefore cannot always be completed cleanly in one continuous run. PC Gamer and Push Square describe Holder’s route.

Which ending is canon?
Rebellion has not declared a canon ending. In an interview, a Rebellion senior programmer said, “It is entirely up to the player which ending they choose to believe is ‘canon’.” The choice is yours; the game’s routes do not establish one official outcome.
Will an ending affect The Red Strain or Wicked Isle?
Rebellion’s Atomfall Help Centre currently warns that a save in which you have achieved an ending cannot access either expansion, The Red Strain or Wicked Isle. If you plan to play those expansions, preserve a suitable pre-ending save and check the current platform-specific instructions in Rebellion Support, since support guidance can change.
