Choose your approach before engaging
Atomfall is a survival-action game set in a fictional quarantine zone in an alternate-history version of northwest England. Xbox Wire describes encounters as a choice: assess what an enemy carries, then consider combat, a silent takedown, or slipping away. A no-kill completion is possible, but Xbox calls it “extremely challenging.” Epic’s guide also notes that trespassing and faction territory can affect whether people engage you. Difficulty presets change the challenge of combat, survival, and exploration. Xbox lists Sightseer, Investigator, Brawler, Survivor, and Veteran, and says settings can be adjusted later in Options. A tactic that leaves room for error on one preset may be much less forgiving on another. (Xbox Wire)

The following overview reflects the enemy descriptions and tactics in Blast.tv’s base-game guide. Loadouts and behavior should be treated as general patterns, not guarantees for every individual or difficulty setting. “Stealth or retreat” describes a practical option, not a claim that every encounter can be bypassed safely.

How to handle human factions
Outlaws, Druids, and Protocol soldiers are not interchangeable. Their usual weapons and locations shape the risk of an encounter, but individual equipment can vary. Observe first: a bow or gun changes the danger of approaching, while a Stun Stick or melee weapon makes distance and escape routes important.
Against groups
Blast.tv recommends prioritizing ranged enemies and using throwables to thin groups. Its guide also distinguishes helmeted from unhelmeted opponents when discussing headshots. Treat both as tactical suggestions rather than a guaranteed one-hit result: equipment, difficulty, and the situation can change how an attack plays out.

When fighting is not worthwhile
If a faction is on its own territory or you are trespassing, consider whether the encounter is avoidable before spending scarce ammunition. A silent takedown, a route around the group, or a retreat may preserve supplies for a threat that blocks progress. Xbox’s no-kill guidance is clear that completing the game without kills is possible but extremely challenging, so stealth is an option rather than a promise of a risk-free run. Swarm and environmental hazards
Swarm encounters are not all the same. The base-game guide says leeches in water can cause bleeding, bees may be provoked rather than immediately aggressive, and rat swarms can poison you and continue appearing until you deal with their nest. Those differences matter: avoid the water hazard, do not needlessly provoke bees, and seek the source of repeated rats instead of spending resources on wave after wave. These are guide-reported behaviors, not independently tested mechanics.

The same guide mentions two radioactive plants but does not identify them or provide dependable tactics for each. It would be misleading to assign them names, status effects, or a universal counter. Treat an unfamiliar plant as a hazard and avoid contact when the route allows.

Ferals
Ferals are described as fast rushers, making a melee-first approach hazardous. The guide recommends stealth or ranged attacks. It also identifies a later ranged Feral that spits radioactive material, so do not assume every Feral has to close distance before it can threaten you.

Thralls
Thralls are described as slow but durable. Blast.tv’s suggested approach is to use patient heavy melee attacks while retreating, conserving ammunition. Since this recommendation comes from a secondary guide and combat difficulty varies by preset, use it as an option rather than a guaranteed low-risk method. (Blast.tv)
B.A.R.D. robots and their weak points
The base-game guide distinguishes a machine-gun robot from a flamethrower model. The machine-gun type calls for cover and careful shots at its head: damage the glass area until circuitry is exposed, then continue targeting that circuitry. The guide says to remove its atomic battery when it overheats, but warns that overheating is temporary. Against the flamethrower type, remain outside its shorter weapon range and aim for the fuel cans on its back when you can do so safely. What changes in the story expansions?
This is a base-game guide, not a verified all-content roster. The Red Strain, announced on September 16, 2025, adds the Scafell Crag region and new enemies. Published coverage names contaminated humans, contaminated Thralls and Ferals, contaminated swarms, drone swarms, and advanced robotic units, but does not establish a complete list or dependable tactical entry for each. Wicked Isle also adds a location and enemies, but the available coverage does not establish its exhaustive roster. Do not treat the base-game table above as a complete list for either expansion.
