Rebellion announced Atomfall for March 27, 2025, with day-one availability on Game Pass. The game has since launched. It is a single-player survival-action mystery set in a fictional quarantine zone in Northern England, and Rebellion’s current support list includes Xbox, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
What Rebellion announced for Atomfall
In a November 14, 2024 announcement, Rebellion Associate Head of Design Ben Fisher set the release date for March 27, 2025. The announcement named Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC, and confirmed the game would arrive on Game Pass on day one. Fisher put the news plainly: “Today we have announced that Atomfall will launch on March 27, 2025.” That was the release plan at announcement, not a statement of the game’s present availability.
What Atomfall is
Atomfall is a single-player survival-action mystery set in 1962, five years after the Windscale nuclear disaster. Its story takes place in a fictional quarantine zone in Northern England; the game is a fictionalized reimagining, not a depiction of the real disaster as though its events and the game’s plot were equivalent. Rebellion’s gameplay overview describes exploration across countryside, villages, camps, caves, tunnels, and abandoned facilities.

Investigation and choice drive progression. The “Leads” system turns clues into optional investigations, letting players decide which threads to pursue rather than follow one mandatory route through the mystery. The official PlayStation description likewise highlights conversation, investigation, exploration, and combat, with choices shaping the player’s path.
Survival and combat
Resources are scarce, and trade works by barter. Players scavenge and craft, while a metal detector can help locate scrap, medical supplies, ammunition, and other items. Combat combines ranged weapons with melee fighting. Together, these systems make preparation and decisions about what to investigate part of the survival challenge.

Which platforms is Atomfall available on?
Rebellion’s current support page lists Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Windows PC (including Game Pass), Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. This is broader than the platform list in the November 2024 release announcement, which named Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC. Edition names and contents differ by platform and store listing. Official current listings include platform-specific PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 editions, plus Complete Editions on PlayStation and Xbox. The Complete Edition listings include the base game, both story expansions—Wicked Isle and The Red Strain—and both supply bundles.

What really happened at Windscale?
The game uses a fictionalized premise inspired by the aftermath of the Windscale nuclear disaster. Its quarantine-zone story should not be read as a factual account of the real event. Rebellion’s description establishes the game’s setting and premise; it does not make the fictional plot equivalent to the historical disaster.
