Augur is an Ethereum-based protocol for prediction markets and decentralized event resolution, but it is not currently available as a relaunched Augur-native trading app. Its 2026 Moon Fork completed the protocol’s first end-to-end fork on Ethereum mainnet, and the project says its next iteration will build on the resulting REPv2_Yes_1 token.
What is Augur?
Augur is a decentralized protocol designed to let people create markets about future events, trade shares tied to possible outcomes, and resolve those markets through an on-chain reporting process. Its v2 design assigns distinct roles to traders and REP holders: traders buy and sell outcome shares, while REP holders report and dispute what happened. REP is used for reporting, not as the market’s trading share.
The distinction between a protocol and an app matters. A protocol can define how markets and disputes work without a consumer-facing interface being available to use those features.
Can you use Augur today?
Augur’s FAQ, reviewed October 4, 2026, answers: “Not as a new Augur-native prediction-market application: one has not yet relaunched.” The current site provides project updates and learning materials, not a trading interface. The FAQ describes work on oracle development and a future market protocol, with security and fee mechanisms still to be finalized. Historical v2 functionality should not be mistaken for present app availability.

How Augur v2 was designed to work
- Create a market: Anyone can create a market about an upcoming event, specifying an end time and a source for determining the result.
- Trade outcome shares: After creation, traders can trade shares representing possible outcomes of the event.
- Report and dispute: After the event, REP holders stake REP to report the observed outcome or dispute a report. Consensus among reporters determines the market outcome; stakes that do not align with consensus can be redistributed to reporters who do.
- Escalate to a fork if necessary: In the v2 design described by the whitepaper, a dispute bond reaching 2.5% of theoretical REP triggers the fork state. That threshold is part of the protocol design, not a routine settlement step.
A fork creates outcome-specific universes. REP holders migrate their tokens one way into the universe they believe represents the correct outcome. The whitepaper presents this as a last-resort dispute mechanism rather than the normal way markets settle.
What happened in the 2026 Moon Fork?
The dispute concerned the market “Will the Artemis II Mission successfully liftoff in the first week of April?” Augur’s project report says the public dispute process began April 8, 2026. The protocol split into outcome-specific universes, and the Yes universe won. Augur described the event as the first full end-to-end run of v2’s forking mechanism on Ethereum mainnet.

The migration period closed on August 3, 2026. The Moon Fork case study records final contract observations at Ethereum mainnet block 25,677,103 and identifies Yes as the winning child universe. It reports 6,398,081.4136814946108694 REP migrated to Yes and 1,786.227400866527400056 REP to No, using the child-token getTotalMigrated() counters at that block.
Why published migration figures differ
Augur’s October 1, 2026 quarterly report gives rounded migration-counter figures of 6,398,081.41 REP to Yes and 1,786.23 REP to No, or 6,399,867.64 REP migrated in total. Separately, its August 5 completion announcement reports 6,547,546.66 REP migrated across universes, including 6,545,760.43 REP to Yes and 1,786.23 REP to No. The case study warns that token total supply is not interchangeable with the dedicated migration counter: its reported REPv2_Yes_1 total supply is 6,545,760.43 REP, and an earlier snapshot showed a 147,679.019985211005520574 REP difference between a total-supply proxy and the migration counter.

These are project and case-study figures, not counts of people. The on-chain records do not establish the number of individual participants or how much REP was self-custodied versus handled by exchanges. Keep the metric and reporting source attached to any quoted figure rather than treating the numbers as interchangeable.
Which REP token is current after the fork?
Augur says the next iteration will build on REPv2_Yes_1, the token of the winning Yes universe. Kraken uses AUGUR as the ticker for this token; its on-chain name is REPv2_Yes_1. For identification, Augur’s FAQ gives the Ethereum contract address 0xCf6A0A7826fa124B7705d6f3c675eAD76f1e540D.

Wallets may not detect the new token automatically. Augur’s FAQ explains that it may need to be imported as a custom token. If you are checking or importing a token, verify its details against Augur’s official reference rather than relying on a ticker or a message offering help. Token support and exchange availability can vary by platform and jurisdiction.

Augur’s FAQ says the migration period cannot be reopened. It also warns that offers to migrate or recover REP after the deadline are scams. Augur expects REP left in the parent universe to be worthless because future development is focused on REPv2_Yes_1; that is the project’s stated expectation, not a prediction of market price. Do not share keys, seed phrases, or wallet access with anyone claiming they can recover unmigrated REP.

What is Augur building now?
In its October 1, 2026 report, the Lituus Foundation said work was underway on Augur Lituus with ChainSafe, including core oracle functions and further development of contested answers and dispute and fork processes. The report also describes support for independent Dark Florist oracle work, alongside efforts to improve recognition of the new token by exchanges, wallets, explorers, portfolio trackers, decentralized-exchange interfaces, and market-data platforms.
These are project-reported development activities, not evidence that a consumer market app has relaunched. The Foundation summarized its post-migration focus this way: “Now that migration is closed, our focus is back on the larger goal: building oracle infrastructure for establishing truth onchain.”
What Augur’s fork does—and does not—show
The Moon Fork demonstrates that Augur’s v2 fork mechanism completed an on-chain run and selected a winning universe in a real dispute. It does not, by itself, establish current trading activity, adoption, or the availability of a new market interface. The sources reviewed provide no independent current-activity statistic for Augur, so historical volume figures should not be presented as evidence of present use.
