If autocorrectdll.dll is missing, Windows usually cannot start the older third-party application that installed it. The safest fix is to identify that parent program and repair or reinstall it, rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
What this file actually does
autocorrectdll.dll is described as the AutoCorrect ActiveX Control Module, associated with POLAR. It is an application file, not a standard Windows component, Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, or normal Windows AutoCorrect file.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Public file metadata also associates the component with the alternate name AUTOCORRECT.OCX. That suggests it may be an older 32-bit ActiveX or COM component used by a language, translation, spelling, or document-related application. Public metadata describes it as Win32, but this identification is not confirmed by a current POLAR installer.

Common reported messages include:
- “This application failed to start because autocorrectdll.dll was not found.”
- “The file autocorrectdll.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: autocorrectdll.dll. Please install the application again.”
- “Error loading autocorrectdll.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The program can’t start because autocorrectdll.dll is missing from your computer.”

These messages point to an application-loading problem. They do not, by themselves, prove that Windows is damaged.
Causes and symptoms
| What you see | Most likely cause | Best response |
|---|---|---|
| The error appears when opening one old program | The application installation is incomplete or damaged | Repair or reinstall that program |
| The message began after cleanup software ran | The DLL was deleted from the application folder | Restore the application through its installer |
| The error appeared after antivirus detection | Windows Security quarantined the file | Review Protection history before restoring anything |
| The program starts but reports an ActiveX or registration error | The component is present but not registered correctly | Reinstall first, then conditionally use 32-bit regsvr32 |
| A startup pop-up appears after uninstalling the program | A leftover shortcut, service, or startup entry still calls the removed program | Remove the orphaned startup entry or reinstall and uninstall cleanly |
| Several unrelated programs fail with different DLL names | A broader Windows or runtime issue may exist | Check the named dependency, Windows components, or the affected applications |
| SFC or DISM finds problems but the original app still fails | Windows repair did not restore this third-party file | Repair or reinstall the owning application |
1. Identify the program requesting the DLL
Do this before replacing anything. The filename alone does not establish which application owns it.
Check the error window
Read the title bar and the text around the error. The window may name the executable or product. Note the program that was being launched, including whether the error appeared when opening a translator, spell checker, document utility, or older office-related program.
If the error appears immediately after signing in, the application may be configured to start with Windows even though its main shortcut is no longer visible.
Search installed applications
On Windows 11:
- Select Start.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for the program you were opening when the message appeared.
- Also search for names related to translation, spelling, autocorrection, or POLAR.
- Select the three-dot menu beside a likely match.
On Windows 10:
- Select Start.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Apps & features.
- Review the installed list for the application that produces the error.
PC Translator 2004 Komplet is one documented association, but do not assume it is the owner without matching the installed program or its folder.
Inspect application folders
Right-click the program’s shortcut and select Properties. On the Shortcut tab, check Target. Select Open File Location if available.
Look for autocorrectdll.dll in the program’s own installation directory. A missing file in that folder is strong evidence that the application installation is incomplete. Do not move another DLL into the folder yet.

Use File Explorer’s search box for autocorrectdll.dll if necessary. Record the path of any copy you find. An application-local location is more useful than a copy found in a generic Windows directory.
Check startup entries
If no program is open when the message appears:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps on Windows 11, or the Startup tab on Windows 10.
- Look for the old translation, spelling, or document application.
- Right-click the entry and choose Open file location if available.
- Note the executable name and folder.
You can also open Settings > Apps > Startup and review the same type of entries.
Use Event Viewer for the executable name
If the error is vague:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
eventvwr.msc. - Press Enter.
- Expand Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Look for an Error recorded at the time of the failure.
- Open the event and note Faulting application name and Faulting module name.
Event Viewer may identify the executable that attempted to load the DLL. It does not prove that the named module is the only damaged component, so use it as an identification aid.
2. Repair the owning application
Repair is the safest first fix when the parent program is still installed.
Try Windows’ Repair option
On Windows 11:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the affected program.
- Select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options, if shown.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
On Windows 10:
- Open Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
Traditional desktop programs may not provide this option. If Repair is absent, open the application’s original installer and look for Repair, Modify, Change, Maintenance, or Scan and repair.
A successful repair normally allows the application to start without the DLL message. If the error remains, restart Windows once and test again before moving to a full reinstall.
3. Reinstall the original application
If repair is unavailable or unsuccessful, reinstall the program from its original media, a legitimate installation backup, or the publisher’s official source.
Before uninstalling, save any application-specific documents, templates, dictionaries, or settings you need.

- Select the affected program.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the program’s removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer as an administrator.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation.
- Start the program and test the operation that previously failed.
If the program is on installation media, copy the installer to a local folder first and run it from there. Do not interrupt the installation if it asks to install an ActiveX or spelling component.
If the old program is no longer available from a legitimate source, do not substitute a DLL from a download repository. Without the original installer, the correct file, registration data, and dependent components may all be missing.
4. Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an application file. Do not restore it automatically, because restoring a malicious file can expose the computer.
To inspect Microsoft Defender’s record:
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the application.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review detections from the time the problem began.
- Open a relevant detection and read its path and action.
Restore or allow the file only when all of the following are true:
- The file was in the legitimate application’s installation folder.
- The application came from a trusted, legitimate installer.
- The detection does not identify the file as malicious.
- You have scanned the computer and confirmed the application source.
If the file was found in a temporary download folder, an unknown archive, or an unexpected system directory, leave it quarantined and remove the suspicious software. Reinstall the legitimate parent application instead.
5. Handle the possible 32-bit ActiveX registration
Registration is not the default fix. It applies only when the file is present, the parent application is known, and the error specifically indicates an ActiveX, COM, or registration problem.
regsvr32 works only with a DLL that provides the required registration entry point, such as DllRegisterServer. It does not make every DLL usable.
A 32-bit application must load a compatible 32-bit component. On 64-bit Windows, use the 32-bit registrar from SysWOW64, not the ordinary 64-bit registrar:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Confirm the DLL’s path inside the legitimate application folder.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command, replacing the path with the actual location:
%windir%SysWOW64regsvr32.exe "C:PathToautocorrectdll.dll"
- Press Enter.
- Start the application again.
If Windows reports that registration succeeded, test the affected feature. If it reports that the entry point was not found, the file is not self-registering, is the wrong file, or does not belong to that application. Do not keep trying different regsvr32 commands. Reinstall the parent program.
On 32-bit Windows, the available registrar is normally:
%windir%System32regsvr32.exe "C:PathToautocorrectdll.dll"
Do not copy the file to C:WindowsSystem32. System32 is not a universal DLL drop location, and application-local loading and separate 32-bit and 64-bit registry views can affect how the component works.
6. Repair Windows components only when symptoms support it
SFC and DISM repair Windows components and protected system files. They are unlikely to restore this third-party application DLL, but they can help when the error is accompanied by wider Windows corruption or other system-component failures.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- Open Settings.

- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart if requested.
Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the original application.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. A message saying that repairs were completed means Windows found and addressed system issues, not that autocorrectdll.dll has been restored. If the program still reports the same missing file, return to the application repair or reinstall steps.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM will not replace a missing third-party DLL. If you want a guided scan while working through system repair, Outbyte PC Repair can show what it identifies; its repair functions require the full version, and reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix for this file.
7. Check drivers only when the error names a driver
autocorrectdll.dll is an application component, so Device Manager is not normally the right place to repair it. Use Device Manager only if the same incident includes a separate device or driver error.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the affected device.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
For a device that stopped working after an update, open its Properties, select the Driver tab, and use Roll Back Driver only when that option is available and the timing clearly matches the problem.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.8. Do not install unrelated Windows Features or runtimes
Windows Features are not a general solution for autocorrectdll.dll. Do not enable random legacy features merely because the file is old.
If the error separately names a Windows feature:
- Open Start.
- Type Turn Windows features on or off.
- Open the matching Control Panel result.
- Select only the feature identified by the application’s documentation.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if asked.
Likewise, do not install a Visual C++ Redistributable solely because a DLL error exists. No established evidence connects autocorrectdll.dll to a particular Microsoft redistributable. Install a Microsoft runtime only when another error specifically names a dependency such as VCRUNTIME140.dll or MSVCP*.dll, and obtain it from Microsoft’s official download documentation.
9. Use System Restore only as a last resort
System Restore can help when the error clearly began immediately after installing, updating, or removing software and a suitable restore point exists.

System Restore affects system files, settings, applications, and drivers changed after the restore point, but not personal files. If the parent application was removed completely, reinstalling it is usually more direct than restoring Windows.
Why random DLL downloads are unsafe
Do not download autocorrectdll.dll from a random DLL repository and copy it into System32. That approach can fail because:
- The file may contain malware.
- It may be the wrong architecture.
- It may be a different build from the one the application expects.
- It may be unsigned or modified.
- It may require other files that are also missing.
- It may need application-specific registration.
- It does not repair a damaged installation or leftover startup entry.
There is no authoritative current standalone POLAR download or supported redistributable identified for this exact file. The safe source is the original application installer from the publisher or legitimate installation media. If you cannot verify the source, do not use the file.
If you already downloaded a suspicious copy, do not register it. Delete it or submit it to your security software for inspection, run a full Windows Security scan, and reinstall the parent application from a trusted source.

If the program still will not start
Collect the following before contacting the application publisher:
- The exact error text
- The application name and executable path
- The folder where the application is installed
- Whether
autocorrectdll.dllis present - The result of the repair or reinstall
- Any Windows Security detection and file path
- The Event Viewer application error
- Whether the program is old 32-bit software running on 64-bit Windows
If the error appears at every startup after the program was removed, inspect Task Manager > Startup apps and Settings > Apps > Startup. Disable only the entry that clearly belongs to the removed application. If you cannot identify it, reinstall the original program and remove it through its own uninstaller.
FAQ
Is autocorrectdll.dll a Windows system file?
No evidence supports that. It is described as a POLAR application component named AutoCorrect ActiveX Control Module.
Which program installs it?
PC Translator 2004 Komplet is one documented association. It is not confirmed as the only application that used the file, so identify the requesting executable and installation folder on your computer.
Should I copy it into System32?
No. The application may require the file in its own directory, and a 32-bit program has different loading and registry requirements from a 64-bit program.
Do I need to register the DLL?
Only when the file belongs to the confirmed application and the error specifically concerns ActiveX or COM registration. Reinstall first. On 64-bit Windows, a confirmed 32-bit component normally uses the SysWOW64 version of regsvr32.
Will SFC restore autocorrectdll.dll?
No. SFC repairs protected Windows files, not this third-party application file. It may still help with a separate Windows corruption problem.
Can I fix the error by installing Visual C++?
Not based on this filename alone. Install a runtime only when a separate error identifies a specific Microsoft runtime dependency.
Recommended Free Tools
What if the original application is no longer available?
Do not use an arbitrary DLL download. Look for legitimate installation media, an official publisher source, or supported replacement software. An unsigned or unverified copy should not be registered.
