“ The program can’t start because autodll.dll is missing from your computer.” The autodll.dll error usually means that a third-party application cannot find one of its own files.
Do not download a replacement DLL into System32. autodll.dll is not a standardized Windows component, and the filename has been used by unrelated software.

Which fix applies to you
Choose the situation that matches your error:
- You know which program shows the message: Repair or reinstall that program first.
- The message names a game: Use the launcher’s file-verification feature, then reinstall the game if verification fails.
- The error appeared after antivirus activity: Check Windows Security Protection history before restoring anything.
- You found
autodll.dllin an application folder: Verify its publisher and hash, then repair the application that owns that folder. - You found it in
System32,SysWOW64, a temporary folder or a browser-download folder: Treat the copy as suspicious and scan it. - Several programs fail, or Windows itself is unstable: Check Windows components with DISM and SFC.
- The error remains after a reinstall: Investigate missing dependencies, architecture mismatches or DLL hijacking.
What is autodll.dll
There is no verified Microsoft Windows version of autodll.dll. It is not established as a Windows system DLL, DirectX file, .NET component, standard driver or Microsoft Visual C++ runtime.
Older Glary Utilities packages are associated with copies in application directories, including paths similar to:

C:Program Files (x86)Glary Utilities 5autodll.dll
A separate process database associates the name with an IMSI Product Registration Wizard, but that record is not a vendor-confirmed identification. The filename is therefore ambiguous. The correct copy depends on the executable requesting it.
Public file records also disagree about the file’s metadata, including its size and other identifying details. That means there is no single public copy that can safely be treated as the universal version.
Typical indexed messages include:
- “There was a problem starting autodll.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Error loading autodll.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because autodll.dll was not found.”
- “autodll.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
These are generic DLL error formats. They do not identify the original application by themselves.
Step 1: Identify the application and full path
The error dialog may show the program name. If it does, write it down before closing the message. Also note whether the error appears when launching a utility, game, installer, startup item or registration window.
Next, search the usual locations with PowerShell:
- Press Start.
- Type PowerShell.
- Right-click Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator.
- Copy and run this command:
Get-ChildItem -Path $env:ProgramFiles,${env:ProgramFiles(x86)},$env:WINDIR `
-Filter autodll.dll -File -Recurse -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue |
Select-Object FullName,Length,LastWriteTime
Review the FullName result.
A location inside a named application’s folder is useful evidence. For example, a Glary Utilities directory is consistent with the available public package evidence. A file in System32, SysWOW64, a temporary directory or a download directory needs more scrutiny.
For each discovered copy, check its signature and hash:
Get-AuthenticodeSignature "C:pathautodll.dll"
Get-FileHash "C:pathautodll.dll" -Algorithm SHA256
Replace the sample path with the actual path. A valid signature from the expected software publisher is reassuring, but an unsigned file is not automatically malware. The path, owning executable and antivirus history must be considered together.
Windows searches application and system directories when loading DLLs. It can also fail because a dependency used by autodll.dll is missing, even when autodll.dll itself exists. Microsoft documents this behavior in its DLL search order documentation.

Step 2: Repair the application that owns the file
Repairing the owning application is the safest first fix.
Use Windows’ built-in repair option
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the application named in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu on Windows 11, or select the application on Windows 10.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
If Repair is unavailable or does not help, return to the same screen and select Reset only if you understand that the application may lose its settings or local data.
Some desktop programs do not expose these controls. In that case:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Right-click the affected program.
- Choose Repair or Change, if offered.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the program.
Reinstall from the vendor
If repair fails, uninstall the application and install it again using the developer’s official installer or launcher. Do not copy autodll.dll from another computer or another product.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor older Glary Utilities installations, use the official Glary installer rather than a standalone DLL. For an IMSI-related error, identify the specific IMSI product, such as TurboCAD, DesignCAD or FloorPlan, and use that product’s supplied installer or official support process.
Before uninstalling, export settings or save project files if the application stores them locally. After reinstalling, confirm that the program starts without the error. If the same message returns immediately, continue to the antivirus and dependency checks below.
Step 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may have removed or quarantined a damaged, modified or suspicious copy.
- Open Start and type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving
autodll.dllor the affected application. - Open an entry to view its path and detection details.
Prefer reinstalling the affected program from its official source instead of restoring a quarantined DLL. Restore the file only when you have verified the path, publisher and application origin and are confident that the detection is a false positive.

A malware record has included a path resembling Glary Utilitiesautodll.dll among files modified or created by a Trojan sample. This does not prove that every file with this name is malicious, but it does make blind restoration unsafe.
If the path is unexpected:
- Leave the file quarantined.
- Update Microsoft Defender security intelligence.
- Return to Virus & threat protection.
- Select Scan options.
- Run Full scan.
- If suspicious behavior continues, run Microsoft Defender Offline scan.
Microsoft explains how to review Protection history and use virus and threat protection.
Step 4: Verify game files if a game shows the error
If a game launcher reports the error, do not use a general DLL download. Use the launcher’s repair function.
For Epic Games Launcher:
- Open Epic Games Launcher.
- Select Library.
- Find the game.
- Select the three dots beside the game.
- Select Manage.
- Select Verify.
- Wait for the scan to finish.
- Launch the game again.
Verification replaces damaged or missing files that belong to that game. If it reports no problem but the error remains, uninstall and reinstall the game from the same official launcher.

A 32-bit application normally requires its 32-bit companion files and dependencies. A 64-bit application requires the vendor’s compatible 64-bit package. Do not assume that a file found in either System32 or SysWOW64 is interchangeable.
To identify the failing program’s architecture, check the application’s documentation or ask its vendor. You can also inspect the executable with a trusted system or development utility, but do not replace files based only on a filename.

Public records for autodll.dll describe 32-bit samples, but they do not establish one universal supported build or prove that every application using the name needs a 32-bit file. If reinstalling the correct application still fails, the missing item may be a dependency rather than autodll.dll itself. Microsoft describes this type of module-load failure in its DLL troubleshooting guidance.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX or .NET automatically just because a DLL error appears. Install a runtime only when the application’s own installer or error message identifies it. If Visual C++ is specifically required, its architecture must match the application.

Step 6: Repair Windows components only when Windows is also damaged
SFC is not expected to recreate a third-party application DLL. Use Windows repair commands when several Windows features are failing, system files are damaged, or the application’s installer itself cannot run.
- Save your work.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its system file repair procedure.
DISM and SFC may report that they repaired Windows components, but that does not confirm that autodll.dll was restored. If the application still reports the error, repair or reinstall the application instead.
Repeatedly hunting through command output and rerunning SFC or DISM without knowing what changed can be time-consuming. Outbyte PC Repair offers a free scan that shows what it identifies, while repair is performed by the full version; it is optional, and reinstalling the program that owns autodll.dll remains the definitive fix.

- Press Windows + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart if requested.
Use Microsoft’s Windows Update instructions if the update screen reports an error.
Step 7: Check drivers only when the error points to one
autodll.dll is not identified as a standard driver DLL. Do not use Device Manager as the first repair method unless the application also reports a graphics, audio, storage or other device problem.
To check:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the device category related to the application’s failure.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Check the driver status and version.
- Use Update Driver only with a driver supplied by Windows Update or the hardware manufacturer’s official support page.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
If the failure began immediately after a driver change, select Roll Back Driver when that button is available. Do not replace autodll.dll with a driver file.
Finding the correct driver manually can mean checking hardware identifiers, Windows compatibility and several manufacturer packages. Outbyte Driver Updater provides a free scan showing which drivers it identifies, while driver installation is handled by the full version; it is optional, and it will not replace the need to reinstall the application that owns autodll.dll.
Step 8: Use System Restore for a recent change
If the problem began immediately after an application, driver or system change, System Restore may return Windows settings and installed programs to an earlier restore point without normally affecting personal files.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Let Windows restart.
Use System Restore only after saving current work and understanding which programs may be removed or rolled back. Microsoft provides additional System Restore guidance.
Why downloading autodll.dll is unsafe
Random DLL download sites cannot reliably tell you which product owns your copy. A downloaded file may have:
- The wrong architecture
- The wrong product build
- Missing dependencies
- Altered or malicious contents
- A different publisher from the original application
Copying it into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 can also create DLL search-order and security problems. It often hides the real issue rather than repairing the application.

FAQ
Is autodll.dll part of Windows?
No verified evidence identifies it as a Microsoft Windows component. It appears to be an application file whose filename has been reused by third-party software.
Which program installs autodll.dll?
Older Glary Utilities builds are associated with it. A separate, non-vendor database reports an association with IMSI Product Registration Wizard. Neither association makes the filename unique for every computer.
Is autodll.dll malware?
Not automatically. However, a suspicious path, an unexpected signature or an antivirus detection requires scanning and investigation. Reinstalling the legitimate application is safer than restoring an unverified quarantine item.
Should I copy it into System32?
No. Repair the application that requests the file. Do not mix DLLs from different products.
Will SFC restore autodll.dll?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows system files, while autodll.dll is not verified as a Windows system component.
Why does the error remain after I find the file?
The failing executable may be using another copy, or one of autodll.dll‘s dependencies may be missing. Check the full path, verify the owning application and perform a clean reinstall of the correct architecture.
