The Avatar action RPG announced in October 2024 is reportedly no longer in production. Engadget reported the status on June 6, 2026, citing comments Paramount Games Studio executive Shawn Kittelsen made to IGN. The original announcement promised a new Avatar and story, but gave no release date or specific console list.
What was announced?
Paramount Game Studios and Saber Interactive announced the project in October 2024 in collaboration with Avatar Studios. It was described as an AAA action RPG for PC and consoles, set thousands of years in the past of the Avatar Legends universe and centered on a never-before-seen Avatar and a brand-new story. The announcement did not name a final game title or specific console models. GameSpot reported the announcement details.
Paramount’s Doug Rosen, then senior vice president of Games and Emerging Media, said gaming could expand the franchise’s world-building and let fans experience new content immersively. The companies also described the project as the “biggest video game in franchise history.” That was promotional language; the announcement provided no measurable comparison to support it.
Is the Avatar RPG canceled?
Engadget reported on June 6, 2026, that the game was no longer in production, relaying confirmation from IGN. Kittelsen, Paramount Games Studio’s senior vice president and head of creative and production, was quoted as saying: “That’s a project that wasn’t in production when we came in.” Engadget’s report also quoted him saying the status did not rule out a AAA Avatar game in the future, but that it might arrive “in a different iteration.”
