Yes. The Cabbage Merchant appears in Magic: The Gathering’s Avatar: The Last Airbender products in three distinct forms: a regular Jumpstart card, a separate five-card My Cabbages! Secret Lair drop, and a limited-time Standard Showdown event promo. “Joined Magic” describes the character’s arrival, not the name of a single product.
What is the regular Cabbage Merchant card?
Wizards of the Coast’s November 7, 2025 release notes identify The Cabbage Merchant as a green, 2/2 legendary creature — Human Citizen with a mana cost of {2}{G}. It appears in the Avatar Jumpstart product, whose official materials also include a Cabbages theme packet.
The card’s rules text revolves around Food tokens:
- Whenever an opponent casts a noncreature spell, The Cabbage Merchant creates a Food token.
- Whenever a creature deals combat damage to you, you sacrifice a Food token.
- You can tap two untapped Foods to add one mana of any color.
Wizards clarifies that a Food sacrificed by the damage-triggered ability does not cause you to gain life: it was not sacrificed using the Food token’s own ability. The card and the Cabbages packet are part of Jumpstart; neither is the Secret Lair drop.

What is the My Cabbages! Secret Lair?
Secret Lair x Avatar: The Last Airbender | My Cabbages! is a separate Secret Lair product, offered in foil and non-foil editions. The official US product listing names five cards in the drop:
- Chain of Vapor
- Meltdown
- Nature’s Claim
- Anguished Unmaking
- Putrefy
That list does not include The Cabbage Merchant: this is a themed five-card drop, not a product containing the regular Merchant card. Secret Lair’s listing describes the drop as “a tribute to every cry of ‘My cabbages!’ echoing through the Four Nations.” It says shipping begins November 19 and that the drop is available while supplies last; the listing alone does not establish current stock.

What was the Unlucky Cabbage Merchant promo?
Wizards’ October 29, 2025 event guide says the Avatar set released worldwide on November 21, 2025. At Standard Showdown events held from November 21, 2025, through January 15, 2026, the winner received an Unlucky Cabbage Merchant promo while supplies lasted. Non-foil copies were intended for most WPN retailers; traditional foil copies were intended for WPN Premium locations. That event window has ended.
How do the three appearances differ?
| Appearance | Format | What official sources establish |
|---|---|---|
| The Cabbage Merchant | Avatar Jumpstart card | Card identity and rules, plus inclusion in Jumpstart; the product materials list a Cabbages theme packet. |
| My Cabbages! | Secret Lair drop | Five named cards and foil and non-foil editions; it is separate from the Jumpstart card. |
| Unlucky Cabbage Merchant | Standard Showdown event promo | Historical event prize and distribution details for November 21, 2025–January 15, 2026. |
What should collectors check before buying?
Start with the specific appearance you want. For the regular Merchant card, look for the Avatar Jumpstart card; for the five-card themed Secret Lair, check the exact drop name and finish; for the promo, verify that a listing is for Unlucky Cabbage Merchant. The official product information establishes formats and contents, but not current third-party stock, prices, or retailer eligibility. Availability and asking prices can change, so confirm those details with the seller before purchasing.
