Do not copy it into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. A 64-bit version of Windows can run a 32-bit application, but a 64-bit application cannot use a 32-bit DLL as a substitute.

Error messages you may see
Windows may display one of these representative messages:
- “The program can’t start because avcmedia_free.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because avcmedia_free.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading avcmedia_free.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “avcmedia_free.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “The procedure entry point … could not be located in the dynamic link library avcmedia_free.dll.”
The wording matters. “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. Windows may be unable to find a dependency that avcmedia_free.dll needs.
Fix 1: Reinstall the affected Any Video Converter build
This is the most likely and safest repair because the DLL must match the rest of the AVC installation.

- Close Any Video Converter.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select any Any Video Converter or Anvsoft process that is still running.
- Choose End task.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for Any Video Converter.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it and choose Uninstall.
- Follow the uninstall wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Download Any Video Converter only from Anvsoft’s official AVC download page.
- Run the installer and launch the program after setup completes.
If the installer fails, Anvsoft’s installation guidance recommends trying its offline installer and running setup with administrator privileges. To do that, right-click the installer, choose Show more options, select Run as administrator, and approve the User Account Control prompt.
Test the same conversion or launch action that produced the error. If AVC starts and performs that operation, the missing-file problem is resolved.
For a complete removal of an older AVC installation
A normal uninstall can leave damaged settings or old application files behind. Anvsoft’s legacy removal instructions provide a more thorough route:
- Right-click the Any Video Converter shortcut and choose Open file location.
- Locate Uninstall Any Video Converter.exe.
- Run it.
- Select Delete software settings when offered.
- Select Uninstall AI components if that option appears.
- Complete the removal and restart Windows.
- Install the compatible official AVC edition again.
Do not assume the newest 64-bit installer will recreate an old 32-bit workflow. If an older project or conversion process specifically requires avcmedia_free.dll, locate the original legitimate installer or contact Anvsoft. Do not obtain the DLL by itself.

Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an application component after an update, cleanup, or change in detection rules.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Inspect recent detections.
- Look for an entry naming
avcmedia_free.dll, Any Video Converter, or the AVC installation directory. - Expand the entry and check the detected path, threat name, and source.
- If the file came from an official, trusted installer and the detection is demonstrably false, use the available restore or allow action.
- Reinstall AVC from Anvsoft if the file was removed.
Only restore a quarantined file when you have verified the installer and its provenance. Microsoft warns that allowing an unsafe file can expose the device. If Defender repeatedly quarantines the component, scan the installer and the computer, avoid creating a blind exclusion, and contact Anvsoft with the detection details.
Fix 3: Check for an architecture or generation mismatch
A 32-bit avcmedia_free.dll cannot be replaced with a similarly named 64-bit library. The following are not interchangeable:
avcmedia_free.dllavcmedia.dllavcmedia_pro.dll- A DLL copied from another AVC edition
- A DLL taken from a different computer
A mismatch can produce “not designed to run on Windows,” an entry-point error, or a failure that appears to be a missing file.
To check the installed program:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find Any Video Converter and note the installed edition and version if shown.
- Right-click the AVC shortcut and choose Open file location.
- Confirm that the executable and its DLLs are in the same application directory.
- Reinstall the matching AVC edition if the program was migrated from another computer or mixed with files from another release.
The current AVC Free download targets Windows 10 and Windows 11 64-bit systems. That does not prove that every current release uses this historical DLL, so an old installation may require its original compatible build.
Fix 4: Treat a dependency error as a complete-installation problem
A DLL can be present while one of its required supporting files is missing. This is common after a partial uninstall, failed update, disk cleanup, manual deletion, or antivirus action.
If avcmedia_free.dll is visible in the AVC folder but Windows still reports “The specified module could not be found,” do not download random supporting DLLs. Reinstall the complete application so its dependency set is restored together.

Also check whether the file is in the directory that contains the AVC executable. An application DLL normally loads from its own program folder. Moving it to a system folder can create a different mismatch and makes future repairs harder.

Install a runtime only when the AVC build or a specific dependency clearly requires it. Removing older Visual C++ packages indiscriminately can break other applications.
Fix 5: Repair damaged Windows components
Use this step when other Windows applications also fail, system files are corrupted, or the problem began after a broader system failure. It will not normally recreate a third-party AVC DLL.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test Any Video Converter again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. If both commands complete successfully but AVC still reports the same error, return to the official AVC reinstall rather than repeating these commands indefinitely.

Reinstalling Any Video Converter remains the definitive fix when this specific application DLL is missing.
Fix 6: Check drivers only if AVC fails during device or media access
A graphics, audio, or capture-device problem can cause AVC to fail during conversion, but a driver update is not a substitute for restoring avcmedia_free.dll.
Check Device Manager as follows:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, and any category containing the device used by AVC.
- Right-click a relevant device and choose Properties.
- Read the status under the General tab.
- Open the Driver tab and select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
If the issue began immediately after a driver update, open the same Driver tab and choose Roll Back Driver when available. If Device Manager reports no problem and AVC fails before opening, stop driver troubleshooting and repair AVC instead.

Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent system change
If the error began immediately after installing software, changing a driver, or making another system change, System Restore may return Windows configuration and installed programs to an earlier restore point without changing personal files.

- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the AVC failure.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point and select Finish.
- Restart and test AVC.
System Restore is not a replacement for reinstalling a damaged application. If no suitable restore point exists, use the official AVC installation path.

Do not download the DLL from a random DLL website
Standalone DLL sites may provide an old file with unknown provenance, the wrong architecture, an incompatible build, or missing dependencies. The file may also be modified or bundled with malware. Even a genuine copy often fails because the rest of the AVC installation is damaged.
Use Anvsoft’s official download page, the original legitimate installer for the required legacy edition, or Anvsoft support.
Do not copy it into System32
avcmedia_free.dll is an application-local component. Copying it into System32 or SysWOW64 does not repair the AVC installation and can cause Windows to load an incompatible copy.

Do not use regsvr32 as a universal DLL repair
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points, such as certain COM or OLE components. A transcoding library loaded privately by Any Video Converter normally does not need registration.
Running this command is generally not an appropriate fix:
regsvr32 avcmedia_free.dll
It may report that DllRegisterServer was not found or that a dependency could not be loaded. Reinstall the application instead.

Not as a replacement for this historical 32-bit application component. A 64-bit Windows installation can run a 32-bit AVC program, but the program still needs compatible 32-bit libraries.
Why is the file present but still reported as missing?
A dependent DLL may be absent, the file may be corrupted, or the installed AVC executable may belong to a different generation. Reinstall the complete matching AVC build.
Should I install Visual C++ Redistributable?
Not automatically. It is not a replacement for avcmedia_free.dll. Install it only when the application or a confirmed dependency specifically requires it.
What if the current installer does not contain this file?
That may be expected if the current AVC release uses a different architecture or component layout. If an old project requires this DLL, obtain the compatible original installer or contact Anvsoft rather than mixing files from unrelated releases.
