1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsavlf.dll is not identified as a Windows component, DirectX file, .NET file, or Microsoft runtime. The strongest public association is with the legacy Avanquest Convert Video application, so the safest fix is to identify the program requesting the file and repair or reinstall that program rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
What avlf.dll belongs to
Public software inventory data associates AVLF.dll with Avanquest Convert Video. The related executable is listed as movie to mobile.exe, and the historical application directory is:

C:Program FilesAvanquestAvanquest Convert Video
This is a software-inventory association, not a surviving technical document from Avanquest. Current Avanquest support does not provide a verified standalone avlf.dll download or a current Convert Video installer.
Do not assume that every avlf.dll error comes from Avanquest Convert Video. The same filename may appear in another application, an old backup, or an unsafe file placed by malware. The executable name and requested path in your error are more useful than the DLL filename alone.

Identify the program before repairing Windows
Start by recording exactly what Windows reports.
- Reproduce the error.
- Copy the complete message, including the application name and path.
- Note whether it appears when launching a program, signing in to Windows, opening a document, or shutting down.
- Check whether the message says the file is missing, a procedure entry point is unavailable, the module could not be loaded, or the file is not designed to run on Windows.
- Record the requested location, if Windows shows one.
Typical catalogued messages include “The program can’t start because avlf.dll is missing from your computer” and “The code execution cannot proceed because avlf.dll was not found.” These are generic DLL error formats, not confirmed screenshots from a particular Avanquest release.
The wording matters. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that avlf.dll exists but one of its dependent DLLs is missing. An invalid entry point can indicate a mismatched version. A message about an invalid binary can indicate the wrong architecture or a damaged file.
Check the application path
If the error appears while launching a desktop application:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Read the Target field.
- Select Open File Location, if available.
- Look for the application directory and any surviving copy of
avlf.dll.
If the application is no longer installed but the message appears at sign-in, inspect startup entries:
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Startup apps.
- Look for an entry belonging to the removed application.
- Right-click it and choose Disable.
- Restart Windows.
For older startup references, press Win + R, enter shell:startup, and remove only a shortcut that clearly belongs to the unwanted, already-uninstalled program. Do not delete an unfamiliar item before identifying its publisher and path.
If the file is being requested from C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, a temporary folder, or an unrelated program directory, treat that as a warning. It does not prove malware, but it makes provenance more important.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the owning application
This is the most likely fix when an application-local DLL is missing or damaged.
Try Windows app repair
For a supported Windows application:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the application that produces the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Launch the application again.
Repair normally preserves the application and its data. If the error remains, return to the same screen and use Reset only when you understand that it may remove application settings or local data.
Try Control Panel repair
Older desktop programs may not appear with modern repair controls.
- Press
Win+R. - Enter
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the suspected application.
- Choose Repair or Change, if offered.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
If repair is unavailable or does not restore the program, uninstall it and reinstall it from the original installer, legitimate installation media, or a verified publisher support channel. For Avanquest Convert Video, an original installer or old installation media is preferable because a current official package could not be verified.
If the application is no longer wanted, uninstall it instead of restoring avlf.dll. Then remove any remaining startup entry that continues to call its executable.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Older applications are often 32-bit even when they run on 64-bit Windows. A 32-bit program generally needs the DLL supplied with that exact application build. Do not replace it with a catalogued x64 file or a file copied from another version.
To check Windows architecture:
- Open Start > Settings > System > About.
- Find System type.
- Record whether Windows is 64-bit or 32-bit.
This does not identify the architecture of avlf.dll itself. Public catalogues report conflicting and unauthenticated version, size, and architecture data for this filename, so those listings are not a reliable download specification.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Windows Security or another antivirus product may have removed the file.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Expand recent detections.
- Check whether the detection names the affected application, its directory, or
avlf.dll.
Restore a quarantined file only when all of these are true:

- The file was in the application’s expected directory.
- The installer or backup came from a trustworthy source.
- The security alert has been assessed and is not an active malware warning.
If the file was found in a temporary directory, a startup location you do not recognize, or a recently created application folder, do not restore it merely because the filename matches. Reinstall the legitimate application from clean media instead.
If Windows Security continues to detect the file, run a full scan:
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Scan options.
- Select Full scan.
- Choose Scan now.
For a persistent or suspicious infection, select Microsoft Defender Offline scan from the same screen and save your work before restarting. Microsoft describes the offline scan process in its Defender guidance.
Fix 3: Reinstall documented prerequisites
A missing dependency can produce an error that names avlf.dll, even when the named file is present. Reinstall the complete application first, because its installer may include the correct prerequisites.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or a driver simply because a DLL error occurred. No reliable public evidence ties avlf.dll to a particular Visual C++ release, DirectX package, .NET version, game, or driver.
If the application’s documentation or installer specifically identifies a Microsoft Visual C++ requirement:
- Download the required package from Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable page.
- Choose the architecture required by the application.
- Run the installer as an administrator.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
For an older 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows, the x86 runtime may be required even though Windows itself is 64-bit. Use the dependency named by the application, not a guessed package.

Fix 4: Update or reinstall an identified driver
A driver is not a known source of avlf.dll, so use this step only when the complete error identifies a hardware component, capture device, graphics component, or application-specific driver.
Recommended Free Tools
To reinstall a known driver:
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand the category for the affected hardware.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and record the provider and version.
- Select Uninstall Device only when you have the correct replacement driver available.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the driver from the hardware manufacturer or the application’s documented installer.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the work of hunting through hardware entries and comparing driver versions: its free scan identifies outdated drivers, while the full version performs the driver installation. It is optional, and reinstalling the application that owns avlf.dll remains the definitive fix when the error is app-local.
Do not use Device Manager to search randomly for a driver based only on the DLL filename. That can introduce an unrelated fix while leaving the owning program damaged.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They normally do not recreate a third-party application DLL such as Avanquest’s AVLF.dll, so run them when other Windows features are also failing or Windows reports broader corruption.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application.
Run DISM first, followed by SFC. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, restart and run the sequence again. If the application still reports a missing avlf.dll, return to repairing or reinstalling the parent application rather than copying a DLL into a Windows directory.

Verify a surviving copy before using it
If you have a copy from the original installer or a verified backup, restore it only to the application’s original directory. Do not trust the filename by itself.
Microsoft Sysinternals Sigcheck can report file version data, hashes, signatures, and certificate information. After downloading Sigcheck from Microsoft and opening an elevated Command Prompt, run:
sigcheck -a -h -i "C:pathtoavlf.dll"
Review the output for a valid signature, expected path, and provenance tied to the original installer. A missing signature does not automatically prove that the file is malicious, particularly for old software, but an unexpected publisher, path, or hash is a reason not to use it.
What not to do
Do not download a random avlf.dll
DLL download sites may provide the wrong version, wrong architecture, modified files, or bundled malware. Even a clean file may not fix a missing dependency, registry mismatch, damaged installation, or incompatible application build.
The safe sources are the application’s original installer, legitimate installation media, a verified backup, or the publisher’s support channel. There is no verified standalone Microsoft download for avlf.dll.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
Do not place avlf.dll in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Windows normally searches the application directory as part of DLL loading. A system-directory copy can create version conflicts and DLL-preloading risk. Restore an exact, verified file only to the owning application’s original directory.
Do not register it blindly
This command is generally inappropriate:
regsvr32 avlf.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. An ordinary application-private runtime DLL usually does not. The command may return an error stating that the entry point was not found, while leaving the real problem unresolved.

Do not assume the malware report proves anything about your file
A malware-analysis report contains an avlf.dll path inside an old MyCam directory. That shows the filename occurred in one analyzed sample; it does not prove that every MyCam installation includes a malicious file or that every avlf.dll is malware. Judge the exact path, signature, scan results, and installer provenance.
If the problem started after a system change
If the error began immediately after installing software, updating a driver, or making another system change, System Restore may reverse the change.
- Press
Win+R. - Enter
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select a restore point created before the error began.
- Choose Scan for affected programs, if available.
- Review the changes.
- Confirm the restore.
System Restore does not normally remove personal documents, but it can remove applications, drivers, and updates installed after the selected restore point.
When the repair still fails
Collect these details before contacting the application publisher or a technician:
- Complete error text.
- Executable that launches the message.
- Full path Windows requests.
- Windows version and system architecture.
- Whether antivirus quarantined anything.
- Application name, installer source, and version information.
- Sigcheck output for any surviving copy.
- Whether the error occurs at startup or only when launching the application.
The key distinction is whether the application is still wanted. If it is, repair or reinstall it from a trusted source. If it is gone, remove the stale startup reference. In neither case should a random avlf.dll be installed globally.
FAQ
Is avlf.dll a Windows system file?
No verified evidence identifies it as a Windows component, Microsoft runtime, DirectX file, or .NET file. It is best treated as an application-owned DLL until the launching program is identified.
Is avlf.dll from Avanquest Convert Video?
That is the strongest public association, including the historical movie to mobile.exe executable and an Avanquest Convert Video installation path. It is not confirmed by a current Avanquest technical document.
Should I install Visual C++?
Only when the application installer or documentation identifies a required Visual C++ package. The filename alone does not establish which runtime, if any, is needed.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Should I run DISM and SFC?
Run them when Windows itself shows signs of component corruption. They are not the primary fix for a missing third-party application DLL.
Is avlf.dll malware?
The filename alone does not answer that. Check its path, digital signature, provenance, quarantine record, and scan results. An unexpected location deserves investigation, but a malware report containing the same filename is not proof about your copy.
