Spoilers for Avowed’s “Dawntreader” quest. If you want to stop Sargamis without killing him, try the special talk-down dialogue if your character can access it; PC Gamer reports that this can spare him and still award Last Light of Day. After dealing with Sargamis, destroy the statue to prevent the Voice from using it, or preserve it to allow a later ending scene in which Sapadal uses it as a body. Do not offer your own soul: the experiment kills the Envoy and returns you to a previous save.
Should you give Sargamis the relic?
In the Dawnshore side quest Dawntreader, Sargamis reveals that he killed the expedition members to fuel an attempt to bind Eothas to a statue. He asks you to place the Splinter of Eothas in it. Agreeing and operating the lever advances the scene and opens more dialogue; it does not mean you have to sacrifice yourself. Refusing the relic or attacking him can lead straight to combat. Windows Central’s walkthrough also describes a route where you pretend to cooperate, overload three Essence Generators, and destroy the statue, which triggers a fight.
The experiment fails, and Sargamis asks for another soul. Do not volunteer the Envoy’s: that choice results in the Envoy’s death and a game over, then reloads an earlier save. The statue decision comes later, after you resolve the immediate confrontation.
What should you do with Sargamis?
There is no single objectively best outcome. Decide whether your priority is sparing Sargamis, stopping his experiment, or getting the sword; the dialogue needed to talk him down may depend on your character’s background or attributes.

Talk him down if you want him to live
PC Gamer says a background- or Intellect-related option can persuade Sargamis to stop, leaving him alive while still awarding Last Light of Day. The guide does not establish that every build can reach this outcome, so if the option is missing, choose another route rather than assuming it will appear later. PC Gamer’s Dawntreader guide favors this outcome when available; Game8’s excerpt also recommends persuading him to stop, though its corroboration is less complete.
Fight him or let the machine take his soul
Attacking Sargamis leads to a boss encounter. Defeating him lets you loot Last Light of Day. Alternatively, if you continue the relic conversation, you can convince him that Eothas chose him and prompt him to offer his own soul. His experiment still fails, and he does not survive. Windows Central reports that this route also awards the sword.

Should you destroy the statue or give it to the Voice?
After Sargamis is dealt with, commune with the Voice at the nearby adra crystal or pillar. It asks you to leave the statue intact for a future purpose. You can agree or destroy it; the meaningful difference described by the guides is the statue’s later use and the ending animation.

Destroying it is the clear choice if you do not want the statue to become a vessel. Preserving it accepts the Voice’s proposed future use. The guides do not describe a separate immediate reward for either choice.

How do you finish Dawntreader?
- Resolve the confrontation with Sargamis and choose what happens to the statue.
- Return to Paradis and report to Ofryc and Caedmon at the Aedyran Embassy.
- Windows Central reports that quest completion awards XP and Delver’s Caution, a ring listed as providing +1 Dexterity and +15% Parkour Speed.
The ring’s attributes are as listed by Windows Central; the guide does not state a publication date for those item details.
