Avowed launched on February 18, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Battle.net, Steam, cloud, and Game Pass. Xbox announced Battle.net as a PC storefront in November 2024, but did not explain a more specific business reason beyond making the game available where players are. Pre-orders and Premium Edition early access are no longer current offers.
Why is Avowed on Battle.net?
Microsoft and Xbox made Avowed available through Blizzard’s Battle.net PC storefront alongside the Xbox app for Windows and Steam. The November 14, 2024 announcement presented Battle.net as another place for players to get the game; it did not spell out a deeper commercial rationale. Xbox Wire’s announcement was authored by Shyla Schofield, Senior Communications Manager at Obsidian Entertainment.
Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG by Obsidian Entertainment, set in the Living Lands, a region of Eora, the fictional world introduced in Pillars of Eternity. Xbox and Blizzard describe the player as an envoy investigating a plague, with exploration, combat using magic and weapons, companions, and choices that shape the setting. These are publisher descriptions, not an independent assessment of the game.
When did Avowed launch, and are pre-orders still available?
Xbox Wire announced a February 18, 2025 launch date, and the game became available that day. The phrase “pre-orders now live” referred to the November 2024 announcement; it should not be read as a current pre-order offer. The Premium Edition’s early access was also a past offer: up to five days beginning February 13, 2025.

Can I play Avowed on Battle.net with Game Pass?
Xbox said that a Battle.net or Xbox purchase, or membership in PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate, can provide access on Battle.net, Xbox, and the Xbox app for Windows when the Xbox and Battle.net accounts are connected. This is the publisher’s stated cross-platform access arrangement; it does not establish the same terms for Steam.

Xbox’s launch notice says that an Xbox purchase can grant access on Battle.net when the Xbox and Battle.net accounts are connected. The same notice includes Battle.net purchases and PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate memberships in its cross-platform access statement. The specific cross-buy claim does not name Steam, so it should not be extended to Steam purchases.

Which way should you get Avowed?
- Choose Xbox or the Windows Xbox app if you want the stated Xbox Play Anywhere benefits between Xbox and Windows, including shared saves and achievements.
- Choose Battle.net if you want to use Blizzard’s PC storefront; Xbox’s launch notice describes linked-account access across Battle.net, Xbox, and the Xbox app for eligible purchases or memberships.
- Choose Steam if it is your preferred PC storefront, but the cited Xbox cross-buy statement does not establish Steam access from purchases elsewhere.
- Consider Game Pass access if you already have an eligible PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate membership; Xbox included those plans in its linked-account access terms.
