Battlefield 6 is worth considering primarily for its multiplayer. It brings back the large-scale mix of infantry combat, vehicles, classes, and changing objectives that defines the series, and a launch-period PC Gamer review praised its gunplay and vehicle battles. The single-player campaign received a much harsher verdict, while progression, the launch map mix, and Portal discovery also drew criticism. Those judgments reflect an October 2025 review, not a current assessment of every later update.
Is Battlefield 6 worth it?
It depends on which part of the package you want. If your priority is online Battlefield combat—fighting on foot, coordinating with a class, and adapting as vehicles and objectives shape a large map—the multiplayer is the strongest reason to play. PC Gamer’s October 16, 2025 review praised the gunplay, vehicle combat, and larger maps including Mirak Valley and Operation Firestorm. The review described the multiplayer as its most enjoyable FPS experience in years, but that is one reviewer’s judgment, not a measure of player consensus.
The recommendation is less clear if you are buying mainly for the campaign. PC Gamer was distinctly negative about it. The same review criticized slow progression, an uneven launch map pool that swung between broad vehicle-focused battlefields and tighter bottleneck maps, and difficulty discovering Portal experiences through its server-browser tools. These are launch-period criticisms; the review does not establish how later patches or live-service changes affected them.
EA said Battlefield 6 sold more than 7 million copies in its first three days after launch. The publisher also reported more than 172 million online matches and over 15 million hours watched on streaming services during that three-day launch weekend. These are historical figures reported by EA, not current player counts or sales totals.

What does Battlefield 6 include?
EA describes Battlefield 6 as a package with a single-player campaign, multiplayer, and returning Portal creation tools. PlayStation describes Portal as a way to create and share multiplayer experiences, with options including custom modes, UI, and NPC behavior. The game’s core appeal is the contrast between the authored campaign and multiplayer’s large, shifting battles; a buyer should not assume the campaign received the same critical praise as the online modes.
How does multiplayer work?
PlayStation lists Conquest, Breakthrough, Rush, King of the Hill, Domination, and Payload. It says the primary multiplayer modes support up to 64 players. That maximum is not a promise that every mode or match always has 64 participants.

The four core classes have distinct perks and gadgets, giving players different ways to contribute to a team. Combined with infantry and vehicle combat, classes make battlefield roles and coordination part of the match rather than reducing play to individual gunfights. The launch-period PC Gamer review particularly valued the interaction between gunplay, vehicles, and larger maps, while noting that the launch map pool did not consistently offer the same balance from one battlefield to another.
Does Battlefield 6 have a campaign?
Yes. Battlefield 6 includes a single-player campaign as well as online multiplayer. However, the existence of a campaign should not be mistaken for a strong endorsement of it: PC Gamer’s October 2025 review was distinctly negative about the campaign, while its praise centered on multiplayer. That is a reviewer’s assessment from the review period, not a claim that every player will have the same reaction.

Which platforms can play Battlefield 6?
EA announced Battlefield 6 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, the EA app, and the Epic Games Store. It launched on October 10, 2025, with Standard and Phantom editions described in EA’s launch announcement. PlayStation states that the game is not available for PS4, so it is not a cross-generation PlayStation release. Check current platform storefronts for the available editions and prices.
What do you need to play online on PS5?
PlayStation says active PlayStation Plus is required for online multiplayer on PS5. It also notes that an EA account, a platform account, internet access, updates, and possibly additional storage may be required. PlayStation further confirms there is no local or split-screen multiplayer: Battlefield 6 is designed for online play.

How should you weigh the review’s criticisms?
PC Gamer’s review is useful for understanding the strengths and weaknesses observed around launch, but it is not a current patch audit or a firsthand assessment here. Its clearest distinction is that the multiplayer carried the package: gunplay, vehicles, and some broad maps earned praise, while campaign quality, progression speed, the uneven launch map pool, and Portal discovery were weaker points. If those latter issues are decisive for you, look for recent coverage or current player feedback before buying, because the review alone cannot show what has changed since October 2025.
