Choose Josep in Memory of the Deep if you want the reported extra reward: 550 gold and the unique Chanter’s Panpipes, an amulet that summons a phantom in combat. Windows Central also reports that Josep is later found dead after receiving the meteorite; the guide suggests the revenants are to blame, but that cause is not confirmed. Choose the Giftbearer if you would rather send the meteorite away: guides report 550 gold for this turn-in and a later opportunity to find the Statuette of Lament.
What happens with each Meteorite choice?
The choice comes at the end of Memory of the Deep, after you retrieve the Mysterious Meteorite from Lake Lacuna and survive the revenant encounter. The two direct turn-ins reportedly pay the same amount of gold, but their other outcomes differ.
| Choice | Reported immediate result | Reported later result |
|---|---|---|
| Give the Meteorite to Josep | 550 gold and the unique Chanter’s Panpipes, an amulet that summons a phantom in combat. Windows Central and Game8 report these rewards. | Windows Central reports that Josep is later found dead. The guide attributes this apparently to revenants drawn by the stone, but does not establish that as a confirmed cause. |
| Give the Meteorite to the Giftbearer | 550 gold, according to Windows Central and Game8. No unique immediate turn-in item is reported. | The Giftbearer says he will take the stone away to address the wound of the god Odra. Guides describe a later shore scene and report that you can find the Statuette of Lament, a trinket that doubles underwater breathing time. See the Memory of the Deep walkthrough. |
These are outcomes reported by walkthroughs, not independently verified here. For most players, the decision is between Josep’s immediate combat item and the Giftbearer’s route, which removes the meteorite from Josep and is associated with the later underwater-breathing trinket.
Where the choice happens in Memory of the Deep
Windows Central says the quest starts in Emerald Stair when you speak to farmer Josep Abaccio at Coastal Farms. He asks you to investigate why revenants are drawn to a lake. At Lake Lacuna, retrieve the glowing Mysterious Meteorite from an underwater crater obstructed by roots; revenants attack after you surface. You then decide whom to give the stone to. Game8 places the Giftbearer at Fior mes Iverno Docks.

Can you get both Josep’s and the Giftbearer’s rewards?
Some guides describe a memory-exchange workaround intended to collect rewards associated with both characters, but they do not give a consistent sequence. Windows Central says to speak to the Giftbearer before turning in the meteorite, ask for a different deal, offer one of your memories, then give the meteorite to Josep. It says to return to the Giftbearer’s shore later to find the Statuette of Lament.
Game8 describes a different sequence: begin the memory exchange after acquiring the meteorite, defer the choice, give the stone to Josep, then return to the Giftbearer and select dialogue that hands over the meteorite as if it were still in your inventory. Game8 warns the method may be bugged or patched. Treat it as an uncertain, version-sensitive workaround rather than a guaranteed way to collect both rewards; save before attempting it.

What if you keep the Meteorite?
Windows Central reports that leaving the meteorite without completing a turn-in leaves Memory of the Deep incomplete, so you miss the quest’s completion rewards and XP. If you want to finish the quest, choose one of the two recipients.
