AXS is its governance token—not an Axie—and the claim that AXS “increased by 66%” cannot be confirmed without a defined date range and named price source. Axie shares a virtual-pet element with Tamagotchi, but its collectible assets, breeding system, battles, and token economy make it a different kind of experience.
What is Axie Infinity?
Axie Infinity combines digital pet interactions with creature collection, breeding, and battles. Axies are digital game assets in the ecosystem. AXS, or Axie Infinity Shards, is a separate ERC-20 governance token.

The distinction matters: owning or using an Axie is not the same thing as holding AXS, and the token is not a creature or a physical pet. Axie Infinity’s official token page describes AXS as having roles in staking rewards, marketplace payments, the Community Treasury, and ecosystem governance. Those functions do not make AXS a requirement for every way of trying the game.
Is the 66% AXS increase verified?
Not from the available information. The headline figure has no stated start date, end date, or named exchange or market-data provider. A market-history page with daily candles for early October 2026 does not establish that particular percentage or the comparison period it would refer to. Without dated observations from a named source, “up 66%” is not a checkable, durable claim.

There is also no verified basis here for attributing a 66% move to a game update, a governance or community change, tokenomics, or any other catalyst. AXS prices can change quickly; any quoted percentage needs its exact interval and price source.
How do Axie battles work?
Axie Infinity has more than one battle version, so “Axie battle” does not describe a single fixed ruleset. The official Axie Infinity white paper describes Classic as a turn-based card battler in which teams use Axies and cards relate to their body parts. It describes Origins as an evolution of that tactical-card format, with sequential turns and progression involving Runes and Charms. These descriptions do not mean every current mode has identical rules.

Sky Mavis support lists Origins for Android, PC, and MacOS. It also notes availability through the Google Play Store and iOS App Store in select regions, so access can depend on where you are. The three starters are non-NFT Axies; they are not the same as collectible NFT assets.
How does Axie breeding work?
Breeding combines two Axies to produce an offspring that may inherit parts and traits from either parent. The official breeding guide describes each Axie as having six body parts and one of nine classes. Inheritance means a particular result should not be treated as guaranteed from the parents’ appearance alone.

The Sky Mavis breeding guide, updated in March 2024, lists a cost of 0.5 AXS plus a variable amount of SLP, with the SLP amount depending on how many times the parents have been bred. That is the guide’s published figure, not a guarantee of the current in-game fee; breeding costs and game economics can change.

The comparison works for one part of the experience: Sky Mavis’s official history describes on-screen actions such as feeding, petting, and putting Axies to sleep as being “like a Tamagotchi.” In both cases, the player interacts with a virtual creature.

Axie Infinity extends beyond that virtual-pet interaction. It includes collectible digital assets, breeding, tactical battles, and an ecosystem token. The original Tamagotchi product should not be described as having Axie-style blockchain assets or token mechanics. Calling Axie simply “another Tamagotchi” misses the game’s collection, battle, and blockchain dimensions.

What to know before getting started
- Choose the version: Classic and Origins are distinct battle versions, not interchangeable names for one ruleset.
- Check availability: Origins is listed for Android, PC, and MacOS, while mobile-store access may vary by region.
- Separate starters from collectibles: The three Origins starter Axies described by Sky Mavis are free and non-NFT.
- Verify changing costs: The breeding guide’s 0.5 AXS plus variable SLP figure was published in March 2024; check the current in-game terms before breeding.
- Treat token claims carefully: A percentage change in AXS needs a stated measurement window and a named price source to be meaningful.
