If a YouTube stream running on an Azure VM stopped when prepaid credit ran out or expired, first check the Azure subscription status and the credit offer. A disabled subscription can leave the VM deallocated, so its stream cannot continue. If Azure shows the subscription active and the VM running, investigate the VM and streaming setup separately rather than assuming credit expiry is the cause.
1. Check whether Azure disabled the subscription
In the Azure portal, open Subscriptions and inspect the subscription’s status. Review billing notifications as well. Microsoft lists expired credit, reaching a spending limit, an overdue bill, and a payment-card limit or disablement among possible reasons for a subscription to enter the Disabled state. A Disabled subscription cannot create or manage Azure resources; associated VMs are deallocated, temporary IP addresses are freed, and storage becomes read-only. Microsoft’s subscription-state guidance explains the effects and possible recovery paths.
Do not conclude that credit expiry caused the outage just because the timing matches. Confirm the status and the billing notice: several billing or account conditions can disable a subscription.
2. Check the credit balance and expiry date
The exact portal location depends on the billing offer. For a Microsoft Customer Agreement billing account, Microsoft documents this path: Billing > Payment methods > Azure credits. Check the available balance and each credit’s expiry date. The displayed available balance reflects activity through the last invoice; when it reaches zero, eligible usage is charged through the billing account’s payment method. Confirm that your account uses Microsoft Customer Agreement billing before relying on this navigation. See Microsoft’s Azure credit balance instructions.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For another prepaid-credit offer, consult that offer’s terms and the billing pages shown for your account. The available balance, refresh schedule, and recovery options should not be assumed to match the Customer Agreement process.
3. Distinguish an exhausted spending limit from expired credit
These can produce a similar interruption but are not the same billing event. When usage reaches a spending limit, Azure says deployed services are disabled for the remainder of that billing period; Microsoft’s example includes VMs being stopped and deallocated. Some subscriptions with credits spanning multiple months may be re-enabled at the start of the next billing period. Eligible free-account customers may be able to upgrade to pay-as-you-go to remove the spending limit and re-enable the subscription. The available remedy depends on the subscription offer. Read Microsoft’s spending-limit explanation.

Compare the subscription status, remaining credit and expiry date, the billing-period timing, and whether your specific offer replenishes credits. Those details help distinguish a spending-limit shutdown from credit expiration.
If this was an Azure free account
Microsoft’s free-account offer says eligible new users receive $200 in billing-currency credit for the first 30 days. The subscription and services are disabled when that credit runs out or expires at the end of the period. These terms describe that offer, not every Azure prepaid-credit program. Check the terms attached to your own subscription. Microsoft’s Azure account page describes the free-account offer.

4. Resolve billing or cancellation issues before retrying the VM
If the subscription remains disabled after you update payment information, check for an outstanding balance; Microsoft identifies unpaid balances as a possible reason the subscription is still disabled. Microsoft also says virtual or prepaid credit cards are not accepted as Azure subscription payment methods. If you deliberately canceled the subscription, the resulting disablement and deallocation are separate from credit expiry, and reactivation options vary by subscription type and timing. Review Microsoft’s guidance for disabled subscriptions and its cancellation and reactivation information.
5. Confirm the VM starts, then follow its actual error
Once the subscription is active, check the VM’s power state in the portal and try starting it if needed. If it will not start, inspect the Azure Activity Log and deployment operations for the recorded error rather than guessing at a fix. Allocation failures are one documented cause of restart or resize trouble; the specific error determines what to try next. Microsoft’s VM restart and resize troubleshooting guide covers error-based checks.

6. If Azure and the VM are healthy, troubleshoot the stream separately
If the subscription is active and the VM is running, the Azure billing explanation is not enough to identify the remaining fault. Check the guest operating system’s logs, confirm the streaming application is running and configured correctly, verify outbound network connectivity, and inspect YouTube’s stream status and error messages. The cause could be in one of those layers; the Azure billing status alone does not establish which one.
- VM is deallocated or cannot start: resolve the subscription or billing issue first, then use the portal’s recorded start error.
- VM is running but the stream process is stopped: inspect the operating system and streaming application.
- Process is running but YouTube is not receiving the stream: check outbound connectivity and YouTube’s stream status.
