If you mean Inside the Backrooms, the elevator code is a four-digit sequence built from the numbers on columns opposite four marked columns. The hashtag markers numbered 1–4 tell you the order. The digits can change between playthroughs, so use the clues in your own run rather than a code posted by another player. Other Backrooms games have different puzzles, outlined below.
How do I get the elevator code in Inside the Backrooms?
- Inspect the eight columns in the elevator corridor.
- Find the four columns marked with hashtags and note their order numbers, 1 through 4.
- For each numbered hashtag column, read the number on the column directly opposite it.
- Arrange those four numbers in hashtag order: the value opposite marker 1 first, then the values opposite markers 2, 3, and 4.
- Enter the resulting sequence using the elevator’s floor buttons.
This method is described in a Gamer Journalist walkthrough published January 23, 2023. It is a third-party guide, not developer confirmation, and does not specify the game version for which the steps were checked.
What is the four-digit code, and is it different every game?
There is no single dependable code to copy: the guide says the column values are randomized each playthrough. The solving rule stays the same, but the answer should come from the markings in your current game. If the elevator rejects your sequence, check that you matched each hashtag column with the column opposite it and entered the values in marker order.
Where do I find the numbers?
Look along the eight columns in the elevator corridor. Four have hashtag markers numbered 1–4; each of those markers points to the opposite column’s number as one digit of the code. The marker supplies the position in the sequence, while the opposing column supplies the value.

Is this the same puzzle in every Backrooms game?
No. “Backrooms code puzzle” can refer to distinct games and clue systems. Don’t use a four-digit column answer for a color-keypad puzzle, or apply the monitor solution from another game.

What if I meant a different Backrooms game?
Escape the Backrooms: Habitable Zone elevator
This is a color-sequence puzzle, not the four-digit pillar code. Read the car colors in the clue area and reproduce their sequence on the elevator’s color keypad. The cited Playnews guide, published October 30, 2025, warns that the sequence can differ by run; treat its example as run-specific.

Backrooms: Escape Together: Level 4 Abandoned Office
Record each monitor’s color-number pair, then use the Electrical Closet’s color order to rearrange the numbers. Enter that result to open the closet and pull the breaker for the normal route. The unofficial fan guide says the monitor values are randomized and provides v0.13.4 context; it reports checking the route in gameplay on June 30, 2026.
