Balatro’s free 1.1 update did not arrive in 2025. In a September 12, 2025 announcement, developer LocalThunk apologized and replaced the promised 2025 target with an open-ended schedule: the update would come “when it’s done.” The post did not give a new release date or promise a 2026 launch.
When is the Balatro 1.1 update coming out?
There is no release date in LocalThunk’s announcement. The developer wrote: “Balatro 1.1 will still come out, of that I am certain, but the new timeline is going to be it’s done when it’s done.” The statement confirmed the update was still planned, but set no replacement deadline. The official Balatro Steam announcement feed reviewed for this article did not provide a later 1.1 date. That is a limited check of that feed, not proof that no newer statement exists elsewhere; the current release timing remains unresolved based on the official information cited here. Why was the update delayed?
LocalThunk’s September 12 post explained the delay as a decision not to rush development or return to crunch to meet the old target. The developer said Balatro 1.0 launched in February 2024, followed by a major balance patch and work on the mobile version. By the mobile release in late 2024, LocalThunk said they were burned out, took several months off, and then returned gradually, working a few hours a day and not always on 1.1. LocalThunk said the 1.1 update would still arrive and would be free across platforms. The official FAQ lists Balatro for Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X|S.
