It keeps her powerful Fighter features, gives her tools for accuracy and battlefield control, and does not depend on finding a particular weapon.
Why Battle Master suits Lae’zel
Lae’zel is a Githyanki Fighter whose default subclass is Battle Master. Her listed balanced-difficulty starting scores are Strength 17, Dexterity 13, Constitution 15, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 12, and Charisma 8. Those attributes already support a frontline Strength build; Great Weapon Fighting is also among her listed features. See the BG3 Wiki’s Lae’zel page.
Staying Fighter to level 12 is the dependable route: it preserves the class’s level-11 Improved Extra Attack and avoids the trade-offs of a multiclass. Battle Master adds limited-use maneuvers that can improve an important attack or disrupt an enemy, with the dice replenishing on a short or long rest.

Respec option
If you respec Lae’zel, one published Great Weapon Fighting setup uses Strength 16, Dexterity 14, Constitution 16, Intelligence 8, Wisdom 10, and Charisma 10. It shifts points away from Intelligence and toward Constitution and Dexterity while keeping Strength and Constitution as the central priorities. This is a practical example, not a required or uniquely optimal spread; the AlcastHQ 2026 Lae’zel build guide presents it as one recommendation.

Choose Great Weapon Fighting to match the two-handed weapon plan. Keep Strength high for melee attacks and damage, and value Constitution for staying power. Dexterity is a useful secondary consideration; the rest of the spread can reflect your preferences and party needs.
Level-by-level plan
| Fighter level | Choice or feature | How it helps |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Fighter; Great Weapon Fighting | Start with a Strength-focused two-handed weapon setup. |
| 2 | Action Surge | Provides a burst opportunity when a key turn matters. |

| 4 | Great Weapon Master | Favors a damage-centered build. |
| 5 | Extra Attack | Improves the number of attacks available with the Attack action. |
| 6 | Feat | Choose a useful option for your build; the cited recommendations do not prescribe a specific choice here. |
| 7 | Battle Master improvements | Gains a fifth Superiority Die and two additional maneuvers. |
| 8 | Alert or Tough | Choose earlier turn order with Alert, or more durability with Tough. |
| 10 | Battle Master improvements | Superiority Dice become d10s, and Lae’zel learns two more maneuvers. |
| 11 | Improved Extra Attack | Lae’zel can make three attacks per Attack action. |
| 12 | +2 Strength | Supports the core Strength-based attack plan. |
Fighter feat levels are 4, 6, 8, and 12; the table’s level-6 row is left open to fit your priorities rather than inventing a fixed pick. The class progression and level-11 attack feature are listed on the BG3 Wiki Fighter page. The feat recommendations at levels 4, 8, and 12 reflect one suggested build, not a universal ranking; see AlcastHQ.

Battle Master maneuvers to take first
At level 3, Battle Master receives four d8 Superiority Dice and selects three maneuvers. The maneuver save DC is 8 + proficiency modifier + the higher of Lae’zel’s Strength or Dexterity modifier. Spend dice where their extra effect can change the encounter, then recover them with a short or long rest. Details are listed on the BG3 Wiki Battle Master page.
Trip Attack
Use Trip Attack to try to knock an eligible target prone after it fails a Strength save. A prone enemy can create an opening for allied melee attackers, so it is especially useful when the party can capitalize on the control.

Precision Attack
Precision Attack adds a Superiority Die to an attack roll. Save it for a high-value strike that risks missing, rather than spending it automatically on every attack.
Riposte
Riposte can turn an enemy’s miss into a reaction attack. It rewards Lae’zel for being in reach of threatening foes and gives her another way to convert an opponent’s failed attack into pressure.
Rank #4
As she levels, Battle Master learns more maneuvers. Later picks can prioritize protecting allies, repositioning enemies, or adding crowd control; choose based on what your party lacks rather than treating one expanded list as mandatory.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to play the build
- Position before committing. Move Lae’zel into reach of a valuable target and avoid spending her turn on a low-impact attack if a better target or control opportunity is available.
- Use maneuvers with a purpose. Trip a target when allies can exploit it, use Precision Attack when a miss would waste an important strike, and keep Riposte in mind when enemies are likely to attack her.
- Save Action Surge for a consequential turn. It provides a burst of action economy; coordinate it with a priority target or an encounter where ending a threat quickly matters.
- Rest to refresh Battle Master resources. Superiority Dice return on either a short rest or a long rest, so use them rather than hoarding them for an unspecified later fight.
- At level 11, build turns around three attacks. Improved Extra Attack gives three attacks per Attack action, making Lae’zel’s ability to reach a key target especially valuable.
Weapons and gear: useful examples, not requirements
The build works with suitable two-handed weapons you find during the campaign; no named item is required. The Everburn Blade is one possible early example: a guide describes taking it from Commander Zhalk during the prologue. The Silver Sword of the Astral Plane is another possible weapon, but an early acquisition route is an optional, high-execution tactic rather than a guaranteed part of the build. Treat either as an opportunity, not as a condition for making Lae’zel effective. The acquisition examples appear in Switchblade Gaming’s Lae’zel Battle Master guide.

When to adjust the recommendations
- You want more damage: Keep Great Weapon Master at level 4 and prioritize Strength at level 12.
- You want Lae’zel to act sooner: Choose Alert at level 8.
- Surviving focused attacks matters more: Choose Tough instead of Alert at level 8.
- You want a simple, consistent progression: Stay Fighter through level 12 to retain Improved Extra Attack and avoid multiclass trade-offs.
These are preference-sensitive choices rather than a proven universal ranking. The BG3 Wiki home page identified a small hotfix dated 29 September 2026 as its latest update when crawled, while Switchblade Gaming says its guide was verified on Patch 8 in April 2025. The listed build recommendations should not be mistaken for a claim that this exact setup was tested against the September 2026 hotfix. See the BG3 Wiki and Switchblade Gaming guide for those dated details.
