The D&D game announced with Giant Skull is not that successor.
Will Larian make Baldur’s Gate 4?
No. Larian’s April 18, 2024 update said it would not make expansions for Baldur’s Gate 3 or Baldur’s Gate 4, and would not add major new narrative content to the game or its origin characters and companions. Larian’s announcement said the studio had spent six years in the Forgotten Realms and had chosen to develop its own intellectual property instead.
In March 2024, CEO Swen Vincke explained that the decision was about Larian’s direction, not a dispute with Wizards of the Coast: “WOTC is not to blame for us taking a different direction.” He also said, “This is because it’s what’s best for Larian.” Vincke described Baldur’s Gate 3 as “a story with a beginning, middle and an end and it doesn’t need more.” GameSpot reported his clarification.
Is Baldur’s Gate 4 happening?
Wizards of the Coast has expressed an intention to make a successor to Baldur’s Gate 3. In a 2025 interview, company president John Hight said, “And of course, we’re going to do a successor.” He immediately clarified that the announced D&D game from Giant Skull was not it: “This is not the successor to that game.” GamesRadar+ reported Hight’s remarks.

That statement establishes Wizards of the Coast’s intent, not a formally announced Baldur’s Gate 4 with a confirmed developer, production details, or launch window. It does not establish that the next game will use the Baldur’s Gate 4 name.
Who is making the next Baldur’s Gate?
No successor developer has been named in the statements cited here. Wizards of the Coast senior vice president of digital strategy and licensing Eugene Evans said the company would take time to find “the right partner, the right approach, and the right product that could represent the future of Baldur’s Gate.” Wizards of the Coast shared Evans’s statement.

Accordingly, there is no confirmed studio to identify as the developer of Baldur’s Gate 4, and no release date to report. Hight’s successor comment should not be mistaken for an announcement of a specific game or team.
Is Giant Skull making Baldur’s Gate 4?
No. Giant Skull’s announced single-player Dungeons & Dragons action-adventure is a separate project, according to Hight’s clarification. It is not the Baldur’s Gate 3 successor he said Wizards of the Coast intends to make.

What has Larian said about other Baldur’s Gate 3 projects?
In July 2026, Larian’s official account said it was “not involved in any BG3 related projects” while responding to an announcement about a Karlach comic. PC Gamer reported the exchange. That statement concerns projects current at the time; it is not a blanket statement about every possible future arrangement or sequel.
