It gives her durable melee damage, Divine Smite burst, offensive control, and Aura of Protection for nearby allies. The best alternative depends on what your party needs: spell control, Dexterity utility, a one-turn burst, or more support.
Why straight Vengeance Paladin is the default
Vengeance is a strong general-purpose fit when you want Minthara on the frontline pressuring a priority target. Paladin levels provide Divine Smite and weapon-focused features, while her oath also supports aggressive control. At Paladin 6, Aura of Protection adds saving-throw support for nearby allies. This is a role-based recommendation, not a claim based on controlled performance testing.
The reviewed build guide uses Patch 8 and Hotfix 36 as its rules boundary. Larian described Patch 8 as the game’s final major content patch; Hotfix 36 is dated March 26, 2026 and lists version 4.1.1.7209685. Individual build interactions below are guide recommendations, not official Larian build advice. Larian’s Patch 8 announcement and Hotfix 36 notes provide the version context.
Level and feat plan for Vengeance
Important Paladin breakpoints
- Paladin 2: Adds Divine Smite and a Fighting Style.
- Paladin 5: Grants Extra Attack.
- Paladin 6: Grants Aura of Protection.
- Paladin 11: Adds Improved Divine Smite, according to the reviewed guide.
For a level-12 straight Paladin, the guide recommends taking +2 to the primary attack stat at Paladin 4. At Paladin 8, Great Weapon Master is an option if attack bonuses or Advantage help offset its accuracy penalty. If that tradeoff does not suit your build, consider more Charisma or a defensive or reliability feat that addresses a real party need.

Set stats after choosing her weapon
For a great-weapon setup, prioritize Strength. For a finesse setup, prioritize Dexterity instead. Charisma still matters for Paladin features and Aura of Protection, while Constitution supports survival and concentration in melee. These are priorities rather than a fixed stat array: adjust them to the weapon, party, and difficulty you are playing.
Plan turns around competing actions and resources
Vow of Enmity, control spells, and smites can all be valuable, but they compete for actions or resources. A turn spent setting up control is not also a full attack sequence. Use Vow of Enmity to support attacks against the intended target; do not assume it grants a guaranteed advantage effect against every enemy. The guide describes broader self-cast behavior as bugged.

Minthara’s Soul Branding can empower an ally’s next weapon attack. Coordinate it with an ally who can make that attack, rather than spending the bonus action when no suitable follow-up is available. This interaction is described by the secondary build guide and is not independently confirmed here by an official source.
Which Minthara alternative fits your party?
Each alternative trades some Paladin progression for a more specialized role. Hexblade requires a mod; the other routes are class or oath choices described by the reviewed guide.

These splits are guide recommendations, not a universal ranking. Their value depends on party composition, ruleset, and how much you want Minthara to specialize.
Honour Mode and the Deepened Pact interaction
The guide specifically warns that Deepened Pact’s extra attack does not stack with the normal Extra Attack in Honour Mode. It does not say that this restriction invalidates Action Surge. Treat the warning as limited to that extra-attack interaction rather than as a general rule against extra actions or multiclassing. The guide’s stated rules boundary is Patch 8 plus Hotfix 36.

Choose by the job Minthara needs to do
- Need a durable frontline damage dealer? Stay Vengeance Paladin and build around Strength for a great weapon or Dexterity for a finesse weapon.
- Want her attacks and Paladin features centered on Charisma? Consider Hexblade 1 / Vengeance 11 only if you are using a mod that adds Hexblade.
- Need more spell control? Consider Vengeance 6 / Shadow Sorcerer 6, accepting less later Paladin progression and greater resource demands.
- Prefer finesse combat and broader utility? The Paladin 2 / Swords Bard 10 split trades away Aura of Protection.
- Want a burst turn, party protection, or an oath-specific control role? Compare Fighter 2, Crown, and Oathbreaker against the Vengeance build’s direct-damage focus.
Official patch notes establish the game’s update context and identify Minthara as a Paladin, but they do not validate the guide’s full rankings, stat advice, or class-split comparisons. Patch 8 was Larian’s last content patch; the studio said subsequent work would focus on minor bug fixes in its April 15, 2025 announcement. The reviewed guide’s build recommendations are the basis for the comparisons here.
