To complete “Help Omeluum Investigate the Parasite,” collect Tongue of Madness and Timmask Spores, bring them to Omeluum in the Underdark’s Ebonlake Grotto, then obtain the Ring of Mind Shielding after his experiment fails. The Arcane Tower greenhouse is the direct place to find both mushrooms. The experiment does not cure the parasite.
Start the quest at Ebonlake Grotto
- Travel to the Myconid Colony in the Underdark and speak with Blurg and Omeluum.
- Discuss your parasite and agree to Omeluum’s plan to investigate it. This starts the Act One subquest under “Find a Cure.”
Omeluum’s request is for two ingredients: Tongue of Madness and Timmask Spores. The quest log says, “To help us, Omeluum requires a Tongue of Madness mushroom and some Timmask Spores. We can find both at the mysterious tower nearby.” bg3.wiki’s quest entry records the objective and sequence.
Find both mushrooms in the Arcane Tower greenhouse
The most direct route is to collect the ingredients in the Arcane Tower greenhouse in the Underdark. Once you reach the greenhouse, look for Timmask Spores on a northwest shelf and Tongue of Madness in a southeast growing patch, as described by Gamer Guides’ location walkthrough.
Use “greenhouse” as your landmark rather than relying on floor numbers: guides can number the same level differently. The Arcane Tower reference describes restoring power and using the elevator to reach it; flight or the exterior fungus platforms can also get you to the level.

Choose how to get through the tower
Restore power and use the elevator
This is the tower’s normal access route. The approach from the Underdark beach is guarded by Arcane Turrets that track characters they can see. Use cover and move between sightlines; turn-based movement can make it easier to control exposure. Invisibility or Pass Without Trace are other options described in Gamer Guides’ tower approach advice.
Use flight
Flight can bypass the power-restoration route and reach the greenhouse level more directly. The quest reference notes a possible cost: bypassing the tower’s normal route may forfeit 25 XP and Guild Artisan inspiration. Treat this as a potential tradeoff, not a guaranteed outcome for every character or playthrough.

Climb the exterior fungus platforms
Mushrooms on the tower’s south wall form platforms you can use to reach higher levels. This route avoids relying on the elevator, but still requires navigating the tower’s exterior and its hazards.
Skip the tower if you can find the ingredients elsewhere
The quest reference documents two alternatives, though they are less dependable as a complete substitute for visiting the greenhouse:

- Bring both ingredients back to Omeluum at Ebonlake Grotto.
- Let Omeluum prepare the potion and have the intended character drink it. He attempts to extract that character’s tadpole.
- After the attempt fails, follow the conversation about the Ring of Mind Shielding. Obtaining the ring completes the quest.
The in-game quest text says the potion failed and made the parasite stronger. It does not remove the tadpole or cure the infection. The ring is the quest’s follow-up offer; exact dialogue and merchant details can vary by playthrough. See Omeluum’s character entry for the potion outcome and ring context.
