To learn the recipe in Baldur’s Gate 3, manually extract three Hill Giant Fingers in the Alchemy interface. That creates Salts of Hill Giant Fingernails and unlocks the elixir recipe. Then combine the salts with any Suspension to craft an Elixir of Hill Giant Strength.
How to unlock the recipe
- Open the Alchemy interface and choose the option to extract ingredients manually.
- Select Hill Giant Fingers and extract them when you have at least three. The extraction converts the fingers into Salts of Hill Giant Fingernails and teaches the recipe; simply collecting the fingers does not complete this step.

How to craft the elixir
Once unlocked, use the Alchemy crafting list to combine one Salts of Hill Giant Fingernails with one Suspension. Any Suspension works. The ingredient combination is listed in the references for Salts of Hill Giant Fingernails and Ashes.
What the elixir does
Drinking it sets the character’s Strength to 21 until their next Long Rest. It does not stack with another elixir: consuming it replaces the effect of any other active elixir. See the Elixir of Hill Giant Strength reference for the listed effect and duration.

Can you obtain it without crafting?
Yes. The elixir is also listed among the stock of merchants including Auntie Ethel, Araj Oblodra, and Derryth Bonecloak, and at several world locations. Treat these as places to check rather than guaranteed sources: merchant stock and availability can vary with progression and restocking. The reference describes Auntie Ethel as restocking a stack of three per Long Rest or level-up; Derryth’s stock is less reliable. See the merchant and location listings for details.
