To romance Minthara, recruit her in Act Two, raise her approval, then take the camp conversation where she asks to read your character’s mind. Let her do so and choose a romantic response. The Act One Grove-raid scene is separate: you can save the Grove and still pursue the later romance by knocking Minthara out and recruiting her at Moonrise Towers.
How to start Minthara’s romance

Choose how to handle Minthara in Act One
You can side with her assault on the Emerald Grove, or knock her out if you want to save the Grove. Larian’s Patch 5 notes confirm that a knocked-out Minthara can still appear at Moonrise Towers in Act Two. The patch also fixed a bug that could stop her from becoming recruitable there. That confirmation does not guarantee identical results for every knockout method, mod, or save state.

Recruit her at Moonrise Towers
In Act Two, resolve Minthara’s situation at Moonrise so she joins your party. An early conversation may refer to what happened between you in Act One, but that exchange by itself does not start the formal romance.

Raise approval and take the camp conversation
BG3 Wiki’s current Minthara romance guide lists 31 approval as the trigger for the initiating conversation. At the relevant point, speak with her at camp before the next long rest. When she asks to read your character’s mind, allow it and choose a romantic framing—for example, imagine her as a lover and affirm that you want the relationship.

If an earlier response characterized her as an ally, friend, or survivor, the wiki says a later “I want you too” response can still pursue the romance. By contrast, calling her a monster is identified as a choice that permanently closes the route.
The Grove raid and the romance are separate
Siding with Minthara’s raid can lead to a sexual encounter at the Act One celebration. That is not the formal partner track: the later romance begins through camp dialogue after she has been recruited. You do not need the Grove-raid encounter to pursue it. If you want to preserve the Grove, the knockout-and-recruit route is supported by Larian’s Patch 5 recruitment fix.

When the relationship becomes exclusive
Starting the romance is not the same as reaching its partnered state. BG3 Wiki describes two commitment routes: reach 50 approval after initiating the romance, or reach the story lock-in around Ketheric Thorm’s defeat. The story milestone can commit Minthara while another relationship is still in its dating stage. The transition is described as automatic and exclusive, ending other active romances. Consider those consequences before allowing the relationship to lock in; the 31 and 50 approval figures are community-maintained route details, not thresholds announced in Larian’s patch notes.
Continue the romance in Act Three
Larian’s Hotfix 5 announcement confirms that high approval lets the Minthara romance progress in Act Three, with additional dialogue and voiced lines. BG3 Wiki also describes a “Can I kiss you?” option for partnered characters from Act Two onward, with further romance content in Rivington and later in the city.

Choices that can affect the relationship
- Mizora: BG3 Wiki reports that accepting Mizora’s Act Three offer ends the Minthara relationship the following morning.
- The Drow twins: The wiki says Minthara can decline their group offer while in a relationship. This is a specific case, not evidence that every other intimate scene ends the romance.
- Version and mods: Larian called Patch 8 its “final major patch,” but the official game site lists Hotfix 36 dated March 26, 2026. Later hotfixes, mods, or save-state differences can affect behavior, so check the version you are playing if a trigger does not appear.
