It is not an official game feature, and “almost any” is not a guarantee that every character will work reliably through every quest, region, or save.
What More Origins adds
The More Origins mod lets players choose from a roster of NPC Origins; its listing names Raphael, Isobel, Orin, and Scratch as examples. It also describes “Universal NPC Recruitment (Experimental),” which can let custom Origins recruit NPCs and dismiss them to camp. The feature is optional community-created content, not a built-in recruitment system in Baldur’s Gate 3. More Origins on Nexus Mods
The listing showed version 2.4.0.1094, last updated January 12, 2026. Its changelog says version 2.3.0 added a “Grand Parade” option for summoning unlocked Origins and fixed an issue where characters left the party after an act change. Version 2.4.0.1094 lists an improved cross-region travel solution. Those are the mod author’s change notes, not independent confirmation that every recruited NPC will persist or behave correctly.
Can you recruit any NPC in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Not reliably in the sense that every NPC is confirmed to recruit, remain controllable, retain dialogue, and travel safely through the whole game. The mod labels universal recruitment experimental and says “almost any NPC,” so treat it as a broad feature claim with character-by-character uncertainty.

#1 Best Overall
- Online multiplayer for up to four players - allows you to combine your forces in combat, and split your party to follow your own quests and agendas. Concoct the perfect plan together… or introduce an element of chaos when your friends least expect it
- Origin Character - offer a hand-crafted experience, each with their own unique traits, agenda, and outlook on the world. Their stories intersect with the entire narrative, and your choices will determine whether those stories end in redemption, salvation, domination, or many other outcomes
- Evolved turn-based combat - based on the D&D 5e ruleset. Team-based initiative, advantage & disadvantage, and roll modifiers join combat cameras, expanded environmental interactions, and a new fluidity in combat that rewards strategy and foresight
- Define the future of the Forgotten Realms - through your choices, and the roll of the dice. No matter who you play, or what you roll, the world and its inhabitants will react to your story
- Player-initiated turn-based mode - allows you to pause the world around you at any time even outside of combat. Whether you see an opportunity for a tactical advantage before combat begins, want to pull off a heist with pin-point precision, or need to escape a fiendish trap. Split your party, prepare ambushes, sneak in the darkness -- create your own luck!
One search-indexed player account describes recruiting Elegis, a background NPC, with More Origins and Immersive Nudity installed. The player reported that Elegis remained talkative and followed across regions, while other recruited characters went mute or failed to follow. This is a single anecdotal example, not a compatibility test or a prediction of typical results. More Origins listing and linked account
What to check before using the feature
- Read the current listing and changelog. Mod details can change; the version and update date above describe the listing as of January 12, 2026.
- Check requirements for the feature you want. The listing identifies Norbyte’s Baldur’s Gate 3 Script Extender as a requirement for helping set Origins to start at level 1. That does not establish that Script Extender is required for every More Origins feature.
- Verify your specific setup. The available information does not establish a dependable compatibility matrix for platform, game version, save, or mod combination. Do not assume universal compatibility.
- Expect uneven NPC behavior. Recruitment, dialogue, and travel may vary by character; the listed cross-region improvement does not establish that every NPC survives every transition correctly.
What the version history does—and does not—tell you
The 2.3.0 notes describe an act-transition fix, and 2.4.0.1094 describes an improved cross-region travel solution. These changes indicate that party persistence and travel have been areas the author addressed. They do not prove that the experimental feature is now reliable for every recruit, nor do they substitute for checking the mod’s current requirements and your own installation.
