How to toggle story-related Scent trails
Use the game’s Hint button to toggle the story-related trails. The default mapping is R3. If you have changed your controls, use the button currently assigned to Hint.

What changed in update 1.002.001
Insomniac Games’ official update notes, dated October 6, 2026, say the patch adds a new toggle for story-related Scent trails. Insomniac also says: “Alongside previous updates, players now have more control over the visibility of Scents, Audio Cues, and Nightmare Roots based on community feedback.” That broader statement describes controls added across updates; it does not say this new toggle turns off every sensory cue.
How this follows earlier changes
In September 2026, Insomniac said it had reduced the opacity of Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators while evaluating further improvements. GamesRadar’s September 26 coverage reported that earlier options applied to Scent Trails leading to Whisky Bottle collectibles, Nightmare Door Roots, and Material Crate audio clues, while story-critical Senses still appeared. The October 6 update adds a toggle specifically for story-related Scent trails.

The official notes also say the update addresses additional community-reported issues related to crashes and bugs, but do not list individual fixes. They provide no count of fixed issues, so specific fixes cannot be identified from the published notes.
