Then check BG3’s volume and speaker configuration, compare another output device if one is available, and verify the game files. These are troubleshooting steps published by Larian Studios Support—not a guarantee that every no-audio problem has the same cause.
Why is there no sound in Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC?
Sound may be muted for the game in Windows, sent to a different playback device than the one you are listening to, or affected by a mismatch between your configured speaker channels and actual setup. Larian Support also recommends testing another output device, verifying game files, and checking Windows sound settings and drivers. Its audio troubleshooting post is titled for Patch 9 and was last edited December 22, 2022, so treat it as published guidance rather than confirmation that each step has been retested on the latest game patch or Windows release.
Check Windows mute and playback device
- Open the Windows volume mixer and make sure Baldur’s Gate 3 is not muted and its volume is audible.
- Check Windows’ selected playback device and choose the speakers or headphones you are actually using. Larian notes that the selected output can change after a video-driver installation.
Larian’s audio troubleshooting post starts this case with the heading “If there is no sound at all:” (Larian Studios Support).
Check BG3 volume and speaker configuration
Review the game’s audio volume and speaker configuration. Also compare Windows’ configured channel layout with your actual setup. If the channel configuration does not match, certain audio types may be missing: Larian gives 2.1 speakers configured as 5.1 as an example that can make voiced lines inaudible. If the general soundtrack plays but you cannot hear voices, check this mismatch before assuming the dialogue itself is broken.

Test another output device
If you already have another output device available, try it—for example, headphones instead of speakers, or speakers instead of headphones. If audio works through one device but not the other, that comparison can help narrow the problem to the current output setup. This is a diagnostic check; Larian’s recommendation does not mean you need to buy new hardware.
Verify Baldur’s Gate 3 game files
Use the repair or verification option in the client where you installed the game. Larian’s published steps point to these locations; client wording can change over time.

- Steam: Open the game’s Properties and use the Local Files controls to select “Verify Integrity of Game Files…”.
- GOG Galaxy: Select the game, open its settings, and choose “Verify / Repair”.
Larian also includes file verification in its Installation Issues FAQ.
Try Windows sound settings and driver checks
If the earlier checks do not restore audio, Larian suggests trying different Windows sound quality settings and checking for Windows and driver updates. Reinstalling audio drivers is another possible later step. Use the appropriate driver for your audio device or PC from its manufacturer; the cited guidance does not recommend third-party driver utilities.

Contact Larian with useful diagnostic details
If the issue persists, contact Larian Support and include a DxDiag report. In the bug report, describe whether the issue occurs consistently or only sometimes, what you have already tried, what actually happens versus what you expect, and the steps needed to reproduce it. Larian provides instructions for submitting a bug report.
