When did Patch 7 arrive on PC?
Larian Community Manager Salo announced on August 31, 2024: “Just announced at the PAX West Panel, Patch 7 is coming to PC next week!” Larian released it for PC on September 5, 2024. For the September 2024 PC release build, Larian said the download was approximately 11.6 GB and installation required 160 GB of free space. Those are launch-build figures, not specifications for a current update.
What official mod support does Patch 7 add?
Install and manage supported mods in-game
The in-game Mod Manager lets players browse and install mods created and uploaded through Larian’s Toolkit pipeline, then enable or disable installed mods. For multiplayer, Larian says players can manage mods with the aim of ensuring everyone has the same mods installed and enabled.

Create mods with a separate Toolkit
The Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit is a separate, free application available through Steam for Windows PC. It is used to create supported mods; it is not the in-game manager. Larian’s support FAQ says setup requires a mod.io account and a Larian account, as well as 160 GB of available space. The Toolkit is not available on Mac or console. Patch 7’s official tooling supports some scripted mods using Larian’s Osiris scripting language, with script reload, build-error handling, and basic debugging. Larian’s June 2024 update described planned support for additions such as weapons and armor, classes and subclasses, spells, and custom dice skins. That scope does not mean every mod type—or every existing community mod—is supported. Larian’s Community Update #27 explains the planned toolkit scope.
Official mods versus other community mods

Larian has said it will not prohibit modding outside its official pipeline. That does not make externally installed mods officially supported: game updates can break third-party mods, and Larian advises removing mods when troubleshooting a problem. If the issue persists with mods removed, contact Larian Support.
Platform, multiplayer, and cross-save considerations
- Platform access: The Toolkit is for Windows PC. Larian’s official FAQ says it is unavailable on Mac and console. Do not assume a mod is offered on every platform.
- Multiplayer: Coordinate so every player has the same supported mods installed and enabled; mismatched mod setups can interfere with playing together.
- Cross-saves: Larian warned that PC and console saves could be on different game versions during Patch 7’s staggered 2024 rollout, making cross-saves incompatible then. The FAQ advises checking that the mods used by a save are available on the other platform. Platform version status can change, so verify current compatibility rather than treating the 2024 rollout warning as current.
- After updates: A game update may make third-party mods incompatible. Remove mods as an initial troubleshooting step, then contact support if the issue remains without them.
How to use Patch 7’s official mod route
- On PC, open Baldur’s Gate 3 and use its in-game Mod Manager to browse and install a supported mod.
- Use the manager to enable or disable installed mods as needed. For multiplayer, coordinate the enabled mod list with everyone in the session.
- If you want to create a mod, install the separate Toolkit through Steam on Windows PC and complete its setup with mod.io and Larian accounts.
- Before using a modded save across platforms, check that the other platform has the relevant mod and a compatible game version.
Larian’s support FAQ describes the official arrangement as “another way to mod your Baldur’s Gate 3 saves,” with Patch 7 adding an in-game Mod Manager and a Toolkit downloadable on Steam for PC players.
