Some PS5 players received Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 before its general release. On January 28, 2025, Larian Studios acknowledged the early availability and said affected players could return to Patch 7 by deleting and reinstalling the game. The studio did not explain why the update appeared early.
What happened with Patch 8 on PS5?
In its January 28, 2025 Community Update #33, Larian said some PS5 players might have “accidentally stumbled into Patch 8 a little early.” The announcement did not identify a technical or platform-side cause, so the reason for the early availability remains unconfirmed.
The timing overlapped with a separate event: Larian said the Patch 8 stress test was live for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. That announcement was not the game’s general Patch 8 release; Larian announced the full release on April 15, 2025.
How can affected PS5 players return to Patch 7?
Larian’s stated option was to delete and reinstall the game. The studio gave that instruction to players who wanted to roll back after receiving Patch 8 early.

The update does not provide additional rollback steps or explain whether other approaches are available. Follow Larian’s instruction rather than assuming that changing a console setting will restore Patch 7.
What did Patch 8 add?
Larian released Patch 8 on April 15, 2025, calling it the game’s final major patch. Its headline additions were cross-play, Photo Mode, and 12 new subclasses—one for each of the game’s 12 classes. The release announcement also noted other fixes and improvements.

In the announcement, Larian Studios said: “This is it. Our final major game patch for Baldur’s Gate 3.” The studio had previewed the update’s feature scope in its November 2024 Community Update #30.

Larian described the stress-test build as a work in progress and listed issues including Photo Mode visual corruption with Vulkan, some untranslated cross-play settings text, movement input loss after picking up an item in multiplayer, and keyboard hotkeys or controller buttons failing after trading. It also noted mod-related interface problems.

Those reports applied to the stress-test build. They do not establish that the same problems persisted in the final release. Larian’s stress-test notes are in Community Update #33.
