Released April 15, 2025, as version 4.1.1.6758295, it adds cross-play across PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation 5, cross-platform progression, photo mode, and one new subclass for each of the game’s 12 classes. Larian said minor bug-fix updates could still follow.
What Patch 8 adds
Larian describes Patch 8 as the last patch to introduce new content—not a guarantee that the game would receive no more updates. Its headline additions are cross-play, photo mode, and 12 subclasses. The official announcement lists version 4.1.1.6758295 and was published April 15, 2025. Read Larian’s Patch 8 announcement.
Cross-platform progression is included alongside cross-play, letting players continue across the supported platforms. Larian’s announcement does not establish live network-service status or guarantee that every current platform setup will work without issue.
Does Baldur’s Gate 3 have cross-play?
Yes. Patch 8 supports cross-play between PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation 5. To use it, players connect through the Larian Network and create or join a lobby from the game’s Multiplayer menu.

- Online multiplayer for up to four players - allows you to combine your forces in combat, and split your party to follow your own quests and agendas. Concoct the perfect plan together… or introduce an element of chaos when your friends least expect it
- Origin Character - offer a hand-crafted experience, each with their own unique traits, agenda, and outlook on the world. Their stories intersect with the entire narrative, and your choices will determine whether those stories end in redemption, salvation, domination, or many other outcomes
- Evolved turn-based combat - based on the D&D 5e ruleset. Team-based initiative, advantage & disadvantage, and roll modifiers join combat cameras, expanded environmental interactions, and a new fluidity in combat that rewards strategy and foresight
- Define the future of the Forgotten Realms - through your choices, and the roll of the dice. No matter who you play, or what you roll, the world and its inhabitants will react to your story
- Player-initiated turn-based mode - allows you to pause the world around you at any time even outside of combat. Whether you see an opportunity for a tactical advantage before combat begins, want to pull off a heist with pin-point precision, or need to escape a fiendish trap. Split your party, prepare ambushes, sneak in the darkness -- create your own luck!
- Open Multiplayer from the game menu.
- Select the Cross-Play tab.
- Create a lobby or join a friend’s lobby through the Larian Network.
Can you use mods with cross-play?
Yes, if everyone in the lobby has matching mod versions. If the game detects a mismatch, its Mod Verification window can identify changes needed to align with the host’s setup, including installing, upgrading, downgrading, or removing mods. Larian’s announcement says third-party mods cannot be used on consoles and sets a 100-mod limit on consoles. These are the conditions Larian documented with Patch 8; they do not confirm present-day compatibility for every mod or platform configuration.
What are the 12 new subclasses?
Patch 8 adds one subclass for each existing class:
- Bard
- Barbarian
- Cleric
- Druid
- Paladin
- Fighter
- Monk
- Ranger
- Rogue
- Sorcerer
- Warlock
- Wizard
Larian’s preview says the subclasses bring additions such as abilities, animations, visual effects, summons, cantrips, and, for some, subclass-specific dialogue or role-playing reactivity. Those features vary by subclass; the announcement does not say every subclass includes each kind of addition. See Larian’s Patch 8 feature preview.

How photo mode works
Photo mode lets players pose and position characters, adjust the camera, and change settings including field of view, exposure, depth of field, and focus. Larian says the available controls vary by context: adventuring, combat, dialogue, and cinematic scenes do not all offer the same freedom.
- PC: Press F9 to open photo mode.
- Console: Press both analog sticks.
Why Patch 8 is the final major update—not the final fix
Larian called Patch 8 its final major game patch and said it would be the last to introduce new content, while allowing for minor bug fixes. That distinction proved relevant after release: on May 20, 2025, Larian’s Community Update #34 announced Hotfix #32, version 4.1.1.6848561, and discussed continued cross-play fixes.
