Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch 8 rolled out on April 15, 2025, bringing cross-play, Photo Mode and 12 new subclasses. Larian Studios called it the game’s “final major game patch”—but that did not mean support stopped immediately: the studio continued releasing hotfixes afterward.
What did Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 add?
Patch 8’s headline features were multiplayer cross-play, Photo Mode and one new subclass for each of the game’s 12 classes. The update also added split-screen play on Xbox Series S, updated the Modding Toolkit, and included bug fixes and other improvements. Larian announced the release for PC, Mac, PlayStation 5 and Xbox on April 15, 2025.

Larian’s January preview described the structure of the subclass addition; its April release announcement confirmed the update’s headline features. Larian’s official news index records the studio’s Patch 8 announcements and subsequent updates.
How does cross-play work?
Players on PC, Mac, Xbox and PlayStation 5 can play together, with cross-platform progression available through the Larian Network. To use the feature, connect your platform account to a Larian account and enable cross-play in the game’s options. Larian describes the feature as allowing players across those platforms to enjoy multiplayer together and progress across platforms.

Modded games have an important compatibility condition: everyone joining a lobby needs the same mod versions. The Mod Verification window can prompt players to enable, upgrade, downgrade or install mods to match. Larian says console players are limited to 100 mods and cannot use third-party mods, so cross-play does not make every mod available on every platform.
What can you do in Photo Mode?
Photo Mode lets players adjust party positioning and expressions, as well as camera, lens and scene settings. It can be used during combat, too. During dialogue and cinematic scenes, party positioning and camera angle are locked, although post-processing options such as colour grading, frames and stickers remain available.
After taking a screenshot, look in the platform’s media gallery on Xbox or PlayStation. On PC, images go to the Baldur’s Gate 3 Screenshots folder in Documents; on Mac, they go to the equivalent folder in Pictures.

Larian called Patch 8 its “final major game patch,” and said: “Outside of minor bug fixing, Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content.” That wording matters: it marked the end of planned major content updates, not an immediate end to fixes. The studio’s news index lists later hotfixes, including Hotfix #32 on May 20, 2025.

The key dates are straightforward: Larian previewed the stress test and update plan on January 16, 2025, then announced Patch 8’s rollout on April 15. Subsequent hotfix posts show that smaller fixes continued into May.
