Larian called it the game’s final major patch and its last patch to add new content, while leaving room for minor bug-fixing updates.
What’s new in Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8?
The release adds three headline features—cross-play, Photo Mode, and 12 subclasses—alongside Steam Trading Cards and other gameplay and mod-related changes. Larian’s Patch 8 announcement describes the update and confirms its April 15, 2025 release.
- Cross-play: Multiplayer parties can include players on PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation 5 through the Larian Network.
- Photo Mode: Players can pose party members and adjust the camera and scene during play, with some controls restricted in dialogue and cinematics.
- New subclasses: Each of the game’s 12 classes receives a subclass.
- Steam Trading Cards: Collect cards to craft badges and unlock Steam profile backgrounds and emoticons.
Does Patch 8 add cross-play?
Yes. Players on PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation 5 can play together through the Larian Network. You can join or create a cross-play lobby.
What happens when a lobby uses mods?
Players joining a modded lobby need matching mod versions. The game’s Mod Verification window can identify mods to install, update, downgrade, or remove so the versions match. Console players have a 100-mod capacity, and third-party mods are not available on consoles, according to Larian’s launch announcement.

- Define the future of the Forgotten Realms - through your choices, and the roll of the dice. No matter who you play, or what you roll, the world and its inhabitants will react to your story
- Player-initiated turn-based mode - allows you to pause the world around you at any time even outside of combat. Whether you see an opportunity for a tactical advantage before combat begins, want to pull off a heist with pin-point precision, or need to escape a fiendish trap. Split your party, prepare ambushes, sneak in the darkness -- create your own luck!
How do you use Photo Mode?
Open Photo Mode with F9 on PC or by pressing both analog sticks on console. You can also select the HUD icon near the minimap. During adventuring, including combat, the mode lets you reposition and pose party members and adjust camera, lens, and scene settings.
What can you change in dialogue and cinematics?
In dialogue and cinematic scenes, you cannot reposition characters or change the camera angle. Post-processing, colour grading, frames, and stickers remain available.

Is Patch 8 the last Baldur’s Gate 3 update?
It is the final major game patch and the last patch Larian says will introduce new content—not necessarily the last maintenance update. In the April 15, 2025 announcement, Larian Studios community manager Salo wrote: “Outside of minor bug fixing, Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content.” The studio’s wording leaves room for minor fixes; it does not promise that all future maintenance has stopped.
